here's the funny part, i'm on lunch (here in indiana) and we've gotten NO work done so far today. for SOME reason, our servers crashed late saturday/early sunday.

so turns out no one in our IT department managed to actually prepare for the hour change.

//doesn't understand the big deal about having to change your clocks.

DST was fine before the invention of tractors with engines strong enough to run bright headlights. The farmers needed the extra light back when they couldn't get access to the tractors with the headlights. Now it just messes up everyone's inner time clocks for a month. Just make it so we get long summer days and have done with it already!

Change to DST=bad. Lose an hour of sleep, drinking, or both (not necessarily in that order).

Change back to Standard Time= Good Gain an Hour of Drinking, sleeping, or both.

Teutonic_Knight DST is dumb. Arizona is lucky.

DST rocks. It stays light later, which is great. We should jump ahead by 2 or 3 hours, not just one, and then just leave it like that. We're not farmers anymore, few people ever wake up before sunrise, so it makes much more sense to have daylight until later in the evening.

so that's all one has to do huh? put "God" in any headline to incite a flamewar and it gets greenlit.

Mr. Clarence Butterworth: DST rocks because it doesn't get dark right away, after work.

If that was the purpose, we'd have DST during the winter (when it does get dark right away after work) rather than the summer, when there is already 2-4 hours of sunlight after work.

At least you didn't say the purpose of DST was to keep it from being dark when kids get on the school bus in the morning. It's almost impossible to get those people to understand it.

I'm in Indiana, and I don't know how many dumbasses I saw on the news talking about how they wanted DST so it would get dark later in the evening during winter. I almost wished we went to Central as well just so I could track those people down in December when it got dark an hour earlier and beat them senseless.

I think God might be punishing Indiana for having a John Mellencamp concert.

2006-04-03 01:09:40 PM
I leave for work @4am. I want to see the sunrise as I head into town. Now....they took it away from me.

My Man isn't Mitch.....it was Evan Bayh.

/will get over it
//can't wait until Lent is over so I can have a beer

2006-04-03 01:10:50 PM
Nature: What a sadist! As if the concert itself weren't punishment enough.

2006-04-03 01:22:10 PM
I'm with Nature. This was a clear protest against Mellencamp.

DST has nothing to do with farmers.

What the fark do they care what time it is? They just get stuff done when it needs doing.

I live in Tennesee. Last nights stoem was bad. BUT. 4 years ago we had a hail storm so nasty is TOTALLED my 3 month old 2002 Nissan Maxima SE and we had to get new siding and a new roof. It sounded like planes were dropping bricks on my house. Weird thing was we never lost power through the ordeal.

/needs a garage

I've always wondered whether DST in tornado alley increases injuries due to storm damage (seriously). Think about it:

1. strong storms tend to come in the afternoon (not always true with front boundaries, but summer storms do).
2. peoples workplaces are safer than their homes
3. DST puts people at home earlier in the afternoon
4. therefore injuries increase with DST

If it can save energy, why not this?

/mostly kidding

Ok. I agree that Mitch has got to go, but WTF? Bayh? The man doesn't care about what his constituents think anymore than Mitch does. He's just more subtle at blowing them off. The man only cares about preparing for his presidential run.

Gov Daniels can take his DST and shove it where there is no daylight. This is just another example of how gub'mint officials can NEVER resist the urge to meddle in people's lives if it means a little more cash in their campaign funds.

Daniels = SUCK
Bayh = SUCK
Lugar = SUCK

(Equal opportunity RepubliCrat hater)

Still, I like living here. The weather's not too bad most of the time, the city's pretty clean, and the people are nice.

i am the infidel: Johnny Cougar sucks!

Damn straight. Consider yourself fortunate. Having grown up here, I've had to put up with old Mellonhead far more than the rest of the country has.

Mellonhead AND Henry Lee Summer. Sheesh.

Just be glad you don't live in Bloomington. Ugh.

2006-04-03 06:37:58 PM
anross,

You live in Bloomington? Oh, you poor, poor thing. Just be glad it's not the late 1980's down there, when you couldn't even go hide in one of the limestone caves to get away from Melonhead.

2006-04-04 02:31:27 AM
I'm in Bloomington. I'll take an occasional mellonhead incident over the sea of pickup trucks and support our troop magnets that is the rest of this state.

Aw, quit your mellencamp biatching, it could be worse, people could be trying to convince you that country is the answer. If there's one thing I like about John-boy, its that he at least knew there's more to life than a twang and your dog slinking off with your wife and former best friend.
/Northern Indiana, is the only spot worth being at (close to the Dunes, Chicago, and Michigan)

i've lived in indiana for the past 4 years, and have NEVER heard so much griping about loosing an ENTIRE 60 minutes to the time change. Whiney babies.
how can someone be so tired from loosing ONE hour of sleep? I set my clocks Saturday evening and then ignored them.
Sorry, but the fact that the sun was still shining at 8pm makes me supremely happy - now I feel like i actually have a 'day' after I get off of work; no sitting in the darkness at 6:30PM (when I get HOME at 6:30 PM from work anyway).
