It's about time they crack down on this!!!

2002-06-05 09:31:45 AM
And what drug EXACTLY is this guy high on?

2002-06-05 09:33:39 AM
haha..the first time I saw this clip at about 3 AM....I was wondering why he grabbed his face when the ball hit him in the legs.

Confused me, but I was glad he got fined for overacting. There is WAYYYY too much of that in the World Cup.

2002-06-05 09:33:42 AM
duhh...duh...
soccer...sheesh! I like soccer, I really do, but thats just stupid!

The swiss franc is worth alot of money :)

2002-06-05 09:34:29 AM
Repeat story. Fark has nothing better to post?

P.S. Rivaldo is still NOT Ronaldo.

2002-06-05 09:36:17 AM
wow.. posted yesterday.. we needed that.

2002-06-05 09:38:06 AM
Bunch of philistines, trying to stomp out a great art form just because you can't comprehend it with your puny brains!

2002-06-05 09:40:15 AM
Klinnsman...

2002-06-05 09:40:50 AM
He looks Karl Malone look like a small-town dinner theater actor.

2002-06-05 09:43:02 AM
Mister_Anytime, you just made the list

2002-06-05 09:44:10 AM
What was the fine for that guy biting his teammates dick?

2002-06-05 09:46:11 AM
$6000 - that's pocket money on his wages. Got away with it.

2002-06-05 09:47:40 AM
Rivaldo is one of the Corsican brothers. His brother was in a bar fight while watching the game and got punched in the face.

OBVIOUS

bug
2002-06-05 09:49:15 AM
Cormee, post your Ronaldo pic again. that was farking hilarious

2002-06-05 09:55:48 AM
USA !!!!! USA !!!! USA !!!!!!

stoopid brazilian...

2002-06-05 10:33:48 AM
They should ban him, he's a worthless cheating piece of crap.

2002-06-05 10:37:01 AM
FIFA blew it big time. The fine is a joke. If they really wanted to clean up this kind of crap - they would have suspended him for the next game. Yet again, all talk and no action. They keep talking about how they were going to crack down on the faking (Italy being the stars at this) and allowing this to slide is unacceptable.

2002-06-05 10:41:07 AM
Wow.. a $6390 penalty on a $5.6 million/year salary. That's a bit harsh isn't it?

2002-06-05 10:42:37 AM
So, let me get this straight. In soccer, the foul is determined by how well the victim acts?? That's absolutely stupid. How about judging whether there was a foul or not by what the perpetrator does.

Doh
2002-06-05 10:45:42 AM
The headline sounds pretty stupid... it seems like the person who submitted it didn't know what happened instead of seeming to make a joke.

Anyhoo.

A red card is a serious thing, especially in the World Cup, and if the Turkish player who got one didn't deserve it because of simulating, then it's Rivaldo who should be suspended instead of getting a light tap on the wrists from FIFA.

2002-06-05 10:46:08 AM
why are soccer fans such tough guys over seas when the athlete's are such pansies?

2002-06-05 10:47:43 AM
Rivaldo is an amazing player, but after watching the game last week, he is a complete and utter cheating dumbass.

What makes it even worse is the fact that both the referee and the linesman (who was standing about a foot away) saw it and did nothing.

The fine is a complete waste of time, he's a multi, multi-millionaire. Ban him for the next game, then in might make a difference.

FIFA are complete idiots. "Get tough on simulation!" they say. Then this happens, yeah riiiiight.

2002-06-05 10:48:48 AM
Yep, he got away with it. His team still won, he got a tiny (by his standards) fine, and no suspension. Watch Rivaldo do it again next match.

That being said, he's not too shoddy a player though.

2002-06-05 10:50:44 AM
Doh

The Turkish player had already received a yellow card. Kicking the ball at another player deserves another yellow, so even if Rivaldo hadn't cheated he would've been sent off.

It's just Rivaldo's reaction which was unfair, not the punishment given to the Turkish guy.

2002-06-05 10:53:50 AM
OK, he faked it and yes, this is pocket money for him. But the Turkish player AIMED at him, he wanted to hit Rivaldo (Ronaldo?) with the ball because he was mad with the penalty in the previous play, so I say he still deserves the red card.

Brazil has been farked so many times by inexperienced refs, so it's about time it gets some payback. Try watching a Brazilian team playing anywhere in South America during Copa Libertadores. The refs pretty much ignore any violence done against the Brazilian team pretty much because they are the only country in SAmerica that does not speak Spanish.

Is that stupid OR WHAT?

