ossarac: Yes, that's right, CBS/Infinity/FreeFM is now running lots of ads for XM Satellite radio!

Does that mean they've finally dropped the anti-satellite PSAs? Second only to Stern, those are the most retarded things on the air right now.

/wouldn't have even heard them, had I not accidentally clipped my XM antenna

Tresser: And in Canada. Can you imagine how many listeners he would have if he somehow had his satellite radio gig, and still had a show on free radio.

If only someone were brazen enough to try such a ratings bonanza...oh wait.

I heard that deal with CBS/O&A got killed?

Apples should be compared to apples.
Every 1 million listeners on satellite is worth $144M/year.
On FM Radio they're worth maybe $10M.

i'm trying to decide if you look less retarded posting in bold, or if you had just posted in all caps instead. it's a toss up really.

of course you did. you also heard that Stern never put a gag order on O&A.

it's possible it fell through....freeFM wanting to continue to run bland radio.

Actually, I read that on an O&A fan site. Was looking to see if they were crying over Ferrell getting hired by Sirius.

Just an observation here:

You O&A vs Stern vs whatever-other-DJ-has-you-creaming-your-pants-this-morning debaters realize that you look about as stupid and homosexual-like as the people who pick up celebrity tabliods in the checkout line, don't you? I mean really, think about what you're doing, if only for just a moment. You're debating which washed-up "LOL OMG COFFEE" morning show host is better, and getting pretty emphatic about it. It's pretty much like going over to Pitchfork and saying "I hate Radiohead". You *really are* exactly the same.

That is all.

Stern had 20 million fans or more. Sirius just hit the 4 million mark a couple days ago. From the first show until a couple days ago, a million people signed up for Sirius. In some places you can't even find Sirius receivers due to high demand, brought on by Stern.

Huh?

Do you live in the sticks? Stores where I live have them stocked 10 deep on the shelves with XM still outselling them.

/either way Stern still sucks

As bad as Stern is, it's hard to find anything worse than my local terrestrial radio. Choosing between local & Stern is like having to choose between licking a cow's ass or making out with my cat.

crying? they are excited. the 3 days he was put on a test run, the pests called so much, 99% of the calls that made it to the air were them. Which was only fair since he was bashing O&A. Yesterday, his first offical day on the air, he took a handful of calls...all of which were made from the inside. He was on Todd the love sponge defending O&A, showing he's learned his lesson. But no...no crying. His show is terrible and all he does is mumble half the time.

No...the pests are happy he's over there. It gives them a chance to be on the radio. That is...if he bothers to continue with his taking-calls format.

Considering Sirius went from 600,000 to 4 million over the last year and a half, I'd say there's a few that have come over.

Ahhh, the "Howie Math". 3.5 mill people came to Sirius after his announcement, just because of him!

I guess using the same math O&A had over 8 million people sign up just because of them!

Yeah, that's been amusing to follow. 600k - 4mil in 18 months is par for the course. Since day one, satellite radio growth has averaged about 200k per month. That's per carrier, not combined.

Since I bought my Pioneer XM unit in early 2002, XM has signed on close to an extra six million subscribers. All because of me!

Ghostbox: The CEO of XM did not leave, one board member did, and the rest laughed him out the door.

The whole XM vs. Sirius thing = stupid. For the most part they are similar, with just a few niche differences, and to call one "superior" over the other is preferential horsepoopy.

I love MLB and Cinemagic. Sirius has neither of these. That doesn't make XM better, it makes it my personal choice. The choice of a hell of a lot of people, too. I'd say "more than Sirius, in fact," but in the end, does XM having more subscribers make my subscription cheaper or the content better? No. Do I own XM stock? No.

So why the hell would I care?

Did you expect anything different?? Opie and Anthony became essentially invisible when they moved to XM. Just like with cable, it takes time. Fact is though, HowardStern.com is still beating every other radio host for number of visits, not to mention that I see Stern in the news every day. He's still drawing people to Sirius and, thanks to the CBS lawsuit, will be doing so for a while to come.

Yeah I am sure a Stern fan would never lie at all, which is also why Sirius hasnt caught XM yet and never will. They had to overpay for Stern since they were so far behind and within 5 years they will be bankrupt or be bought by XM.

