can we just line up all these morons and shoot them in the back of the head KGB style? I just really can not fathom in the deepest reaches of my mind how someone could possibly be that thick headed and stupid. My god people the evidence is so blinding you have to run and hide from it not to see it! SCIENCE IS FACT! NOT SPECULATION!

You god is enslaving you. Withholding the truth from you and filling your minds with lies. You will sacrifice your only time on earth and that sick bastard will eat your soul when you die. Please if not for me for your self, stop believing the lies! OPEN YOUR MIND!

Let's see cytosine, guanine, adanine and thymine, or C, G, A and T. C always pairs with G and T always with A. So there's not exactly much in the way of combinations and so not much in the way of complexity. The length of a sequence is immaterial to the complexity argument. Why is it so many people can't grasp that?

The problem is when a lot of scientists have a lot of time and or money invested in a theory, they crap on alternative theories, and support theories that agree with theirs.

Scientists ignore data all the time, they call it normalizing.

First off, you're confusing theories and hypotheses. Second of all, yes, like all professions, science has it's share of unscrupulous people, which is why we have the peer-review process, and why, before findings are accepted, the studies are independantly repeated.

The fact is science is very, very often right. No other method of information gathering has ever come close to the success rate of science, which is why every working piece of medicine and technology that you use today exists.

Diogenes: 5uperman: Why would you intentionally take your kids to places/events where you know you stand a good chance of being insulted or offended? And then disrupt it instead of leaving quietly? As you would when you inadvertantly take your kids to a movie you didn't know would have content you don't want to expose them to.

Do you got to tittie bars just so you can cover your eyes and yell, "This is sinful!"

Don't wear your faith on your sleeve, and you might find that people respect it and you more.

I agree she shouldn't have yelled out as she left, unless someone in the crowd provoked her. She should have just left.

However, your assumption that anyone would know that Bill Nye the Science guy would tell them they should not take their beliefs literally is ludacris!

How many episodes of his kids show did Dr. Bill tell the kiddies that the Bible was full of lies? I'm going to go with ZERO. This family obviously expected a live version of the television show and instead got a lecture accusing them of ignorant backwardness.

That's not what America is about. If she wants to believe in the literal word, she can. I can't believe the hypocrisy here! You are advocating parental censorship!

Remember your stance here the next time someone wants to picket a funeral. Asscake.

The old testament was written after centuries of oral tradition. Even if they were inspired by the word of god, they had to be passed down for generations before they were written down. Has anyone played the telephone game? no telling what the original stories were.

the stories are mostly agrigorical in nature.

I've looked, but the only ones I have found are the ones you have to pay for and are mostly the older series back in the 1950's. The site I am talking about had a collection of about 15 or 20 and were mostly outtakes or the "best of" moments.

I am going to have to leave work early because I am crying hysterically over the "sucking from straws" memories. That was great...."now, the longer the straw is, the harder it becomes to suck anything from it!"

Ironically, I've always seen the fundamentalists as the real blasphemers. You've got the world as it is, and then you've got this book written by man that claims what the world is. And then you've got these fundamentalists denying mountains of evidence and logic for the way the world is and screaming that this man-made tome is the way things work.

Naturally, the argument is that the Bible was originally God's word, but there's no evidence of that, and even if it was, after being copied and recopied under the direction of king's, emperor's and monks with their own agendas, how do we know how much has been changed?

Did anyone hear how Bill charted a Russian Sub to help launch a prototype solar-sail satellite into orbit? That man has some pull. Too bad the lost track of the thing.

Just sayin, that wasn't *just* Bill Nye... That was The Planetary Society.

Some of my annual dues helped pay for that, and hopefully we'll be trying again with a better launch platform soon.

I just read TFA. So according to the Waco Tribune, it is "provocative" to suggest that the Moon, in fact, does not shine and instead just reflects sunlight? Jesus tapdancing Christ. How can people possible be this stupid? Mere ignorance I could perhaps understand, but this is nothing short of mind-numbing, glassy-eyed, slobbering stupidity. It amazes me that people like this are actually able to get out of bed and get to work in the morning without being killed in some form or fashion on the way.

Einstein was not ignoring observed data, he simply didn't believe that an untested prediction of his theory could be true, that's sort of a big difference. And in the past he reversed course when proven wrong, read up on the cosmological constant. Same thing with scientists "pooh poohing" various forms of tribal medicine. As for NeWton I don't really know much about how he derived his various theories.

Why don't any of the people who try to take everything the bible says literally ever remember the verse that says, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." - 2nd Peter 3:8

I'm not the biggest bible reader or the most devout Christian, but to me that passage says plainly that each day told about in Genesis was not necessarily a 24 hour period. (you nimrods!)

Evolution and Creation can co-exist. The bible never describes exactly how God created man. Except to mention that He created man out of the dust of the earth. (or clay or whatever) It doesn't go through and explain the whole process. Sure, man was created from the dust of the earth. Most likely in the form of some ameoba in a primordial ooze that eventually evolved into something else and so on and so on. Who is to say that God did not have a hand in that process? Who is to say that science didn't just uncover a vague understanding of the methods that God used to create man?

And... now this might just be due to a bad translation somewhere... but why did God say, "let us create man in our image?" How many of Him are there? Who is He talking to? If the wackos are going to take some parts literally then they'd have to take that literally too.

And why are the bible thumpers so concerned about a bare breast when God created man and wife naked and it was only after the snake made them aware of the fact that they were naked that they were ashamed of it and covered up. It's obvious that God does not want us to be ashamed of our natural state. He gets so pissed that he curses the snake to be lower than all other animals and crawl on it's belly and makes childbearing painful for the woman and all that. It's pretty obvious that God doesn't have a problem with nudity. "And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed." - Genesis 2:25

There's not much difference between the Christian religious zealots who misinterpret their Word and the Muslim religious zealots who misinterpret their Word.

Vancouver farker here (well, now in Jersey) ... I LOVED Almost Live!. I used to watch it as a prelude to SNL before it came on. I even got some of the regional jokes because you could substitute Kent for Surrey (or whatever the redneck town was), or the yuppy town for West Vancouver. I loved it when they had the two Canadian dudes steal some NCAA trophy from WA University... they had them wearing hockey jerseys, wearing mullets and saying Eh at the end of every sentence. Other skits I liked: Speedwalker, Billy Kwon, The Lame List. Ah those were the days ;)

ARGGGG I cant stand it anymore!
Stop being threatened by truth, admit you were duped for 2000 years and lets all progress to a better world! Stop decieving children with bullshiat when they ask questions! WE ARE NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE, stupid arrogant Fundies! We are not special! Face the TRUTH! Science is not a conspiracy against religion, RELIGION was devised by TYRANTS to control IDIOTS! How dare you let your hero-tales be usurped by corrupt organizations! Stop letting fear rule your minds!
If the Devil were real, btw, dont you think he would devise something like organized religion to enslave your soul with BS? What better way to undermine humanity than to control them with a book that is supposed to be an infallible truth? All logic is useless against such deception!

My feeling is that the meaning you can derive from that passage is that God is not bound by time. God would see the past, present, and future as a whole.

But even given that, it could be construed to imply that literal demarcations of time in scripture are "iffy".
