...go on...

2006-03-19 10:58:48 AM
Great! With 50 more years of this and the spending of the Bush Administration, our entire GNP will be paying the interest alone of the national debt. Then Halliburton and the other fine multinationals themselves can take over the bankrupt government, keeping me safe from the boogeyman.

This editorial is just beating America over the head with stuff it already knows. This editorial reminds me of the greatest quote in movie history:

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

staplermofo: sneaks up behind Lionel Mandrake and marries him

so that's what they're calling it these days....

2006-03-19 11:17:02 AM
And no matter how many times the Administration's b.s. is pointed out, millions of idiots will still defend its ridiculous and un-American policies.

Visit the U.S. National Debt Clock

From the article:

This document reiterates the pre-emption policy, warning that "we are in the early years of a long struggle" like the Cold War.

One asks if its authors foresee a 50- year struggle against Iran?

How can any intelligent person reconcile the debt numbers with the strategy?

2006-03-19 11:41:37 AM
But wait, it won't cost a thing! Let's hand out tax breaks!

How would it play if the Democratic nominee ran on a platform of, well, things are really farked up and we now have to pay. Higher taxes, fiscal responsibility to get us out of this hole.

I think the public wants to hear it.

2006-03-19 11:59:33 AM
on the bright side, 60% of our governemnt employees are old enough to retire, which means a large wave of fresh blood in the near to immediate future.

I got to the Paris byline and stopped...When the French cities are no longer burning at the hands of "students", I'll hear them out.

Fool_Marquis: on the bright side, 60% of our governemnt employees are old enough to retire, which means a large wave of fresh blood in the near to immediate future.

And we'll have to raise the national debt even further to pay for all those retirees ... ;-D

2006-03-19 12:02:10 PM
And if you want to talk about the deficit, let's get this out of the way early...is it the spending that bothers you?

2006-03-19 12:05:01 PM
Call me when you all get done with your anti-Bush back-patting/circle-jerk. I gotta run to the store to buy the 300 gallons of Windex needed to clean up the aftermath.

2006-03-19 12:05:12 PM
If I have $10 in my pocket for the week (thinking back to my college days), I'm not going to the supermarket to buy a steak. I'm not going to put groceries on a credit card. I'm going for Ramen and a 2 liter bottle of Coke.

2006-03-19 12:06:28 PM
Go with store brand cola, then you can get a 3 liter!

2006-03-19 12:07:39 PM
And if you want to talk about the deficit, let's get this out of the way early...is it the spending that bothers you?Cutting taxes + higher spending = teh stoopid
Cutting taxes + more fixed medical stuff = teh economic suicide

There is going to be a correction in our spending practices, it just doesn't look like Pres Bush is going to be the one who does it.

God help everyone if the next President decides he also wants to spend money like there's no tomorrow.

2006-03-19 12:07:46 PM
And of course the Billdozer is here to play devils advocate for the administration. No searing refutation of why this policy is a bad idea, just alot of accusations that "you hate bush for everything...blah blah.... chimpy mcflightsuit...blah blah"

2006-03-19 12:08:21 PM
Hanky: I'm going for Ramen and a 2 liter bottle of Coke.

You still would have enough for the rum to mix into the Coke.

2006-03-19 12:08:21 PM

The good news: Bush is only in office for 2 more years, and then he's outta here.

Bad news x2: After he's out, we'll get to see the real long term effects of all his policies, and at the moment it looks like there's no good candidate from any party to replace him (although any person at this point should be an easy upgrade).

2006-03-19 12:08:56 PM
Whoa whoa whoa. The rest of the world doesn't like us?

2006-03-19 12:09:29 PM
So how is a national debt limit supposed to work when they can just vote to move it up? I thought it was supposed to be something that was permanent so we couldn't get ourselves in the trouble that we are now.

Dancin_In_Anson: And if you want to talk about the deficit, let's get this out of the way early...is it the spending that bothers you?

Of course not. It never bothered them before; it only bothers them because 1) It's W who is doing the spending and 2) the media screams about it enough that the talking point got drilled into their skulls.

I think our decifit is bad, but I'm realistic about it.

I heard NPR doing a thing on this document. It really sounds (from memory) like they took the letter for the Iraq invasion, took off the q and added the n. Now, despite what your belief of the politics of this is, ask yourself, how on earth could we go to war with Iran, which I quarantee you will be worse than Iraq, with the army we have?

/Because, you know, "You go to war with the army you have, not the army you want."

Why, becasue people on here do hate W for everything? The guy could cure cancer and AIDS, even every war on the planet, create cold fusion, and give everyone a million dollars, and people would still biatch and complain about not having new siding on their brand pool house.

Dancin_In_Anson: And if you want to talk about the deficit, let's get this out of the way early...is it the spending that bothers you?

Since I don't have the patience for you to dramatically reveal your silly argument piece by piece, let me jump ahead:

Your point is that massive spending cuts are needed to balance the budget, so let's offer up some social programs.

It's complete horseshiat, of course. Anyone who looks at a deficit that was almost entirely created by irresponsible tax cuts and enormous military spending and then says "well we'll have to cut public health care to put us back in the black!" is too far gone to be able to contribute anything to this debate.

2006-03-19 12:13:49 PM
"on the bright side, 60% of our governemnt employees are old enough to retire, which means a large wave of fresh blood in the near to immediate future."