2002-06-05 10:55:03 AM
they should kick him in the shins, then kick him in the face so he can tell the difference, and then kick him in the junk just to drive the point home (so to speak).

same goes for Dominik Hasek.

Doh

Zygotic:

I didn't know he already had a yellow card -- that was one of the games I missed.

2002-06-05 11:05:32 AM
GALATASSARAY: What ZygoticMynciBoy said plus: this is not the turkish league, this is the world cup and this is Rivaldo, a FIFA PLAYER OF THE YEAR. If you are going to give him the ball, hand it to him nicely. Respect.

BTW, Does anybody remember Diego Simeone and David Beckham in France? Same thing, a smart player giving his team advantage on the field.

Funny to read all these comments and opinions, but I wonder, how many of you have ever played organized soccer? Stick to Nascar, its easier for you to understand.
Congradulations to the USA men's team, I didnt think they stood a chance against Portugal. Vitor Baia should be granted US Citizenship!

2002-06-05 11:08:30 AM
BunnyX : Bunch of philistines, trying to stomp out a great art form just because you can't comprehend it...

Whining like a baby is a "great art form"?!?

The Turk got what he deserved, no question, but Rivaldo deserved a red card, suspension, and a massive fine - at the least. His actions bring the game into disrepute, he is an utter disgrace. Shame, Rivaldo, Shame...

2002-06-05 11:08:58 AM
Sounds like Peter Forsberg. Brilliant player, but takes a dive like no other. At least when he whines, he complains about the correct body part.

Doh
2002-06-05 11:09:56 AM
I'll admit it... I've never played organized soccer before. Pick up games, yes, but not organized. Does that mean I can't enjoy watching the World Cup?

2002-06-05 11:15:22 AM
Doh: that was one of the games I missed.

Time zones suck... football should start mid-afternoon, not 7.30am!

2002-06-05 11:16:10 AM
Imagine the foul Fred G. Sanford could have drawn by clutching his heart and yelling " I'm commin Elizabeth, its the big one"

2002-06-05 11:16:53 AM
Everybody can enjoy watching.
Commenting on something you (no one in particular)have much to learn about is what Im referring to.

I cant get over the US over Portugal!! Way to go USA!

Doh
2002-06-05 11:18:06 AM
I'm in the EST time zone too, so that means I have to get up at 7 to get ready to watch the last live match... and then pray for some tape delays on ESPN.

2002-06-05 11:21:18 AM
He should've been suspended.

2002-06-05 11:27:47 AM
Coondog, you rule.

2002-06-05 11:30:09 AM
Actually, Crisdias, Suriname and French Guiana are two other countries in South America that don't speak Spanish either.

2002-06-05 11:31:33 AM
"Stick to Nascar, its easier for you to understand."
Interesting how a soccer/Nascar comparison gets made in this thread

Doh
2002-06-05 11:37:29 AM
There are so many comparisons between Nascar and Soccer. Just like that one time... I mean, when the guy and the... or how about... uh... um...

2002-06-05 11:38:26 AM
Not a comparison. A suggestion for those that dont understand soccer.

2002-06-05 11:39:47 AM
The NBA should have fined the entire Sacramento Kings for flopping like a bunch of wussies.

2002-06-05 11:40:11 AM
soccer players are wusses

this is where it's at

2002-06-05 11:44:44 AM
Well considering Nascar doesn't publish it's rule book for the public, so most fans don't even know the rules, and the fact if it did it would be infinitely thicker than the FIFA rulebook, I'd say it would be a heck of a lot more complicated to understand Nascar than soccer.

2002-06-05 11:47:04 AM
Somehow, I think a Marcia Brady take is needed...

"Oh my nose.."

"Oh my nose.."

2002-06-05 11:50:17 AM
Somebody show this article to Vlade Divac.

2002-06-05 11:51:22 AM
I'm not saying Hakan didn't deserve whatever cards he got, that sort of thing (kicking the ball at opponent in anger) is normal in the Turkish league.

But for FIFA to say all the "we will crack down on diving for this World Cup," then allow the highest-profile player in the Cup to basically, get away with it, is stupid.

2002-06-05 11:51:53 AM
RHIANNON: You would say that.

ELWOOD : I never had the opportunity to play ice hockey. I think ice is best served with cocktails. Have you ever played soccer? Didnt think so.

2002-06-05 11:51:58 AM
Indeed, Rhiannon.
1. Go straight.
2. Turn left.
Repeat.

2002-06-05 11:52:09 AM