Face it, the only time they had to catch XM was during the Stern run-up and that didnt happen, XM still has almost double the subscribers.

I admit I looked into Sirius before Stern made his move, just to see what it was all about. I wasn't really a Stern fan, and never imagined spending money each money for radio. After trying out Sirius for three days free via their website (over the internet), I was hooked. Gladly plunked down the $$$ and have been thrilled with it ever since. It cost me about $125 for a year up front (or the cost of 1 CD a month) - about what I'd spend taking the wife out to a decent restaurant for the night.

For the last 10 years, the only thing I could bear listening to on regular radio was sports talk. Now, I'm listening almost 10 hours a day at work and in the car - enjoying great music, good talk shows, several great "constant" news channels and, yes, Stern's channels (which are very funny).

IMHO, anyone on here stating that there's no way they would ever pay for radio hasn't listened to satellite ... it's great to hear a variety of music and no freaking commercials all day.

stop downloading pirated Stern eps.

I have a Sirius unit here at work, and one in my car. They both get used constantly. I got my g/f a portable Sirius unit for her car, and she's hooked now too. SF Bay Area radio sucks.

and I've had it for a couple of years now. Howard Stern moving over to Sirius was just an added bonus for me. Some of us have it for the ad-free music stations. And it's not just because it's ad-free.. there's just tons and tons of *music* .. 24/7. I've heard more new bands because of Sirius than I ever have because of internet radio.

My collegue switched last week to satellite after our "Hits" radio station morning idiot said:

"And now a new song from Green Day" and the started Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

I lent him my radio for a day at work and by noon he was out to the store to get a radio. He listens to Underground Garage and the Pulse and loves it. He tried BBC but said he grew tired of hearing 80's music remixed.

Happy with XM.

Don't care about sports.

Don't care about Howard.

I likes the music and specials. Loves me the Snoop Dogg show. Fo' Shizzle.

Oh, and Frank's Place. Loves me the Sinatra

they really make the kool-ade strong over there for the hoo-hoo listeners. which i guess makes sense since it appears that Sirius's core base is basically just Bush supporters that are used to having to drink as it is.

PSA: No one gives a fark what morning zoo you listen to.

Now then, if you simply hate commercials & censorship, getting satellite radio can make your life better.

The news, talk & music variety make road trips & commute more tolerable. It's relatively cheap like Directv w/Tivo (btw has free XM). It even has the kids channel which the tots like.

So I suggest a single Sirius mobile unit with 45 minute rewind, pause feature for car/work/home.

I don't suggest the aftermarket sat built in radios since you can't remove them & the mobile units have better displays/controls. Also suprisingly very cool, the mobile units have a built-in wireless FM transmitter that will transmit to close radios in a car/work/home. The jacks vs. transmitter have about the same quality. For the uncensored content at work I just use an earphone.

Just be cautious about receiving home/work satellte signals. You may need a line of sight from antenna to satellite & then it still may not go thru certain glass windows. I'm lucky to pick up a signal in my office where at home I have to put the antenna outside of the house.

i only pay $6 a month as it is ( +$6 for each unit up to 5 ). The $3 thing were a set of isolated incidents that hoo-hoo fans are reporting to be a fail-safe way to get XM cheaper...not that it's a bad thing in the end i guess. same kind of thing happens when you threaten to change phone companies or credit cards. haven't heard what Sirius offers, if anything, to keep it's subscribers.

Good content. Sirius is saying their churn rate is well below 5% and probably below 2% depending on what figures you use.

XM may be in more cars, but it's actually Sirius that's been purported to count unsold cars as subscribers, not the other way around.

No, they are listening to the 2 Fox News channels and the bill o'reilly wankfest. They are listening to Todd the love sponge. they are listening to hoo-hoo. and soon they get to listen to 'blue collar comedy' station with jeff foxworthy and deepthroater the cable guy. they will get to listen to nascar...and the all important fishing channel sirius is unrolling. christ...even the front page of sirius is a rednecks wet dream.

but hey...at least you got the Playboy channel. which is good since you can see playmates while listening to the radio

If what Sirius is reporting is true, they signed nearly a MILLION new subscribers since January. I'd say the momentum is on their side.
