You have a good idea though - that pic is just ripe for the photoshopping. So many possibilities!

FuTWT - Get to it. Nothing to distract from nuclear threat than old-fashioned mockery. :)

All you sick people who want this war are going to be disappointed. India has already proposed a joint patrol of Kashmir and Pakistan will leap for the offer because they'll get beat silly if they refuse.

Except for the fact that Pakistan already turned the offer down. Like yesterday. Try to keep up.

2002-06-06 05:17:25 AM
Ouch-

Read the article. It specifically states that Pakistan rebuffed India's offer of joint border patrol.

Cripes, don't ppl read the articles anymore before commenting?

You're the voice of reason. Crude but how true... BTW, I like your nickname (do you still surrender? ;)

I also think Minos hit the nail on the head with the military aspect of it

Pakistan wants the line of control to be internationally administered -- which India turned down. India doesn't want that because then it can't openly bully Pakistan.

2002-06-06 05:19:49 AM
Ouch-
"In the latest diplomatic rebuff, Pakistan rejected an Indian offer to establish a joint border monitoring force to help halt incursions by Islamic militants into Indian-controlled Kashmir."

Thanks, Pseudo. And yes, I still surrender. Hehe.

Except for the fact that Pakistan already turned the offer down. Like yesterday. Try to keep up.

What was the reason?

A quote from the 'What do you think' section of the Onion.

"India and Pakistan may be the next nations to use nukes in war, but no one had better forget who was first. USA! USA! USA!"

Damn straight. Lets keep the pride alive.

Or even a good ol caption ;)

"The Coalition for the Disinfection of the Ganghes river meets at the Capital to promote 'airborne uranium cleansing.' Said this enthusiastic man 'I simply can't wait to swim in the bacteria-free, soon-to-be-glowing holiest of rivers. I mean lets face it, all the E. Coli sorta cuts short those bathing ceremonies.'
More on pro-military environmentalism at 11."

Ouch--apparently you are privy to information the rest of us don't have.

Nice try to sound smart. Loser.

And who exactly said they wanted this war? I re-read the thread and found nothing. Wow. Impressive intellect.

I dunno...if these two countries goto war there might be a war state side as well.....All those 7-Eleven employees going at it against each other and Stop and Go employees. Where will america go for greasy hot dogs, Slurpees, and Ultra Extreme Mega Large Big Gulps?

2002-06-06 05:22:57 AM
Like I said, because Pakistan wants international intervention. The US and UK have already offerred as much, with Pakistan's blessing -- but India doesn't want to be monitored because of the small matter of its own human rights abuses in the region. This situation is farked up along six dimensions.

I don't think anyone knows the answers to your questions. Some people may have guesses, but that's about it.

Christopher_Walken: Frightening prospect!

Perhaps we should send our convenience store employees over there as part of a joint diplomatic comittee to encourage international cooperation. Perhaps they can convince the Indians and Pakistanis that the way to true salvation is being a part of the 7-11 team (tm) and singing the praises of cheap, stale foodstuffs. In America, Indians and Pakistanis can work together in harmony to encourage the corpulence of the populace, thus weakening that irritating artifice of international military might - the US of A.
Yay!!! Slurpees want to be free!

Get off your pedestal you arrogant smartass.

Sounds like you actually think this war is going to take place. Do you really think they're that stupid?

And it's ironic how you actually think you have anything to offer beside condescending remarks. You just add to the melodramatic tone of this conflict that's been going on for years. Crying about the injustice of the world when you really couldn't care less.

LOL

It saddens me to have to post this, but:

Given the issue and the history of the two countries directly involved, I guess war is inevitable. Given the respective conventional strength of both armies, Pakistan would be insane to attack first and they don't stand a chance without resorting to nukes when attacked.

2002-06-06 05:54:07 AM
I came to fark because I can't sleep tonight.

This isn't going to help.

*raises hand and waves fist in the general direction of pakistan/india*

2002-06-06 05:57:33 AM
United Nations, May 30 (PTI) Pakistan has threatened to use nuclear weapons even if India stuck to conventional arms in any conflict, asserting that it has never subscribed to "no-first-use" of atomic weapons and that ruling out their use would give New Delhi a "license to kill."

"India should not have the license to kill with conventional weapons while Pakistan's hands are tied regarding other means to defend itself," said its new ambassador to the United Nations Munir Akram.

I don't _want_ them to go off and have a little nuke war.. BUT I think its the only way for them to get over it. hear me out, they both hate each other so much that no amount of talking is going to change that. they need to nuke each other a few times untill the people that are left are sick of the fighting and the killing. and it will give the world a good look at what a real nuke war would be like. Lessons learned all around.

Oh yeah and the programming jobs that it would open up isn't that bad either.

I wouldn't give a shiat about those retarded, filthy, overpopulated and undereducated nations exterminating themselves in a war - if only they didn't have nuclear weapons. that really scares the shiat out of me...

C'mon Pakistan, drop the bomb on Delhi! I need my old job back!

Signed,
Disgruntled, out-of-work web designer cuz his company moved all their work to India.

The only reason the western world has a high standard of living is that the "retarded, filthy, overpopulated and undereducated nations" have the factories and labor force that slaves away to make our luxury items. When slavery was abolished we had to look somewhere for cheap trinkets.

2002-06-06 07:04:51 AM

The shameful bit is that with some investment almost all factory tasks can be near completely automated... however 3rd world labour is currently cheaper. Although that might change if you've got to kit your workforce in radiation suits to get a decent days work done.

You've got to love long term racial emnity. Does anyone know what actually started the India/Pakistan hatred?

Named: I take offense to that. While we do arguably exploit the resources of less developed nations and definitely build factories there because land and labor is cheap, we also end up increasing the total wealth in areas that we have our factories in. Also the reason the west is wealthy is that it is an advanced society that has an abundance of land and capital in comparison to human labor, and the technology to make more efficient use of those resources. Yes we do move industry offshore because it is cheaper, but those same industries provide jobs and wealth that those poorer countries would not have otherwise. And while $0.50 or so a day might not be anywhere near American standards, that can be a living wage in a lot of less developed countries. Indeed, increasing wages to American levels would likely do more harm than good, as it would cause inflation that would hurt everybody that does not have a factory job.

And please, i know what I just said was an open invitation for it, but lets not have a 200+ post economics/social policy flame war. I couldn't deal with it today.

A war over land and religion.

People will never stop warring over the stupidest crap.

Protest signs are almost always in English (even badly translated English) because they know who their largest audience is. It's just good marketing!

2002-06-06 07:37:02 AM
Eekmale: It also has to dp with the fact that quite a few Indians speak English after that whole colonial period thingy.

2002-06-06 07:38:36 AM
...and it's obvious that I still have trouble with the language! dp=do
