Ohio University will reimburse a student for a bicycle that was destroyed after officials mistakenly believed a sticker with the name of a Florida punk band was a bomb threat.

how stupid can you be?

I predict that this thread, like all threads on Fark, will degenerate into isolated interjections about the female anatomy.

They are going to buy him a new bike at the cost of $800-$1300 to replace an eight-year-old one? Wouldn't be cheaper to buy him a newer, used bike of camparable or better quality for less?

2006-03-31 12:31:15 PM
Ohio University is good for only 2 things. The burito buggy, and holoween celibrations. Other than that the bobcats have degenerated into uselessness.

That is a stupid band name anyway. What happens when he puts a new sticker on his new bike? They should tear his new bike apart and tell him to F-off.

Yes, yes, we all know about cat penises.

I guess I'm going to get rid of my "This car is full of anthrax" bumper sticker.

Don't dogs have this too? I recall my english teacher talking about throwing a bucket of cold water on dogs that were, eh, making love, and the dogs freaked out because he coulden't pull it out due to the same effect(I'm guessing).

/kinda wish humans had that...

I say this regularly,
This kind of non-sense will continue to increase and will grow much worse.
There is a fake bomb scare, panic over a BB-gun, panic over a white power, or some other stupid over reaction in the US every day.
And it will get worse.
Its not just because people are jumpy after 9-11.
Its not because "you can't be too careful"
This happens because there is a built in mechanism that rewards over-reacting officials.
Whenever coops send in a robot and blow up a flashlight in a Starbucks bathroom, or a downtown is cleared over a BB-gun, or a bike is blown up over a stupid sticker, somewhere there is a guy who fills out a paper and that agency gets more Federal Funding. And this teaches those agencies to always over-react.

My penis is big enough so it doesn't need barbs to keep it from slipping out.

Heh, we have a cart at work called "The Bomb". I'm surprised nobody has reported a bomb threat about that.

Well, anyways, I think I've learned enough about animal penii for today. Off to the Tech tab!

Well...I sort of can't blame them. The sticker said "This Bike is a Pipe Bomb". For all they know the frame is hollowed out and it's filled with C4 or whatever it is they make pipe bombs out of.

If he'd put that sticker on his backpack, or fridge, or car or something, OK. But to actually put it on a bike, when the sticker references bikes and pipe bombs - what do you expect?

Bike is 8 years old and cost about $800 when new.

Supposedly Garbage had their instruments in their shipping cases on a loading dock at whatever place they were performing at that night...

Of course the band name was on each box.

And because it's FARK you know the rest.

How many people attach a commercially produced sticker warning of an actual bomb.
Give me a break!

I saw this band like ten years ago at a tiny bar in my hometown. They're good, though a little old to be still playing that stuff. I guarantee they will get a kick out of this, but I wonder why it took so long to happen?

2006-03-31 01:15:38 PM
I am going to start a band called FIRE! and encourage all of my fans to yell it out in a crowded theater.

2006-03-31 01:20:10 PM
Well... I dunno. Campus rent-a-cops find a bike clearly labelled as a pipe bomb, what are they supposed to do? The world is full of nut jobs, ya know. Just because a smart turrist wouldn't leave a label on it doesn't mean some deranged asshat wouldn't.

I wouldn't have paid the kid for his bike though. Fark him if he's going to leave something in a public place that says "this is bomb" on it.

This comment is a virus.

Wouldn't it be confusing if "[x] is da bomb" slang came back into style? You'd be all like "This song is da bomb" and the cops would be all like "We must confiscate that song" and you'd be all like "Oh snap".

Totally.

Wile E. Coyote. But that's about it.
