It's about a 32-story building.

For some reason I read it like this:

Tomato hits downtown Indy right as outdoor final four concert finishes. (With pic of skyscraper damage)

Why do you never hear of skyscrapers getting tornado damage?

Until now, I mean.

2006-04-03 12:01:03 AM
worst storm I've ever seen went through indy tonight, reports of wide spread damage throughout indiana, illinois, kentucky and continuing in tennessee.

scifarker: worst storm I've ever seen went through indy tonight,

It definitely sucked, but not the worst ever. Then again, I'm not on the southside or downtown, where most of the damage happened. I did see a couple of transformers explode though.

/Don't worry, Optimus Prime is ok.

Because double-wides don't usually come with a third story

Alright!
Enough of this crap!
One Question!
Will Bob and Tom be on Monday!?!
If Indy still has Bob and Tom, all is well.
If not, I'm loading the SKS and pity the fool that comes near my yard!

Jabber -

I guess I'm not saying much I've only been in Indy for a few years. Sirens went off more than 5 times here, though.

I live near both a fire station and high school (Ben Davis). Their sirens were going off almost continously for 30 minutes. We get a storm like this almost every year. I've never seen one hit downtown that badly though.

Rat: Auntie Em! Auntie Em!

I'm right here!

That shiat is heading for Cincinnati. The sirens have been going nuts here.

Why do Tornadoists hate America?

2006-04-03 12:12:00 AM
So, excluding the *skyscraper damage*, it was a typical spring storm for Indiana?

Donny Baker sought for questioning.
Seems some looting at a 7/11 took place near a boat that was for sale

On the Northside, power liens were reported to be burning at 71st Street and Keystone Avenue,

I was going to post something snarky about the misspelling in the article using the definition of the word "lien", but when I went to Google to copy->paste the definition, my connection went completely dead. Couldn't even load Google. Guess God doesn't want me to start down that path of being a spelling nazi. It's a sad and lonely path.

2006-04-03 12:16:00 AM
Wow. CNN breaking news is now reporting more than 8 dead in tennessee from tornadoes.

2006-04-03 12:17:23 AM
I swear to god that was a bad storm!

You other Farkers are from Memphis and are just pretending to be from Indy! Admit it! Farkers!

(downtown tornados)
There was footage of one in Nashville or Memphis a few years back.
St Lake City a few years back.
Tornado and waterspout in Miami, probably 15 years ago.

Cities are small areas, when compared to the overall area.
Skyscrapers/towers (this is a tower) are even smaller areas.

Bob and Tom are fine. Their studio is northeast of the main damage. Then again, they could have been downtown for the Mellencamp concert. We should pray for them and Omarion just to be safe. ;)

You know, I discounted the tinfoil hat crowd when they said al Qaeda was goint to try to pull something during the NCAA Tournament. Damn, a farkin' tornado. I didn't think they could pull that off.

can't believe I'm the only one making Bob and Tom jokes about Indy!

I can't believe someone was able to use "Bob and Tom" and "jokes" in the same sentence without the word "are" in between.

Fort Worth in May 2000

The Bank One Building in his pictures there is still being repaired. There was also another building that was completely destroyed. Scary thing is it was only an F2.

that was not a typical spring storm...at least not for downtown.

i live about 6 blocks from where the concert was. i walked down there and the air was just eerie so I left early. I was in the basement to shut my mom up, but i'm gladi went there with the reports of a tornado or funnel cloud hitting that building. it was a lot worse than anyone expected.

all you can hear now is sirens outside. woo hoo indiana.

2006-04-03 12:33:33 AM
as I understand it, the massive Friggemall tower and the NAPA studios dominate the entire downtown Indy area. If my sources are correct, their tower is at least 200 stories high. Surly such a tower can hold out the storm. I understand Haywood Banks is more concerned about Cincinnati where it only takes a slight breeze for a Cinci cop to kill a black youth due to suspicions.
Drop the Conie and assume the position, NOW!

Where ya work? My office is just a few blocks from that building, and I park in the Union Station garage.

At least the falcon-cam is still working and there's still a falcon on the nest; I'm hoping to see the other bird soon:

http://blogs.indystar.com/falconblog/

(The falcon-cam is also just blocks from the damaged building,...)

This storm hit a little close to home - but the worst seemed to be over earlier than the breathless news-ditz on 59 implied that it would. Things have been calm here on the northeast side since probably just a hair after 11pm, and they were saying earlier that the tornado watch conditions held till 2am.

crap, that was nine years ago? I can't believe I was like ten years younger back then.

It rained for 2 hours here tonight and left 2 inches of water standing in our back yard. Now our dogs are muddy and need a bath.

Is that Miami Tornado the same one that went out over the atlantic and turned into a waterspout? I seen something like that on TV back about that time but my memory of that report is a tad fuzzy.

Nothing like the one that hit LA on April 5th.
