A guy once tried to feed my cat a steamed carrot, and had his face eaten off.
It took like half an hour, he was all thrashing about going "augghhh augghhh, why god why!?!" and making other noises that only someone in the process of having their face eaten off can make.
I was about to help him, but then I remembered you aren't supposed to interrupt pets while they're eating.

2002-06-02 12:44:55 AM
Seems like the most radical PETA members would be totally against having animals as pets in the first place....

2002-06-02 12:47:45 AM
If I gave my cats trailmix, they would kick my ass when I was asleep, if they didn't flat out kill me, and then EAT ME.

.....Hey yeah, I read it, but it didn't seem to mention PETA, cause that would be like a cop telling you it's proper etiquette to extend the pinky while stabbing some one in the head

PETA is really trying hard to justify their existence. Remember what the E stands for? Ethical? Is it unethical of me to feed my dog steak and ALPO? Fark no.

Thanks for the link VeggieGuy, but I said I didn't think the gov't regualtors would allow it. As your post says, they didn't and forced the company to stop when they found out.

I'm sure there are greedy farks out there that would pump their cows full of anabolics if they can get away with it. I just said I don't think its allowed, not that it doesn't happen.

I sometimes take care of a friends 150 lb Newfoundland and would just visit the dog twice a day to feed him and let him out. This dog is spoiled and will only eat canned dog food. One time I was reaching into the pantry for a can of dog food and almost grabbed a can of refried beans instead! Good thing I caught that snafu before it became a hazmat situation.

According to this article, dogs and cats like pure foods. Foods with no additives or chemicals or other crap. Their food must be pretty pure. In fact it only includes...

TAURINE, ARACHIDONIC ACID, ARGANINE, DL-METHIONINE, L-CARNITINE, DRIED LACTOBACILLUS ACIDOPHILUS FERMENTATION PRODUCT, DRIED BIFIDOBACTERIUM BIFIDUM FERMENTATION PRODUCT, LYSINE, GARLIC, CHOLINE CHLORIDE, ZINC OXIDE, FERROUS SULFATE, VITAMIN A ACETATE, VITAMIN D2 SUPPLEMENT, NIACIN, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, MANGANOUS OXIDE, FERROUS SULFATE, VITAMIN B-12 SUPPLEMENT, THIAMIN MONONITRATE, KELP MEAL, MENADIONE SODIUM BISULFITE COMPLEX, FOLIC ACID, RIBOFLAVIN SUPPLEMENT (VITAMIN B-2), INOSITOL, BIOTIN, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE, CALCIUM IODATE, SODIUM SELENITE, ZINC METHIONINE COMPLEX, COPPER LYSINE COMPLEX, MANGANESE METHIONINE COMPLEX, COBALT GUCOHEPTONATE.

By evolution, of course wolves have gone from meals of freshly killed mammals to Thiamin mononitrate.

My dog likes to eat rabbit shait on occasion, which is essentally, processed vegetables. Are the above ingrediants part of rabbit shait?

If somebody could find an ingrediant list for rabbit shait, please post it.

Maybe we're all missing the point.

Let's assume, for argument's sake that cats "were meant" to be carnivores. Then, I'd also argue that cats "were meant" to be wild.
If cats were still wild, there would be far fewer of them, as they would be prey just as much as they would be predators. So, their impact on nature would be negligible.
Humans "created" cats as a domestic animal, and allowed cats to proliferate to such a degree that feeding them has a significant impact on the environment, and results in otherwise unnecessary deaths of other animals.

The point would be: for the sake of the planet, maybe humans shouldn't have pets in the first place.

My dogs love their veggies. They especially love puking them up on me while I'm asleep in bed in the middle of the night (er, day in my case). Especially carrots and water chestnuts.

And yes, we learned long long ago not to feed them crap like that. Dogs get dog food and bread and dog treats. And anything I happen to be eating that they haven't previously thrown up on me and that isn't chocolate. Oh, and things that are know to cause severe dog farts are also not allowed.

Oh, and as a side note, I recently read that onions are very very bad for dogs. So no onions for the dogs. No idea if it's true or not, but why take chances? It's not like the dogs sit there and whine about a lack of onions in their diet.

Dogs can actually survive on a veggie diet. Cats, on the other hand, cannot.

We feed our kids either kibble with meat as the #1 ingredient, or we half have them on the BARF diet.

And yes, some of the meat in some pet foods comes from cats and dogs that were euthanized at shelters. And some of it does come from roadkill. And yes, some of it is "dirty" meat.

2002-06-02 01:11:59 AM
Silly vegans, everybody knows that dogs love bacon. If it wasn't true it wouldn't say that on the package, now would it?

2002-06-02 01:13:19 AM
Ruphus would rather eat a PETA rep than listen to one (good boy).

He'll eat around veggies in leftover beef stew, & always picks them off of hamburgers, etc.

Apex: Starving babies is one action - the tense of the verb 'to be' must agree with the tense and number of the verb 'to starve'. Grammar in the headline is correct.

[ open on Hank Petchow running through the snow with his dog Shep ]

Hank Petchow: Come on, Shep! Here we go!

Voiceover: Like most dog owners, I really enjoy playing with my dog.

