Good thing the frog didn't have a bomb for a headdress.

2006-04-05 12:34:04 AM
Maybe they should protest or something.

2006-04-05 12:35:11 AM
Can I get some freedom fries with that monkey burger?

2006-04-05 12:36:02 AM
They certainly seem to have time to protest; it's almost like no one wants to hire them for a real job...

2006-04-05 12:36:56 AM
If they only worked as hard as they riot.

2006-04-05 12:36:56 AM

Do they need a timeout? Maybe some quiet time in the corner to think about what they've done.

2006-04-05 12:39:41 AM
Most French aren't lazy, actually. It takes too much effort.

2006-04-05 12:39:42 AM
I work for the French, so I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies.

2006-04-05 12:39:52 AM
What a bunch of whiny babies. I hope they croak.

2006-04-05 12:44:09 AM
The French are amusing. Seemingly eager to strike and vacation their way into being a poor country.

I was hoping for a little more car burning this riot around. We had to be content with one guy throwing a rock. booooring

The majority of the protesters are high school or university students. So no the majority of them don't have jobs but one day they would like to have a job with certain granties. In France if yo don't have a CDI(Contrat D'emploi Indetermine=is no end) it is impossible to get a loan to buy a home or a car. Unemployment for the young(18-28) is around 25% and in the ares that had the most riots last fall it's closer to 40%.
There are a lot of problems with the system here in France but there are just as many problemes with our system in the states.

If the U.S. had the persistent high unemployment rates that France has (all ages), there would be a different kind of rioting in the streets here. In other words, France's socialistic/unionized anti-growth system would not fly here.

Yeah, this 10% overall unemployment and 25% youth unemployment here in the states is really getting me down. Oh, wait...

So, basically, it seems that the French are out beating the living shiat out of their own country because they want guaranteed jobs and pay forever? At the least, this certainly fails to contradict the theory that they are lazy.

2006-04-05 01:16:48 AM
I would think the French should be glad of a gradual improvement in the way the English speak of them. The old term used to be crapauds (toads). Granted it is a small improvement but then again this is a nickname from the wars with Napoleon. So there really isn't that much time for the French to show much improvement. And they haven't.

treesloth: At the least, this certainly fails to contradict the theory that they are lazy.

Doesn't do anything to contradict their ignorance of common sense, of course.

The day the general French populace comes to understand basic economics, I'll probably figure out how to cure colon cancer with common household objects. On the bright side, it's refreshing to see one major industrialized country that will be overwhelmed by emerging Asian economic power way before we will, barring any currency crisis.

Being in denial is probably a better way of putting it. They're in denial of the current real-world economic structure, globalization and that they can't carry their economic model into the future. And it's only going to get worse the longer that they resist/protest reforms (demographic trends are really working against them).

There's a good reason why they have 10% unemployment rates. And, it's only going to get worse if they don't undertake serious reforms soon (in other words, acknowledge reality).

I have DSL, as well. I think the two extra seconds was the result of me looking over at the TV at the hot chick on "America's Next Top Model", before I hit the enter key. ;-)

NittLion78, Bon_Scott, you're both right, of course. Witness the reasoning skills at work:

"What Chirac has done is not enough," said Rebecca Konforti, 18... "They're not really concessions. He just did it to calm the students."

Really? And they're not raising bloody hell just so he'll make concessions to calm them down? I guess I missed the announcement-- "Please don't allow the ensuing riots and destruction to influence you. The occurence of such at the same time as our screaming of, 'Get rid of this law or we'll pound the hell out of the entire country' is purely coincidental." They don't want concessions? What the HELL kind of idiot is she?

The refusal to get rid of this law may be the only ballsy thing I can remember Chirac doing.

Correction, they want guaranteed jobs and pay forevever without actually working for their jobs and pay forever.

Tainted1, I stand corrected. :-)

I read an article in the NYT the other day. It seems 75% of French students want to be civil servants with a guaranteed paycheck and pension.

And a snotty attitude, if I may say so.

You may have enviable bodies, but you are going to have enviable unemployed bodies with no pensions PDQ.

Love the country but it's overdue to nuke the people. News! French people will have to work, too. Quel dommage, sacre blue!

Nope. Don't speak French. If they want my tourist dollars, they can admit they speak English. I'm too busy learning Spanish.

The refusal to get rid of this law may be the only ballsy thing I can remember Chirac doing.

I think that Chirac and his government are finally realizing that foreign investment (which creates jobs) into their country is going to dwindle to nothing unless they get serious about initiating reforms to make starting a business (investing) there tenable.

And, I'm talking about large-scale investment. Opening factories/manuf'r plants, etc. Instead, French Co.'s are relocating out of the country.

Le Filtre changed bleu to blue. That's okay, Drew. I wasn't too sure abt my English anyway. Quelle dommage? (Me parece mejor). Spanish is easier.

Truth hurts, but he forgot to add appeasing, colaberating, untrustworthy, back stabbing, and cowardly to be more truthfull about the french.

At least the French aren't hungover at work every single f-ing day, like the Brits.

I didn't do the photoshop though. I found it on Google Image Search. I used 'frog' and 'french' as my search terms.
