what the hell ever happened to soundgarden?

2002-06-04 04:18:05 AM
Can anyone name a song that drives harder than "Jesus Christ Pose"? Seriously, I'm not sure I know of any that top it.

2002-06-04 04:23:50 AM
Soundgarden is nifty. Well, as far as I can tell from what I've heard out of the boyfriend's extensive grunge music collection... Fun fun.

Seems you were kind of mean to Mr. Cornell, Djrezin8. The poor guys were getting hit in the head with shoes. They had every right to be upset and to threaten to quit for the day.

Civillian is Soundgarden mixed with RATM. I made it to the left of the stage of a Soundgarden show never in the back. All I know was that bass player could knock bud lights out like nobody's buisness. Damn I miss the good old days.
Yeah Rez most rock stars are pussys in real life, we need people like you to tell them what to do. I still will probably beat Axl's ass If and when I see him.

2002-06-04 04:31:58 AM
I apologize for spelling pussys like that when it should have been pussies. I'll hand my guy card in to the attendant at the door on the way out of fark.

I saw the same show when it came to Montreal. Great Farkin Show!! Too bad soundgarden got burnt out. Didn't get a chance to see the Down on the Upside tour. I heard they were really not into playing live at that point at all. Maybe this story was prescient of their disinterest in playing live. Then again I've always liked jamming in the jam space more than cock-rockin' in front of moronic frat boys. There's peace in the solitude of noise but only vapidness in the glare of the passive multitudes. But hey, that's just me.

2002-06-04 04:36:29 AM
Krinkle: They pretty much imploded. Apparently, Cornell had drug problems. There was also some strife amongst the band members, though I am not certain whether they aired their grievences with each other publically or not. Cornell went solo. Cameron went to play with Pearl Jam. Don't know what happened to Thayil or Shepherd.

Sucks that they broke up. They were truly awesome.

Great story, Djrezin8. Very funny.

You're not quite as good of a story-teller as Jim (SLAYERSWINE) can be, but I suspect that when you reach his age and experience in said story-telling, you'll pro'ly be just as good.

But it's still a great story, content alone. That's half the art, y'know, picking the gems.

I read the last post then my head just started to spin like a top. I should go to bed but I won't.

I would of said draddel or however you spell it but I can't spell jewish words anyways. Damn you kids and your Britney Spears records and your Eminem.

2002-06-04 05:10:11 AM
Gelatinous: I'm with you. Badmotorfinger I rate as one of my top albums alongside Ride The Lightning, Bleach and Vengeance.

2002-06-04 05:19:31 AM
Best rock record is At the Drive In. Their last one. Yeah I'm drunk so sue me.

2002-06-04 05:34:49 AM
i now am 100% certain fark is a fine place. soundgarden was the best band out of seattle, followed closely by AIC and the melvins.

and buzz will never die. the hair won't let him.

2002-06-04 05:36:18 AM
Badmotorfinger rocks - who could forget Searching With My Good Eye Closed and New Damage (that's one heavy 5/4 riff)! Ultramega OK had the rocker Flower! Louder than Love rocked out with Hands all Over, Get on the Snake and Full on Kevin's Mom! Man I still remember the day when Soundgarden called it quits - a sad cold day. I only saw them live once but it was super groovy! The new Chris Cornell stuff is a little too lame for my taste - my money is on Thayil as the true metal lord in Soundgarden that gave it that molten groove!

For what it's worth any COC with Pepper singing is worth a nod and Metallica's Justice is by far the paradigm of time shifting, carpal tunnel syndrome inducing, layered riff weaving, heavy blues pentatonic groovin' metal!

My friend's mom was really into Soundgarden back in the day, although my friend wasn't.Is that a good thing or bad thing?Oh yeah,I accidentally mocked Pig,one of the KMFDM singers, behind his back as we were walking down the street on Saturday. That's my weak brush with a famous person.

This story made me retune my guitar and chunk out the first part of Fourth of July. *sniffle* :)

2002-06-04 06:29:28 AM
didn't something similar happen in vancouver?
they got pelted with coins and ran off stage to sulk or something?

2002-06-04 06:32:12 AM
My man! That was very cool. Is your name pronounced all Frenchy-like and stuff: Luh-day? Ooh la la!!!