[ cut to interior, Petchow household ]

Hank Petchow: Hi! I'm Hank Petchow. I love my dog, and I love taking care of him. But as much as I like feeding ol' Shep here every morning, there's some animals I'd rather not feed - rodents, mice, rats. I hate them. That's why I developed this. Petchow Brand Rat Poison. Petchow's the only rat poison deadly enough to carry my name - Petchow. And Petchow's the most powerful rat poison on the market. In fact, it's so strong, it could easily kill an animal much larger than any rat you'll ever see - instant. And rats love Petchow's big meaty pieces. [ Shep jumps up to the bowl of rat poison ] Whoa, no, Shep! That's rat poison! [ moves Shep ] Just add water for a hearty poison gravy that no rat can resist. He'll be dead on the spot. Right, Shep? [ Shep barks and moves closer to the rat poison gravy ] Whoa, Shep! Down, boy, that's not for you! [ laughs ] So, if rats are your problem, choose a name you can trust. Petchow. Just look for the rat poison with a picture of ol' Shep on it.

[ show two dogs sitting on each side of the Petchow package ]

Jingle: "Petchow. Arf arf. Petchow. Arf arf. Petchow. Arf arf. Rat poison."

Announcer: Petchow. The one they can't resist.

Hmmmm, I keep reptiles. I have never seen vegetarian python food. Granted most of what they eat are vegetarians in and of them selves. Still, if I tried to shove a carrot down my pythons throat it would take it, and then my arm. The only thing these PETA people are good for is python food. I say to them; At least my food has a chance to run. Sick bastards eating poor defensless veggies like that. What, it's ok for them to bury them halfway in the ground before they are ready to eat them? Just makes me ill.

2002-06-02 01:22:26 AM
Puh-lease. This crap has been out for a while; I guess it jus hit mainstream.

2002-06-02 01:27:21 AM
Critical Mass for some reason you saying "granted most of what they eat are vegetarians" reminded me of one of my better moments.
As part of a larger discussion (about an urban legend about crabbing with dead bodies in the bayou), I raised the question "If I eat a crab that ate a person am I a cannibal?"
The answer from my good friend Casey was, "Not anymore than eating a cow makes you a vegetarian." Damn, I miss working with that guy.

2002-06-02 01:27:26 AM
I grew up on a Dairy Farm and we never feed our cows any animal proteins. We don't use the dreaded "milk hormone" that received so much press in the past either. I did work on another farm when I was going to school though, and they used both the hormones, AND they fed their cows "Bone Meal"... which was basically just ground up, powdery, dead cow bones. Pretty gross really. But I still say that a dog (or cat) is not meant to eat steamed broccoli.

2002-06-02 01:29:15 AM
To make this short and sweet: Dogs may adapt to eating a non-meat die; cats will suffer from a non-meat diet.

For further explanation:
Can you feed dogs and cats a vegetarian diet?

IMHO, some go too far with their beliefs.

2002-06-02 01:31:24 AM
Dogs are supposed to eat meat. It was the way god intended it to be. Sure, you can feed your dog a vegan diet, but where's the fun in that? There's none of that exciting feeling that revolves around picking up an dead animal with your jaws and ripping to shreds in a wild feeding frenzy. Instead of that, these farkholes think that dogs should eat steaed carrots and tofu (probably). Now excuse me, but ripping carrots to shreds isn't as fun as ripping beef to shreds.

Oh, and another thing. All these hardcore vegan-ers think that eating meat is wrong. Now, tell me if I'm wrong, but didn't our ancient ancestors eat mammoths and other assorted ice age varieties to survive? If people hadn't ever touched meat, how the heck would humans have survived, let alone be the dominant species?

ByteBark: To play Devil's advocate for a second, their gripe is not that we ate meat long ago at one time or another, but rather that in our current level of society, eating meat is no longer a necessity. Personally, I believe if it eats grass, then BBQ it up and stick a fork in it.

Just thought I should clear that up for you.

2002-06-02 01:38:29 AM
Yes, humans have historically eaten animals. But now that the human brain has evolved to the point that it has has allowed us to overtake the planet, it's time for us to use that very same brain to realize that must step away from our meat-eating habits, for the sake of the planet.

I found this at petfooddirect.com:

8 in 1 Deter Coprophagia Treatment for Dogs
If your dog is displaying not-so-discriminating-taste, discourage the habit-forming tendency to consume feces. Studies have shown that using this product is up to 98% effective in stopping this disturbing behavior! These chewable tabs, formulated with natural vegetable extract, are taste-appealing, and safe to feed to dogs of all ages - including puppies!
Package: 60 tablets

So basically, to cure feces eating, feed your dog "natural vegetable extract". ha ha

Hmmmmm... people seem to like feeding their dogs meat. According to the site, dogs prefer eating plants.
solution:
the Boca Burger!! "The meatless burger that makes meat eaters salivate and vegetarians celebrate."

I want to find a PETA person who does not use leather shoes, road asphault, rubber car tires, and drywall. All contain cow parts.

2002-06-02 02:01:42 AM

That's odd. There is also an all meat pet diet that claims nutritional superiority over the commercial grain based pet foods.

They push these freeze dried RAW meat patties for dogs and cats. Mmmmm look like waffles.......

Foaming, That is kind of stupid. Your argument is akin to suggesting that smokers may as well shoot smack and have unsafe sex while eating raw red meat.
You're suggesting that someone who avoids animal products should just give up because they can't do it 100 percent? Silly!

Anyway, I'm one of those hipocrate vegans, but until my cat, living in his unnatural evironment, asks for my carrots over his processed animal product he will not be a vegan, a macrobiotic, a breatarian or a mormon.

Now I can't wait to hear what I spelled wrong! Woo HOO!