What makes you think the next batch will be any better than this one?

Fu-u-u-u-u-u-uccccccckkkkk

I swear I got the shakes nowdays, I can't handle it man...

Hell, last thing I read was a Reader's Digest. In addition to this now, that had two articles of interest.

One: an article on health care costs, how it's in an upwards spiral and what you can count on is:

--your insurance will take your premium like clockwork, then SURPRISE, there'll be something they don't cover when you need them.
--doctors are sick of being second guessed by accountants and lawyers (hm, originally spelled that as "accountaints". Paging Dr. Freud...)
--People who think they have insurance are finding themselves shiat out of luck when they get the bill
(hell, my company just rejiggered its insurance plan when it got acquired by a multinational. In the conference call, the corporate broad kept saying "Yes, $former_company_name offered some very exceptional benefits, and...", and we knew we were about to get cheated.)

Second article, on jury trials.
More precisely, the rigging of jury trials by "trial consultants".

For example, got a complex case with tons of forensics? And you're the defense attorney?

Stack the deck with CSI fans. Because no matter what the real evidence is, it won't match their expectations. Invoke "reasonable doubt", and turn em loose, Bruce. It gets better from there.

Now, of course, more evidence that our chief executive is a retard.

2006-03-19 12:14:37 PM
The Billdozer: the media screams about it enough that the talking point got drilled into their skulls.

So uncontrolled spending and record deficits are now merely "talking points"?

Ahem, if you would pull your head out of your ass, you'd see that intelligent farkers hate him for very specific, and valid reasons. Yet you latch on to the replies of desperate little trolls who make with the one liners, then use that as a pathetic way to dismiss any and all arguments against this current administration. If the people screeching "Chimpy McFlighsuit" are being insincere and intellectually dishonest, then so are you by lumping them in with those farkers that use solid reasoning in thier dislike of this administration.

Bush is no mental midget, as much as some of you might want you to think. He WANTS you to think he's stupid. But that is so you can underestimate him.

That editorial seems as 'boilerplate' and 'cliche' ridden as the document it is trying to riducule.

My opinion is that he is trying to plant seeds of modern society in the middle east. At some point the oil is going to run out and/or alternative energies will cut off their cash cow of oil.

Their choices at that point will be:
1- Remain living in the year 1200 and go back to exporting rugs (an exaggeration, but you get the idea).
2- Join the rest of the world and have productive civilizations.

If they pick #1, then their rulers will no longer have the money and clout to keep the populations down (ie Saddam), and the entire area will descend into chaos (ie Haiti).

Remember, OPEC is already putting out feelers for financial aid once the oil monopoly is over....

even every war on the planet, i think you meant to win every war; at least he des a great job at creating wars

create cold fusion, unlikely to support any energy not linked to oil or nu-cu-laar

and give everyone a million dollars, he has done this for the top 1% of income earners

Mmm. Keep going with that analogy. That works for a week or two, but try it for several years on end. (I've been in college too, so don't pull that card.)

What'll happen? I'll tell you what'll happen, you'll suffer from malnutrition. Too much salt, too much sugar, not enough anything else, and it'll cost you ten times as much in medical bills to fix.

Of course, Bush's answer is "I have ten dollars. I'm going to give one dollar back to the person who gave me the ten-won't he be happy-and go to eat at Ruth's Chris. Who's going to pick up the check? Who cares? We can't allow ourselves to be tyrannized by foreign noodles."

I think the IHT (the paper that published the opinion) is playing the part of the teacher in your quote:

i don't usually say things as blunt as "you're wrong", but well, you are. The administration pissed a lot of people off by doing things that were genuinely bad ideas. I just spent a few seconds trying to think of something he did that gives me a single iota respect for him, but everything he's done that comes to mind fails spectacularly in this. If he ever does anything praiseworthy then most (though certainly, not all) of bush's antagonists be quick to give him credit, but it seems we'll be waiting a while for this.

No, he's stupid. Any brains he might have had were wiped away by drug usage. You cannot listen to him speak and think he's an intelligent man.

He happens to be surrounded by a group of people much more intelligent than him.

Bullshait. Complete, utter, bullshait. The only people have seen put up calculated and logical arguments against W are conservatives or libertarians. I haven't seen liberal one who has put up a sound, logical and reason argument against the main. When it comes down to it, liberals go on the attack because they don't have anything of substance or importance to say and if they do, it gets drowned out. Your typical liberal "intellecual" is your Bill Mahar-types who are touted as being cutting edge or witty but when it comes down to it, has no respect for anything that brushes up harshly against his comfortable world views.

Trust me, the liberal mindset was summed up pretty well when Richard Belzer proclaimed that our soliders were just a bunch of un-college educated nitwits that were dying for nothing and since they didn't have time to read multitude of newspapers every day, they were not the best people to ask about war, even though back in '04 liberals stood on their soapboxes and proclaimed to Heaven above that John Kerry had seen war and since those images were burned into his memory, he is the best person on planet Earth to lead the nation's military. http://newsbusters.org/node/4503

You know what, I feel silly. I had been reading what you were saying carefully, thinking you were trying to have a debate here. This passage makes it abundantly clear that you're just trolling, and ripping a page right out of Coulter's book ("no liberal has ever said anything smart!").
