Very interestning reading. Guess boxers will be training with using headbutts now cause it is unofficially allowed. I never heard that that was the reason Tyson bit his ears! Thats kinda hillarious and makes more sence then Tyson trained with Lions & bit the Lions ears to show dominance.

The bump looked accidential to me.

Boxing is a sport for simple-minded people ...

ooooh, nascars on ... gotta go!

I saw part of the fight. Rahman looked like he had a freaking hockey puck growing in his forehead.

Good for Ev. Cue "Gonna Fly Now"!

I want to see a picture of this extra head on his head!

The size of a baseball, eh? Well, I'd like to get a glimpse of that.

oddly enough, I've had one of those. they don't hurt at all, they go away, and now I can break a beer bottle - full - over my forehead.

Evander Holyfield's career has been full of "accidental headbutts"... his headbutts is essentially why Tyson took a chunk of his ear.

Maybe his head is just so damn big that he doesn't have the neck strength to hold it up...

SpodeFly, who the fark is that?

Since I'm not too sure how many serious boxing fans are in this thread, I thought I'd put my $.02 in. The head butts (there were two of them) were purely accidental, and it happens all the time in boxing. Evander is not a "dirty" fighter, but he does have a certain proclivity to having this happen, mostly because of his style. He leans in quite a bit, and has an unusually hard forehead, hence the reputation. Boxers with softer heads tend to complain about this more, obviously. But to call him "dirty" is a misnomer; the referee is in there for a reason, and in this level of boxing competition they would never allow out and out cheating to happen (behind the scenes is another matter all together, however). I've seen many fighters get disqualified and lose fights for it.

I will admit I'm a big Evander fan, but I honestly didn't expect him to win this fight. I think he would have preferred also to have finished it (you could see the disappointment on his face when he realized the fight was going to be stopped), and was in fact winning the fight otherwise and may very well have gone on to knock Rahman out within the round. He had him in quite a bit of trouble several times.

My guess is the winner of the Tyson-Lewis fight (if there's going to be a "winner", my money's on a disqualification by Tyson) will seek a fight with Evander for two reasons - $$ (lots of people would love to see it), and both Tyson and Lewis are probably pretty confident that Evander would be an easy rollover for them.

Looking forward to it, either way.

the tyson lewis fight is going to suck, hard. if the loser fought holyfield, that might be worth watching.

I watched this fight, farking Rahman swung his head into Holyfield. Only Rahman is sitting around swearing Holyfield did it on purpose.

On a related note, after that disappointing end, I switched over to a kickboxing match. In the 3rd round, one competitor dislocated his shoulder. He promptly marched over to his corner and had it relocated. In the next round, it happened again, and his corner tried to throw in the towel. When his corner refused to help him relocate his shoulder again, the fighter dropped with his arm over the top rope, relocating it himself. He did this 3 times during the round, finally quitting when it became more than apparent that he could not keep his shoulder located and fight at the same time. I'd like to see that whiny ass Rahman fight him.

EWWW! he really was growing an extra head on his head...

Boxing just ain't what it used to be. Now it all seems to be about very close quarter fighting, which isn't really all that interesting to watch. The pre-Ali title fights were a lot more interesting -- a lot of serious pounding where the fighters' heads never got anywhere near each other. I'm thinking of Foreman-Frasier in particular.

Ahhh i farking hate holyfield he's the worst fighter of all time, he deserved to get his farking ear bitten off by mike tyson after all the headbutts he gave mike.

I totally agree.

I'm not a huge boxing fan, but I happened to watch this fight as I was helping the kid fight off a fever...and I agree that the headbutt appeared to be more Rahman's fault..

but it was interesting to see how fast that thing blew up on his head..it was the size of a golf ball after about 5 seconds..

2002-06-02 01:00:07 PM
Ok, the funny part here is that Holyfield kept hitting him on the bump after it started developing and you could see it grow in realtime. I have to say it was hilarious the way that thing looked and it should seriously be a photoshop consideration.

Will some of you boxing fans explain why you keep saying the Lewis-Tyson fight will suck?

As far as I know, Tyson is a good boxer, and so is Lewis? What will make it a bad fight?

I *really* thought that photo above was doctored (well the first one)..... holy crap! I went to ESPN (same photo) and they are calling it a "knot above his eye." A knot? I know women with smaller breast implants!

2002-06-02 01:21:46 PM
It was so nice of him to thank god for giving him the power to beat the shait out of his opponant, and probably sending him to the hospital.

2002-06-02 01:23:54 PM
Tyson is old and washed up. I'm more interested in his pre and post fight interviews than watching him fight.

2002-06-02 01:38:50 PM
Rahman shoulda bit Evander's ear....no, the OTHER one.

