It says the payment to the boy's father was for what was described as the "time and trouble in chasing the complaint".

Oh, so his father received compensation because the council failed to find an alternative source of education within a reasonable timeframe. Considerably less stupid than the boy receiving &pound1,500 in compensation for being expelled, which is what I got from the headline.

2006-03-28 09:28:54 AM
the council said the issue of drug dealing in schools was a highly emotive one.

I was just thinking the same thing.

What I don't understand is why the fark it's the council's responsibility to find alternative education for this kid? If they were here in the states the parents would have to find a school or home school the little bugger

2006-03-28 09:29:11 AM
drugs are bad. this kid should be punished for a long farking time

2006-03-28 09:29:53 AM
"It is not a reward, his education will suffer from his own actions. But it is not right that it should suffer further through the fault of the council."

Seems somewhat logical to me.
As long as he does suffer from his own stupidity. Of course, he'll just end up on the dole and be a leach on society anyway.

2006-03-28 09:30:08 AM
binnster, there were two payouts -- one to the boy for not being placed in a new school quickly enough, and a smaller one to the father for his time and trouble. But no, the boy is not being paid for being expelled; if he'd been placed in a new school quickly enough neither of them would have been paid anything.

2006-03-28 09:30:44 AM
Robin Leach?

2006-03-28 09:31:03 AM
Okay, just to clarify, it's 250 pounds for the father and 1500 pounds for the drug dealer?

2006-03-28 09:32:31 AM
deltabourne: drugs are bad.

You forgot the "mmkay?"

2006-03-28 09:33:01 AM
Father and scumbag son both need a beating.

2006-03-28 09:34:18 AM
Phuq that, he should have gotten an azz kicking that nearly ended his life and then been sent off to military school. Or juve. Whichever.

%^*^%$ apologist non-accountable bullshiat society mumble rubarb rubarb...

Find him a new school...? Make him find his OWN new school. What's that I hear...? Waaaambulance coming up the road? Surprise, surprise, surprise.

HAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA!!

I wish I could have been paid for the time that I was suspended from school for cannibas...

2006-03-28 09:35:02 AM
Looks like this kid has quite a business set up. Someone should check and see if the administration got a bunch of bags in return for the 1,500 in "compensation".

2006-03-28 09:35:02 AM
Law in the UK is absurd.

2006-03-28 09:36:12 AM
Ridiculous!

How is that not a reward? The kid gets 1500 pounds and time off?

That's just enough time to roll around in a pile of money.

2006-03-28 09:37:14 AM
.........I know I spelled it wrong, but... oh, nevermind..

2006-03-28 09:38:30 AM
And the parents should also be punished. This kid is 10 years old and selling drugs in school?

Anyone who doesn't think the parents are just as responsible as the kid is high.

2006-03-28 09:39:51 AM

Yes, yes. Exactly right. Yes, I agree. A long, long time. Life in prison, maybe. No --- not maybe. Definitely! Bound in chains and shackled to the wall. And forced to subsist on a diet of maggots and curd.

Can't be too lenient here. Gotta set these kids straight.

I am not sure what Year-10 is, however, can someone translate that into age?

2006-03-28 09:41:53 AM
This kid is 10 years old and selling drugs in school?

No, he's a tenth grader.

Kid should be smacked for selling drugs at school. Dumbass.

What a bunch of bullcrap.

2006-03-28 09:45:07 AM
My grandmother would have never survived her chemotherapy, if I had not been a pot dealer in tenth grade.

Nope. he's a 10 year old douche bag. From the Article. The first paragraph:

The Local Government Ombudsman ruled that Torbay Council was guilty of maladministration in its slowness to find a new school for the Year-10 boy.

2006-03-28 09:48:43 AM
Wow, alot of people are naive. In my school, I had kids crushing up Xanax and whatever else and snorting lines on their desk, in the middle of class. I also went to one of the top high schools, education wise, in Florida (yea yea I know.)

2006-03-28 09:49:29 AM
This needs a hero tag

\ducks

2006-03-28 09:50:21 AM
Danger Mouse

'Year-10 boy' = boy in 10th grade (more or less).
If it had said '10 year old boy', then you'd be right.