When I was a lad of 17 I stumbled upon a movie being filmed in Austin. I boldly breeched the barrier (flagging tape of some type) and found some extras under instruction. I infiltrated. A crew member noticed I had no tag. They got me one. Woo-hoo!

One of the scenes was inside a record store. I played a fan of outlaw recording artist Peter Fonda, waving his record like crazy. At one point, I saw him sitting on an emptied out album rack all alone at the back of the store. I boldly made my move and went back and sat down right next to him. Right next to him! He looked at me. I looked at him and nodded my head, smiling. He looked away. We sat there for awhile. "So. You're Peter Fonda," I say, resuming my nodding.

In a rather bored voice, he replied, "Yep, I'm Peter Fonda".
He eventually left me to hang out somewhere else, and I realized that, probably, I had not arrived.

Back in 1994 oooooh.

Who cares?

2002-06-04 07:00:58 AM
Took my 3 year old son to see Soundgarden at Summerfest in Wisconsin for that tour. He was really into grunge then (He'd been to see Alice in Chains the year before as they headlined Lala). Good times...

2002-06-04 07:20:07 AM
The last line was the best."...if you can't be good,be good at it."

2002-06-04 07:20:56 AM
How many different bands you want stories for? I am a stagehand when I am not working for the Gov't... Dave matthews is a short, self obsessed, prick with an Ego the size of Montana. Flava Flav almost got arrested (right after the charges of him and pot on the Bicycle) Kenny wayne shepard is a pussy and hides until the Moment he is to be on stage, Rod stewarts voice is going flat (his manager told us that) Sheryl Crow wears enough makeup to make Tammy Faye Baker over TWICE etc. etc. etc.. This weekend I get to work the Brooks & Dunn show (let me yawn again)Ahh cant wait till Area2, Ozzfest, Rush, Lenny Kravitz and a few others...

Just my two cents Take them for what they are worth...

I work security for concerts and get to work with the bands when they come through town. Played basketball with Third Eye Blind the first show I ever worked security for. Marylin Mason pointed at me and threatened to kill me (and everyone else backstage) after he sent a friend of mine to find 7 different corn products (she forgot the corn with their KFC order). Was in the same room drinking beers with Limp Bizkit, Method man and Redman along with 50-75 female fans, shot the shiat with Ani Difranco and Jack Black (not at the same time) ate dinner with Danny and Justin from Tool (They bring their own chefs and kitchen...best food I've had in years), Drank beers and hung out with Sevendust, systematic and Drowning pool. Same with Bloodhound gang. Went bar hopping with Moby. That's about all I can think of right now, there have been many through out the years and hopefully more to come. Working security is a great way to meet famous people. You get shiat jobs at first but after a few years you can land some really cool positions and work with cool people.

Phix it,
When I got here 1326 times the link was clicked so there is your answer so far. If you can do better, STFU and DO IT.

Adragontattoo,
"I am a stagehand when I am not working for the Gov't."
So you are a bouncer when you are not a cop? Please explain. And BTW, What is your stance on the legalization of marijuana?

Djrezin8,
I found the story interesting although when I met Soundgarden on the last Lollapalooza they were nothing but really nice guys.

I will have something on Corporate Mofo next week. Sorry to everyone that is waiting for my Ozzy Osbourne/Def Leppard story.

2002-06-04 08:18:18 AM
What can one say but "Wow!"

oh wait... maybe "Boring!"

2002-06-04 08:28:41 AM
Damn, I remember that show playing here in Dallas. I missed You Am I and managed to catch the Rev. I still rate that show as one of the ttop concerts that I have been to. I feel the urge to pull out Superunknown now....

2002-06-04 08:39:05 AM
wow, that guy sure likes himself.

2002-06-04 08:48:37 AM
DJs are the biggest wannabe-rockstar talentless pussies in the world.

What a farkin' fanboy.

2002-06-04 08:55:02 AM
I saw them at Lollapalooza 2 when they played "Cop Killer."

2002-06-04 09:08:14 AM
Soundgarden blows big in a live show.. you can tell that Chris NEEDS sound techs when he's recording an album to make it sound decent.. Yeah, I saw 'em in Germany..

