This is about golf?

2006-04-09 03:12:11 PM
Why didn't they call it "Official 2006 Watching Paint Dry discussion thread?"

2006-04-09 03:13:00 PM
Thank you, Masters, for pre-empting the 6pm newscast. I can get time for my bigger projects til the measly newscast at 11. Thanks!

Or the "Lets wait for twobux to make a dumbass comment" thread.

Don't like it, don't watch it, don't post about it.

I am not even at home to be able to watch it, though I don't think anything could beat last years final round. That was just too amazing.

2006-04-09 03:24:09 PM
This isn't a 'let's bash golf' thread. If you aren't interested, don't post. Quite frankly, it is that simple. Thanks!

Hahaha! This just bears repeating already! If only voting were enabled.

That was directed at twobux and Ceph there, Cougar...

I guess I left off the "If you" part

If you don't like it, don't watch it, don't post about it.

There...all better

2006-04-09 03:32:53 PM
Huh. I'm cheering for Miguel Angel Jimenez, just because his look could only be improved by a green jacket.

Oh I know! That's what made it so great.

Go Freddie! Best swing in golf.

Golf is the only "sport" where the highlights shown are when the ball gets really close to going in.

In basketball, you never see highlights on the news of a shot made from full court that gets really close to going in, but in golf, WOW! LOOKITTHAT! EXCITEMENT! LOOK HOW NEAR THE BALL IS TO THE HOLE! That's golf for you.

Golf is a wee bit more difficult than basketball. If I took 50 full court shots, I would hit at least one. If I took 50 shots off the tee, I would not hit a hole in one. I probably wouldn't get a hole in one in 500 shots, or 5000.

Xyling

That's probably because any drunk idiot in the stands at a basketball game can throw a ball 80 feet and get it close every now and then, whereas it actually takes skill to hit a 1.5" ball farther than the length of a football field and get it to stop in the vicinity of a 4.25" hole. Some people actually appreciate how difficult that is.

I hope that old codger Fred Couples wins, that'd be great

The NaSkAr: I hope that old codger Fred Couples wins, that'd be great

He's also a Cougar.

Exactly...the skill required to do that totally boring and unremarkable event of "getting it close to the hole" is immense.

Normally, most people who make comments like that have never played and don't have any idea how hard it is, and can't appreciate how the guys on tour make it look as easy as they do.

I started playing a couple of years ago. Prior to playing golf, watching golf was boring as hell. "Like watching flies fark. I get more excited picking out socks" as George Carlin put it.

Now that I've played, I appreciate how difficult the game is. I get fist-pumping excited when I make par, and the courses I play aren't nearly as challenging as the ones these dudes play. So I get it.

You have to admit, though, that the hushed tones of the announcers, the interminable practice swings, lining up of putts, and walking around can be a little slow-moving. Even baseball moves faster.

Prediction: Playoff

Maybe more than 2. Gonna be a hellacious back 9.

2006-04-09 04:38:05 PM
Wow, did you see that guy hit that ball and have it go over there? Awesome!!

2006-04-09 04:58:50 PM
Get in the hole!

2006-04-09 05:03:17 PM
Chad Campbell is a local boy. Hope to see him pull this off.

2006-04-09 05:05:52 PM
Have they done the old Augusta tradition of the "lynching of the waitstaff" yet?

2006-04-09 05:09:21 PM
Wow, did you see that guy get beat violently and repeatedly in the face with a 9-iron? Awesome!!

2006-04-09 05:12:35 PM
Ive decided it's only a sport if there's pain involved, and not just if you make a mistake.

/I do enjoy golf

2006-04-09 05:13:05 PM
Wow, did you see that guy on a horse split that yawning spectator in half with an iron sabre, spilling his entrails onto the fairway while everyone stands there politely clapping as though nothing had ever happened like programmed, hypnotized SHEEP?! AWESOME!!

2006-04-09 05:17:52 PM
Wow, did you...wtf, iron sabre?? Man, thats so lame, like the could REALLY happen at a golf tournament. They don't even allow horses on the course, dude. OR sabres, probably, either.

What a dumbass

Koil: What a dumbass

Dude. It's Augusta. Crazy shiat happens there we just can't yet explain with our current technology.

2006-04-09 05:26:13 PM
Thats true...like this one time, Tiger Woods gave me the finger and then did that Michael Jackson move where he swings his knee and grabs his crotch.

Even yelled "shamawn"

Nutty

I meant Augusta GEORGIA.

come on Freddie!

Looks like Lefty might have his second jacket. 4 up with 3 holes to play.

He has the look; loose, light, and ready for another jacket.

2006-04-09 07:00:04 PM
All I know about golf is that Tiger's gonna win again... just like he does every year... because he's the best golfer ever.

yay, the fat ass won again

Not this year. The green jacket belongs to Phil!

/Way to go, Lefty

Tough time for Mike Weir, was hoping it would be his time again. Those greens were absolutely brutal! At least both him and Stephen Ames put up respectable placements for the Canuck division this year :)

Golf, its better than nascar

/ooh left turn.

2006-04-09 08:24:33 PM
Watching Rocco Mediate get a 10 on a par 3 was one of the great moments of this weekend.

2006-04-09 09:00:04 PM
Congrats to Phil. Couldn't have happened to a better made-for-TV-and-endorsements family.

2006-04-09 09:56:08 PM
Why is it called "par" when even the pro's can get it sometimes?

2006-04-10 02:21:45 AM
Hey INeedAName, die in a fire.
