why unlikely? not sad?

2006-04-05 10:33:52 PM
I won't be making it my ringtone.

2006-04-05 10:34:21 PM
I don't get the tag.

It's all heroic and shiat, so why not release it?

2006-04-05 10:36:57 PM
At last, we will hear their secret conversation with Dick Cheney!

MorningBreath: I won't be making it my ringtone.

Norad: It's all heroic and shiat, so why not release it?

I agree. What's the big deal?

GaryPDX: Flight 93...Beemer and Glick and everyone on that plane are my heroes.

Er... well, you know that one won't be released.

"Er... there's two F-15s coming up behind us. I hope this is our escort home. Wait. What's that funny tone? I'm not microwaving a burrito..."

2006-04-05 10:40:55 PM
Meh - the reports say it's all muffled struggling with a few words of dirkadirkadirka thrown in.

2006-04-05 10:41:00 PM
the governments reason for wanting to keep the tape and transcript sealed from general release was "to protect the National Traffic Safety Board against premature public speculation regarding the cause of any airline crash so it may 'conduct a full and fair investigation.'"

Well, now, that's just stupid.

[And is the investigation into the 9/11 flights even still open?!]

2006-04-05 10:41:06 PM
"Stewardess, I'll have the fish."

Anyone?

It's sure to be the highly edited version.

Fnord: [And is the investigation into the 9/11 flights even still open?!]

was it ever really open? this administration is not exacly known for its open and forthrightness.

/shrugs.

It is illegal for the NTSB to release the actual recordings to the public. Says so in their by-laws. The transcript on the other hand, is required to be released, as a result of those same rules. All investigations are to be open to the public.

2006-04-05 10:44:38 PM
Brinkema said the governments reason for wanting to keep the tape and transcript sealed from general release was to protect the National Traffic Safety Board against premature public speculation regarding the cause of any airline crash so it may conduct a full and fair investigation.'

It's 2006. Does this reason make any sense?

2006-04-05 10:45:31 PM
Arrr Fnord mentioned it first. fnord

2006-04-05 10:46:28 PM
I would have to agree with the transcripts being released but the actual recordings being released goes a little to far, in my opinion.

2006-04-05 10:47:47 PM
Do we also get to hear from the fighter pilots who were sent up in planes with no ammunition?

2006-04-05 10:48:25 PM
Personally, I don't want to know what's on those tapes.

Evil Twin Skippy: Do we also get to hear from the fighter pilots who were sent up in planes with no ammunition?

Do you have a link on that? I am not doubting you at all, I just had never heard of it.

2006-04-05 10:50:23 PM
I'd listen to them.

2006-04-05 10:50:56 PM
Chariset: Personally, I don't want to know what's on those tapes.

Information is knowledge, knowledge is power. It is a very sad thing, but the more we know, the better off we are.

2006-04-05 10:53:32 PM
I'm glad they're being released, but personally I'd rather not know.

2006-04-05 10:54:13 PM
GaryPDX: This small group of Americans were the first to fight. They are all historically hallowed.

Dude... you can keep saying it, but if you remember the news radio and TV reports of the day, it is pretty obvious that we shot that thing down. I have no problem with that. It had to be done, and those involved have to answer to their maker, not to me... but seriously, turning it into a "Let's Roll" heroic moment is truly sickening.

2006-04-05 10:55:04 PM
Edsel: I'm glad they're being released, but personally I'd rather not know.

Sir, I hope you do not choose to vote.

2006-04-05 10:56:09 PM
SilentStrider: was it ever really open?

Almost certainly. They're fairly good about investigating everything, even if it seems obvious. I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed open a long time, but 5 years seems unusual.

[I'm not pursuing a conspiracy angle, just that I think the government is making stupid arguments to "protect" the families.]

haws83: It is illegal for the NTSB to release the actual recordings to the public.

Yes (I think), but they're not submittign evidence to a fedel court case.

2006-04-05 10:57:34 PM
Ah, now we get to hear the struggle between Bigfoot, the Mossad operatives, members of the Illuminati, top members of the Bush administration, and the rest of the people involved in the conspiracy.

2006-04-05 10:58:11 PM
Calvin Hobbes: but if you remember the news radio and TV reports of the day,

...you'd remember that it was a Cessna that crashed into the WTC, that there were car bombs going off all over DC, a second plane was about to hit the Pentagon, a plane was about to hit Camp David, etc etc.

No one had a clear picture as to WTF was going on until it was all over.

2006-04-05 10:59:10 PM
Calvin Hobbes: Sir, I hope you do not choose to vote.