As to the article, heh... what a piece of shiat to be written.. much less posted on Fark.

As Kyosuke said, DJ's are worthless.. My brother-in-law is a bigname DJ here... well, he's worthless too

2002-06-04 09:08:35 AM
Djrezin8:

Nice article, brother. Looking forward to the stuff to come

Phix-it, Kysuke, etc:

What Slayerswine said.

2002-06-04 09:17:35 AM
"What was going on was that they were trying to shoot that video and people kept throwing shiat on the stage and at the band. What finally blew his fuse what that someone hit him in the head with a shoe!"

"I turned to Chris and pretty much told him to get his ass back on stage and finish his show or I was going to tell everyone in Louisiana tomorrow that Chris Cornell was a farking pussy on my morning show."

My take from this is that Djrezin8 is a first-class asshole.

What the hell were they supposed to do? Wait until beer bottles and chairs started flying onto the stage?

fark that. They came to perform music, and if you and your dumbfark hick audience can't resist throwing stuff at them, then go home and go back to shooting tin cans at your trailer park. I'd have been back on the tour bus as well, and expecting full payment for the aborted show.

2002-06-04 09:19:19 AM
So wait, how old were you, 16 or 17?

2002-06-04 09:26:04 AM
"I have never seen so much scorn in one man's eyes in my life. This started a war of words and damn near a fistfight."

You have to wade through lots of backstory before you realize that's basically the whole story. You can read the headline and get just as much information about the actual incident.

2002-06-04 09:31:02 AM
I don't believe that story one bit.

2002-06-04 09:35:35 AM
OMFG. Greg Ledet.... tell me you aren't related to Professor Richard Ledet of ULL.... He was my favorite teacher at LHS (physics and physics 2) and always talked about his son who was ubersmart with computers. I dont believe he ever mentioned the son's name, but I was doing some webdesign work for him a few years back, before I had to leave for college, and he mentioned that his son could take over after I left, seeing as how he ran a computer company himself. /me is totally weirded out

2002-06-04 09:36:05 AM
I would leave the stage too. Shoes hurt!

2002-06-04 10:14:44 AM
so.. did they bring extra shoes? or where there shoeless freaks walking around? yuk!

2002-06-04 10:28:13 AM
Yes, I'm sure it was your heroic yelling at the band that made them decide to return to the stage. It's simply not possible that they would have done so anyway. I was you. You are the center of the Universe. You make the world go around. You are my God.

2002-06-04 10:28:46 AM
He should've pulled an Eddie Vedder: "Stone and I are gonna stand by the exit and beat the shiat out of anyone in their socks."

2002-06-04 10:38:22 AM
on a side note, cornell's newly aborted project "civilian" or whatever they were gonna call it, was teh suck. instead of creating new music, they simply laid cornell over the same old repetitive rage against the machine crap, and it blew. highly disappointing.

2002-06-04 10:58:40 AM
I was at the DC 101 Chili Cook Off a couple years back and the Goo Goo Dolls ended their show early because people were throwing plastic cups at them. Yes plastic cups. Luckily, they didn't have bottles at this event because I probably would've hurled one. I guess that would make the Goo Goo Dolls major pussies (Yeah we already knew that).

2002-06-04 11:18:22 AM
Kyosuke: Suck my butt. I am a DJ. And I rather like my job. I found a place that I can use my stupid humor as an outlet. I found a gig where I don't have to be someone's goat boy. So, bite my would be wang and get over yourself.

DjRezin8: I love that you got your a55 chewed by the PD, funny times.

2002-06-04 11:19:05 AM
this story may possibly have inspired me to write my Cult/Trent Reznor/Jim Rose story.

it's a beaut. Believe me.

2002-06-04 11:19:38 AM
TickleMeElmo: Spot on with your generalization that all ppl in the N.O. area are hicks. Nice post there pal.

2002-06-04 11:21:27 AM
Kerouac,
ANYTHING that involves Jim Rose is probably a hell of a story.

2002-06-04 11:22:22 AM

Worst. Dad. Ever.

Seriously... That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. A 3 year old who is into SoundGarden... No wait... Grunge.

Memo to burnouts: Grunge concerts are not appropriate places to take 3 year olds. Get the heroine needle out of your arm, and pull your head out of your asses.
