Was it the snakes?

/I'm betting it was the snakes...

Damn...didi it crash IN Dover, or one of the farms in the outlying area?

2006-04-03 08:18:44 AM
Just south of Dover AFB near RT 1 and 9. Fox 29 showed some footage a few minutes ago and it did not appear to be in an area that would have injured other people. The plane did break up into three pieces but there were no fires from the footage.

At least those are crates spilled onto the ground, instead of soldiers.

2006-04-03 08:27:43 AM
GODDAMN.

Looks like fairly big chunks are intact. Hopefully the crew's okay?

2006-04-03 08:28:57 AM
That's not gonna look good on your next performance review.

Edsel: Looks like fairly big chunks are intact. Hopefully the crew's okay?

The flight deck looks in one piece, i'd be worried where the loadmasters were though, hopefully they were strapped in...

LEFT!! TURN LEFT, DAMMIT!!!

/one please, aisle seat, just behind the crate

This one's a little closer - No word on casualties yet-

Looks like they sprayed foam on the left wing, and that might be an escape slide right behind the same wing. Perhaps they lost an engine on takeoff?

2006-04-03 08:36:07 AM
the emergency slides came out and they recently reported that their were no fatalties. but 17 people are being brought to the hospital anyway.

This is all part of the worldwide conspiracy to invade Delaware for Halliburton.

Where's the tail?

Perhaps the missing tail is part of the cause?

The biggest plane wreck in the world.

2006-04-03 08:39:29 AM
Wow. Look at that.

2006-04-03 08:39:45 AM
The tail landed on another part of the island.

2006-04-03 08:41:11 AM
Ok well then that means it came off in flight, right? Or not. I dunno. It is weird that you can't see it even in the long shots, if it came off on impact.

2006-04-03 08:41:12 AM
HOLY shiat!!!

"Id like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, dont turn to God, you just rejected him from your city. . . . And dont wonder why he hasnt helped you when problems begin, if they begin. Im not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if thats the case, dont ask for his help because he might not be there."

I was at Ramstein in '90 when a C-5 went down just off the end of the runway.
It was on its way to Rhein-Main for engine maintenance. One engine crapped out on takoff, and it rolled over.

Ended up a pile of very small pieces.

2006-04-03 08:44:30 AM
That's not gonna look good on your next performance review

Actually, given the shape of that plane and its cargo, that might look really nice on a performance review..."Pilot successfully crash-landed plane after tail section came unhinged midflight," or similar.

2006-04-03 08:44:35 AM
maybe one of them terrorists finally used that SA - 7 Shoulder Fired SAM they kept talking about. Bush was righ! Oh nooess!!!!! We need him for four more years!!!!

2006-04-03 08:45:02 AM
I am not convinced this was a plane that went down. There is clear evidence to those who are not fleeced by this corrupt administration that this was caused by a missle attack, not a plane crash.

Look at the debris field!

Where is the wreckage of the plane? I don't see one in these pictures.

2006-04-03 08:45:21 AM
Wait, you mean a large, really really heavy metal object that was screaming through the skies at hundreds of miles per hour failed to stay up there for some reason or another?

Wow....that is clearly the shocker of the day.

Ended up a pile of very small pieces.

This one may end up the same way. There isn't a vehicle capable of moving the main chunk of airplane intact.

2006-04-03 08:46:05 AM
If you don't have any idea just how big this plane really is here is a comparison. You can drive, i said DRIVE two(2) semi-trucks through the thing and have room to spare. Just look how small those big ladder fire trucks are compared to the plane.

Another point these beasts are sloooooooooooooooooow. When they are taking off it looks like they are going to fall out of the sky. So wheather it was a landing or take off the speed was low for most airplanes.

Still hope the crew is good to go.

2006-04-03 08:46:12 AM
I bet that was one freaky ass ride, not gonna see that one at King's Island anytime soon.

2006-04-03 08:46:13 AM
Just talked to my uncle working at the AFB, said no fatalities, but 2 in critical condition in the hospital. They won't release information on anything related to the crash or whether the plane was taking off or landing yet though.

2006-04-03 08:47:03 AM
Fox just stated that there are injuries but no word on casualties. Said the plane had mechanical problems right after take off and crashed heading back to the base.

2006-04-03 08:47:27 AM
... we're in Delaware.

2006-04-03 08:47:44 AM
1. These planes are much, much bigger than you can even imagine.

2. If CNN thinks it's funny to call these images "BREAKING NEWS" then they've got another think coming.

3. Seriously, it looks as if it's at least possible that there are no fatalities, and that's a wonderful thing if so. Prayers for them and their families (who may not know what's what on the casualties yet any more than we do.)

2006-04-03 08:48:09 AM
Am I going to hell for laughing after reading UnstoppableDrew's comment?

2006-04-03 08:48:18 AM
wow - with all the weight inside you'd think this plane would suffer more damage. they should build pasanger planes like this.

2006-04-03 08:48:31 AM
But, but Clinton....
//Just getting that out of the way

It looks relatively ok, not a lot fire, looks like it came down alright, probably skidded a little, nothing too serious, cargo braking loose probably did a majority of the damage with no fatalities, looks dramatic as hell. Good job to guys for setting it down over open pasture... this could have been nasty.

Phil Herup: The biggest plane wreck in the world.

Or, the second biggest, technically, since that's the world's second largest airplane.

2006-04-03 08:50:34 AM
I hope the tray tables and seat backs were in an upright position. Please exit through the huge gaping hole in the plane , either port or starboard.

2006-04-03 08:50:38 AM
Que?

2006-04-03 08:51:00 AM
Damn.

How'd it break off in a section like that?

2006-04-03 08:52:21 AM
Radio in MD is saying that the plane lost the # 2 engine and the tail seperated from the plane shortly there after. I am guessing its head assploded when it hit the ground.

Here is to hoping the crew is A-OK.

2006-04-03 08:52:27 AM
Early reports say that crewmember Ethan Rom is OK.

deeoh1: Or, the second biggest, technically, since that's the world's second largest airplane.

I don't think there's been an Antonov 225 crash yet, THAT would be the biggest plane wreck in the world.

Did anybody else think of you-know-what when you read the word fuselage?

Not a pilot myself, but it is my understanding that the most dangerous thing in an airplane is trying to return to the field right after takeoff in an emergency. Problem is that you are going about as slow as the plane can possibly fly, and the instinct is to whip the plane around 180 degrees to make it back to the airfield. That is a recipe for a stall at low altitude, or a spin, and you just don't recover from them when you are low and slow.

C-5's are HUGE beasts!

Actually, they're not really any slower than any other large jets. NASA had an old definition for "perceived velocity"--the amount of time it takes for an object to travel its own length. So a C-5 looks like a lumbering beast, but it's still moving just as fast as an airliner on takeoff/landing, for example.