He applauds their release but would personally not like to hear them. That is a perfectly tenable stance.

I am glad, Sir, you do not choose who gets to vote.

2006-04-05 10:59:46 PM
Pretty farking sad our government thinks we need a bedtime story about magical heroes and not the likely truth of having to do what was necessary to save others. 'Course, what's sadder is some people revel in their binky and bottle.

2006-04-05 11:04:01 PM
*checks bank account for pony money*

*sigh*

Fnord: ...that there were car bombs going off all over DC,
I was living about 10 minutes south of the Pentagon then, and I clearly remember being afraid to leave work because of those reports.

Prepare yourselves for the endless FWD:>FWD:>FWD:>FWD:> emails of .swf files with flags and family portraits zooming in with "Across the Universe" playing, interspersed with "United 93, Cleveland Center" audio from this newly-released pile.

The mawkish is about to hit the anur.

GaryPDX: Our glorious military doesn't react that fast

scary but true comments.

NewportBarGuy: I am glad, Sir, you do not choose who gets to vote.

I am not able to vote in this country. I am simply a neutral observer.

GaryPDX: I don't believe 93 was shot down...way too much confusion that morning. Our glorious military doesn't react that fast.

As I recall... and this is only my recollection... I was the designated nerd at the place I worked at, and was asked to get the info for everyone... The second plane hit, and then the National Guard and Air Force ready fighters were scrambled. Assumably the second wave would have been up fairly soon after.

We had reports that they had lost contact with 93, even on my crappy 3rd rate radio station that I could get a solid internet lock on. Now... look at the airbases. Now look where 93 was.

Again, I have no problem with it... acceptable losses... but to make it a talking point. Icky. Very icky.

GaryPDX: I don't believe 93 was shot down.

Maybe not, but the glorious 'attack of the passengers' and the heroic "Let's Roll" is probably as far from the truth as the F-15 theories.

If these people are heroes... don't you think a smart hero would ask "Hey...after we get control of this plane... er... does anyone know how to fly it?"

I'm detecting a bit of skeptism regarding the happenings on Flight 93 on 9/11 on this thread. Is there really information out there that this flight was shotdown in order to keep it from crashing into its target?

Calvin Hobbes: If these people are heroes... don't you think a smart hero would ask "Hey...after we get control of this plane... er... does anyone know how to fly it?"

I'd be worried about the whole "suicidal terrorist" thing first, then the needing a pilot thing.

Wow! President Bush sure has aged since 9/11. He looks like he was in Kindergarten in that pic.

Calvin Hobbes: er... does anyone know how to fly it?"

Of course they would try. That is why I don't think the 'official' version of the story is the truth. I don't know if it was shot down or not, and if it was, I agree with you about
'acceptable loses'. What I do believe is the Bremer story is as fictional as any soap opera.

I do believe it was shot down, I felt that right from day one. Since then I heard people who live in the area saying they saw a fighter jet fly over head before the plane went down and after. The government says there was no other plane in the area...oh then there was but it was a different kind of plane...then no plane...then it was a private plane that was in the area so they asked to it fly over the crash scene to help them find it.

Also with reports of parts of the plane being found upwards of 3 miles away from the crash site... Now I'm not a plane crash expert but that would seem pretty far to travel from a crash...but maybe I'm wrong I don't know.

haws83: I'd be worried about the whole "suicidal terrorist" thing first, then the needing a pilot thing.

Remember, at the time, when you got taken by terrorists it meant a nice Cuban vacation with some Pina Coladas and good cigars and then a free flight home.

Now, if they had CNN on the flight that would be different, but the whole thing turns off of someone getting a cell phone call... and of course, your cells are off on an airplane, even if you can get connection at 32,000 feet.

What altitude was flight 93 at?

They were talking by use of the in-plane phones. That much is documented fact. There is also record of cell phone calls being connected and passengers calling loved ones who told them about the WTC towers.

Zero when it hit the ground...

TheNyquilKid: I do believe it was shot down,

The fact of the matter is, we will never know for sure. The gov't isn't going to admit it if they did, even though most Americans would understand the need for such action.

I try to save my tinfoil hat for other things; namely that Bush was well aware something was going to happen in the fall of '01 and probably eagerly anticipated it.

Hey Abdul... the passengers are lining up to use the in-flight phone system!

Well, make sure they all have valid VISA cards... I mean, I don't want to be charged for their calls.

Does this jive with the box-cutter, killing a flight attendant, storming the cockpit, controlling the passenger compartment story?
