A .410 slug out of a rifled barrel can humanely take deer out to 75-100 yards or so. Smoothbore will be a bit less, just based on accuracy.

Two to the chest is plenty lethal and then some.

Not an unreasonable assumption. The funny thing about .410 is that most ammunition manufacturers don't make anything but birdshot and slugs anymore. No buck/turkey shot.

What's worse is that I sat through the "egg experiment goes bad" video on the right. Not funny, but it does have a nice money shot followed by a Nelson laugh.

Getting back to the shooter, at the end of the tape he doesn't even sound remorseful or shocked at what he did. You can tell by his tone that he's still pissed off at the kid. Sad all around.

You've never had to live in a neighborhood with a kid who is a sociopath. You can't reason with them. Their parents are usually either indifferent or actually proud of their kid (for being so dominant or something). And they know how to play it so that when you call the cops the only thing the cops can do is say, "well, we can't really do anything until he breaks the law... until then, sir, everyone just try to get along...". They're condescencion is enough to drive you to a shooting spree. Meanwhile the kid is in your lawn at three in the morning unhooking your cable or flattening your tires or peeing on your doors... and the problem doesn't go away until YOU move away.

He said he'd been harassed for 5 years by the kid and his family, the kid and his friends had been vandalizing his property....we all know the cops can't (or won't) do much unless they see that sh*t happening.....I really feel sorry for the guy.

I'm certainly not saying shooting a kid is an appropriate response but this wouldn't have happened if the kid had left the guy alone.

To me, it's not ok to shoot someone unless lives are in danger, but our society at this point has such a lack of manners, one wonders if anything but deadly consequences will ever make it polite.

Case in point: Last week, I was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk, and up zooms a guy and his buddies in a Mustang, speeding like hell. The guy almost hits me, then yells and starts throwing stuff, telling me that I'm the asshole because he had to stop! All I could think was, "Gee, if I pulled out a pistol, would he be such as asshat?"

Seriously. Many folks are complete wankers unless there's some kind of immediate consequence to allay such behavior, and so this kind of shiat happens. That kid was probably yucking it up about screwing with that old guy right up until he saw the gun. As much as I hate to say it, serves the little bastard right, despite the fact that I don't actually condone the older man's actions.
