Today is the best day of the year.

2006-04-03 11:45:31 AM
I wish they had the real Opening Day in Cinti, like the old days.

2006-04-03 11:51:28 AM
Hurray! Its here. Cards vs. Phillies at 2:30 central. I would leave early, but the damn power is out at my house!

2006-04-03 12:07:43 PM
I was going to go to that game but my bonehead friend in Indy forgot to get tickets.

2006-04-03 12:10:28 PM
The Indians better fare better this afternoon than they did last night.

2006-04-03 12:36:58 PM
I'll be leaving work in about 30min to watch the games.

Go Braves

2006-04-03 12:45:47 PM
GO A's!

Zito will make Randy Johnson sue his team for non-support.

2006-04-03 01:05:20 PM
covering the mets/nationals game. Can someone answer me this? Why is opening day such a huge deal?

I can understand for the die hard fans who have season passes and wear their team on their sleeve... But I find the hunt for October so much better.

2006-04-03 01:18:08 PM
Go Rockies!

2006-04-03 01:29:48 PM
Sergeant Crash: Why is opening day such a huge deal?

Because your team is still in it on opening day.

2006-04-03 01:30:01 PM
Sarge: The only problem with the Hunt for Ocotber is that my calendar says it's April.

Besides, EVerybody is a contender in April--even the yankees.

2006-04-03 01:48:58 PM
livan is ON today.

What FriarReb98 said.

/going to Fenway in 15 days!

2006-04-03 01:55:32 PM
Have the Royals been mathematically eliminated yet?

2006-04-03 01:56:12 PM
FriarReb98

That's what I was going to say.

/Yankees Suck
//obviously

2006-04-03 02:02:30 PM
Go Jays.

2006-04-03 02:06:59 PM
The Tigers have already been mathmatically eliminated from the pennant race.

2006-04-03 02:07:33 PM
Why yes, Opening Day was very nice yesterday, thank you. And now the Mighty White Sox are in 1st place.

2006-04-03 02:07:57 PM
GO TEAM!

/I love team
//And lamp

2006-04-03 02:08:28 PM
Threw down a couple of future bets, looking at the longshot Jays to surprise everyone in their division.

2006-04-03 02:10:25 PM
Yes, Yes!!!
1 down. 161 wins to go.

Our MIGHTY WHITE SOX 162 and 0.

Every other team might as well wrap their season today. No chance.

PowerSlacker

Do you really have to ask that?
I have until June for my Cubbies.

2006-04-03 02:19:57 PM
opening day should be a national holiday. it hurts so good not being on the couch right now.

/baseball package is the best $140 ever spent
//let's go mets
///gotta believe

2006-04-03 02:20:42 PM
White Sux blow - won't even make the playoffs this year.

2006-04-03 02:21:42 PM
I got done with class at noon. I have the TV on and am prepared for all needed game viewing the rest of the day.

It should really be a national holiday. I mean, seriously.

Currently, I'm watching two of the teams that will lose to the Braves by the end of the season on ESPN.

2006-04-03 02:22:57 PM
forgot to add how much i loathe john schuerholtz and bobby cox, though i don't know how bobby's gonna make it without having his sidekick the rocking pig to pass the time with.

2006-04-03 02:23:09 PM
At least the Braves will not choak till the post season.

2006-04-03 02:23:46 PM
"In our sun-down perambulations of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing 'base,' a certain game of ball .... Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms .... The game of ball is glorious."

-- Walt Whitman

Right on, Wally, right on.

LET'S GO METS!

2006-04-03 02:24:19 PM
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now if Barry would just retire, the season would be so much more enjoyable.

2006-04-03 02:25:34 PM
..and the Reds have officially been eliminated from the playoffs.

2006-04-03 02:25:34 PM
Did the Reds give up 5 runs before the game started?

Why yes, Opening Day was very nice yesterday, thank you.

That's the made-for-tv opener. Today's the real deal.

/shoulda called in sick
//hardly working as it is
///3 slashies = out

2006-04-03 02:30:15 PM
i'll see your greatness and raise you constant under performing in queens. that being said, i think minaya has done a brilliant job of combining homegrown young talent with veteran acquisitions

/don't think i can take another extended mets losing streak in august

2006-04-03 02:32:15 PM
The 2006 Marlins have been eliminated but the 2005 Marlins, otherwise known as the 2006 Red Sox will probably make it to the post season.

yoshie0728:

They did this a few years ago with Mo Vaughn, etc etc etc...it bought them a 4th place finish in the division.

I think the starting pitching is suspect...but that damn lineup can be imposing as hell.

2006-04-03 02:33:17 PM
Hmph.

A 3 hour rain delay and game that finishes at 1am, to say nothing of the fact that women's NCAA basketball, of all things, relegated the Sox game to ESPN2, does not make for a fine opening night.

The Reds ought to open first, though. As long as they don't kill an umpire like they did in 1997.

2006-04-03 02:33:50 PM
yoshie0728

Didn't the Mets win 80 something games last year? I don't think that's under performing...I call it gelling. Look for 95-100 for the Mets this year.

/provided Pedro's toe holds up

Cardinal: GO A's!

Zito will make Randy Johnson sue his team for non-support.

The A's will crush this year just not in April. Especially not with Zito on the mound in April. Statitically his worst month. Your an A's fan you know this. By the end of May your spirit will be near the breaking point. You will want to give up but then... June the comeback begins. It ends with a 3 game crushing of the Angels in Anaheim in September.

/Go Oakland
//Gonna miss the game tonight but I have a good reason.
///8 clap. U--C--L--A UCLA fight fight fight

I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game, although the Japanese, Koreans and Cubans--hell, even the Canadians--all play it better.

5-0! WHOOOOOO Suck it Cardinal fans

The Cards have a new stadium - and it's sold out for the season already (except for single-seat tickets, and SRO).

The NaSkAr: 5-0! WHOOOOOO Suck it Cardinal fans

5-1, with men on second and third, against the worst team in the NL.

I can dream, can't I?

2006-04-03 02:41:36 PM
I think the Mets were 83-79. Not awful, but decidedly mediocre, especially when you consider their payroll.

2006-04-03 02:46:58 PM
Anybody using MLB audio? Mine won't play, wondering if it's just me.

2006-04-03 02:48:15 PM
Cubs just got lucky. That was about 6 inches away from being a game-tying grand slam by Kearns.