2006-03-28 09:50:56 AM
This article was written poorly. Why would they call him a "Year-10 boy" instead a ten year old boy? Is it a UK thing? I've never heard of age being referenced in that way.

2006-03-28 09:52:26 AM
Year 10. Damn my diylecia.

I need some drugs.

/sorry and please pass the ass-hat.

2006-03-28 09:52:47 AM
Year 10 is akin to the 10th grade in England. He is not 10 years old.

2006-03-28 09:53:31 AM
tical

I also went to one of the top high schools, education wise, in Florida

Well, that says it all...

In Georgia, we have enough respect to do it in the bathroom...

// heh, heh..

2006-03-28 09:54:34 AM
Sell him off for medical experiments!

2006-03-28 09:55:25 AM
this kid is a moron. he should totally do his deals outside of the home...what a farking moron. hope he enjoys his break in his schwag smoking haze.

2006-03-28 09:55:57 AM
Wow. I'm sure he's learned his lesson.... NOT!

Step 1: Sell drugs at school
Step 2: Get expelled
Step 3: Profit

2006-03-28 09:56:06 AM
Why would they call him a "Year-10 boy" instead a ten year old boy?
Year 10 = 10th Grade.

It doesn't mean "ten years old".

2006-03-28 09:56:16 AM
It's not age. UK schools don't have "10th grade", they have "Year-10" (approximately, I don't think the years line up exactly).

hmmmmm... and I am imagining.... ROWR!!

"head girl" goes to an all-girl school, I'd imagine....

How does one achieve the title of "head girl" at such an institution? Do you know, or should I leave it to my sick imagination?

2006-03-28 10:12:30 AM
No, I don't know... I just use my sick imagination as well!

Know of head boy because watch too much Harry Potter.

From my observation you get to be "Head Boy" or "Head Girl" in UK schools by being the most self-important ass-kissing busybody in the school. Those kids tend to go onto running prisons, or living in them.

2006-03-28 10:33:34 AM
Laws in the UK are stupid? Gimme a break!!!
He deserves the money, no matter what he did. I mean, we all get screwed because of stupid laws all the time. might as well make them work in our favour when we can. Plus, US has far more ridiculous laws.... like don't walk your elephant down the street in kentucky....

Year 10 is 14-15 for anyone who cares

One of my friends was expelled for selling cannabis. Wasnt a bad guy, reasonably intelligent and probably would have passed his GCSEs at quite a reasonable standard. He knocked out a few eighths here and there to his peers for pocket money and mostly only smoked at the weekend.

Anyway, he was caught and, thanks to the mass hysteria about drugs (thanks in part to our local rag running a front page with 'Littleover Dope Boy' on it), was instantly expelled with no appeal.

Seperated from his friends and forced to go to a 'special' school with some of the roughest people in the area he quickly went down the spiral and is now the worst kind of heroin addict, stealing from people he knows and sleeping rough.

DRUGS = BAD is ok for political speeches, but in real life, there are usually people inside the pathetic soundbites.

I really couldn't care less if someone was dealing drugs in HS. You'd encounter alot less bullying, school violence and other crime if they just threw an ounce of shake into the furnace once a day.

This 14/15 year old paid because he sold weed to some light weight who then smoked at lunch hour and couldn't hold his smoke, the stoned kid was sent to the office and cracked when the administration threatened his permanent record. The school reneged on their deal and the school yard found out who narced, the stoned kid got his ass kicked, the dealer goes to a new school and has alot more business + 1500 pounds. Hopefully he's smart with his new found weed money and invests in a legit business when he's in his 20s. Then'll get old and start voting for the tories.

Admit it, everything you know about schools in the UK you learnt from reading Harry Potter.

/No "Head" boys at my school
//No House system either

Slothie: From my observation you get to be "Head Boy" or "Head Girl" in UK schools by being the most self-important ass-kissing busybody in the school.

From my observation you get to be "Head Boy" or "Head Girl" in UK schools by being rich enough to attend one of the few private schools that actually have "Head Boys" and "Head Girls".

I can only imagine what I would do with 1500 pounds of weed.