2002-06-02 01:48:44 PM
Check out his ear, looks like he has a touch of Romulan heritage.

2002-06-02 01:48:49 PM

I think I saw this guy on Star Trek once. I remember the ears.

2002-06-02 01:48:49 PM
The way Holyfield assaulted Tyson's teeth with his ear was despicable!
Tyson lost his hunger many many years ago. Lewis isn't even English - my mum should be heavyweight champion!

2002-06-02 01:50:26 PM
Doh! 5 seconds, Halpas!

2002-06-02 02:47:55 PM
The thing I detest about Holyfield is how he runs around praising God for this and that, and yet he has enough illegitimate children to field a baseball team.

"Blessed are the hypocrites". BigJoel 16:9

Mex, Tyson is not so much a good boxer as he is a good fighter. He's strong, mean, tough and fearless. If he had a trainer who could keep him in line he might be a champion again, but the only man who could do that wants nothing to do with Tyson now.

2002-06-02 03:47:42 PM
This was shaping up to be a good fight. Holyfield proved he hasn't lost much, considering that he is 39 years old. The headbutt was accidental; it was actually more Rahman's fault than Holyfield's. To say that Holyfield is a dirty fighter is asinine. Proves who the boxing fans are. Stick to Soccer. :P

Also, I think that the Tyson-Lewis fight will be a good one. I (for some reason) believe that Tyson will win. Not a fan of either, but if Tyson can stay focused and not go crazy, I think he'll hurt Lewis. I live about 90 miles from Memphis, and would love to see the fight, if only I had a few extra thousand dollars for tickets.

And Testicleus, Have you ever seen Holyfields neck? He's got the strongest neck in boxing. Thats why he takes puches so well. IMHO

2002-06-02 03:48:50 PM
Continuing Flakeloaf's post, I think Lewis has too much of a height and reach advantage over Tyson. It will be like an older brother keeping his kid brother out of reach while he slaps him around.

2002-06-02 04:35:32 PM
Jeez another accidental headbutt from Evander Holyfield. He better be careful one day he'll get in the ring with some one crazy who won't take kindly to that.

2002-06-02 04:39:53 PM
It was the nastiest looking thing, Holyfield farked him up with a headbut followed by right hander to the dome. A few secs later you could see the bump, but the next round Holyfield really farked him up and thats when it started to look like a blimp...

2002-06-02 06:21:00 PM
Ok sick question, but what the hell is in that thing? Puss? Do they have to pop that or what the hell is that thing? That is the grossest picture short of rotten_com

2002-06-02 06:55:28 PM
Quick sum-up of fight: Great fight, unfortunate ending. I really wanted the old man to put Rahman on the mat.

2002-06-02 07:02:50 PM
I submitted it as a photoshop yesterday but I guess it didn't make it. :(

Seems every time a boxing related thread comes up people say stuff like "Tyson has no chance, Lewis has too much height/reach".

Saying the other fighter is taller doesn't mean anything, almost everyone Tyson fights is taller than him (he's between 5'10" and 5'11")

Everyone knows the biggest threat to Lewis is someone getting a lucky shot to his weak chin, this combined with their proportions can make the height difference an advantage for Tyson

Reach is one thing and can help Lewis keep Tyson at a distance and try to frustrate him but Tyson knows his best chance is to charge in letting Lewis's high shots bounce off the top of his head as much as he can, get in close and do a lot of body shots hoping Lewis will drop his hands to defend and give Tyson a shot as his chin.

Since most people seem to agree the most likely way Lewis can lose is taking a lucky chin shot and ko, and the most likely way Tyson can lose is getting frustrated and losing focus, or just going crazy on his own, I don't see how anyone can claim it's obvious who will win one way or another.

2002-06-03 01:30:25 AM
Well let's put it this way: How likely is Lewis to give up a lucky shot? Uh-huh.... now think about how likely Tyson is to lose it.

2002-06-03 07:36:25 PM
Tyson's not a good boxer, he's too short and has short reach to be an outside man. He's built to be a brawler or a counter-puncher, but he doesn't do either of those well either.

What Tyson is good at is dipping into incredible amounts of primal energy for nearly unstoppable flurries of hard punches. That, plus his reputation, puts opponents off their game, they make mistakes, take one too many, and wake up the next day with another notch in the loss column.

Tyson got that reputation by fighting a lot of knuckleheads who were nowhere near his level. Times have changed, though, and the elite of the heavyweight division are smarter and in better shape than they were seven years ago when Tyson was active.

If Lewis can protect his chin and stay smart, Tyson's got no chance. But I'll be suprised to see the fight end conventionally (T/KO or decision). Tyson's either going to knock Lewis out or do something crazy again.
