Well that is just spiffy. What is next marrying your pet?

Most of them live on welfare because they can't afford to keep themselves up. Screw polygamists...

If we had an excess of women then I'd have no problem with it.

I think only ugly chicks should be allowed into polygamous marriages. That way it all evens out. I mean, the average Joe marries a what, a 6? An 8 if they're lucky? So if another dude married three 2's, or three 3's even (trust me, it's not additive), what's the harm then?

2006-03-17 07:31:50 PM
Polygamists are sick. They should just get a mistress like decent Americans.

2006-03-17 07:32:02 PM
Oh great, the jackasses who can't grasp the difference between consenting adults and animals/children/the retarded/etc. are already here.

I'm sure you've had this explained to you before, walkingtall. Perhaps you should get checked out for learning disabilities.

I wonder how often the women get it on with each other? That would be my condition.

2006-03-17 07:33:18 PM
I have enough trouble with one wife.

2 or 3 spending my money like there's no tomorrow? I would have to kill myself 2 or 3 times...

I just want one, you greedy motherfarkers......

/// That is all I have to say on the topic.

The ultimate goal for rational educated Americans is to remove the concept of marriage from the government altogether.

Certain groups--the uneducated, poor, and religious--use government marriage as a way to improve their lot or enforce their misguided moral principles.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Society--even the most disgusting portions--are slowly coming around and seeing that marriage is unnecessary in modern society. That it belongs with witches, unicorns, and other lore and mythology in churches, not in or endorsed by government institutions.

Our fight is not in vain. We can take back the country from the stupid, selfish, and superstitious. It will take some work, but we are already seeing gains.

What about women with multiple husbands?

2006-03-17 07:38:43 PM
Hmmm... I would want multiple husbands.

One for income, one for nookie, and one to maintain the house.

I could go for that.

This should be fun...

Sorry. Unlike homosexuality, the majority of polygamous relationships in the western world are also abusive relationships.

Look up any of the fringe Mormon cults who engage in the practice of making young women into 'spiritual brides' if you need an example.

If that were to change, yeah, You could make a case for legal polygamy. It's not gonna happen for a long time. Until then, the tiny minory of people who have healthy polygamous relationships are going to have to deal with being in a tiny minority. No social or legal benefits for you guys.

If three people want to live/love together and mutually consent to do so, then the rest of society should get the fark out of their face. And bedroom.

Let's take this in another direction. over population. It's my personal belief that after a couple has 2 kids (if they even decide to have 2 kids) they should both be sterilized. Keeps the population even and random darwinism will slowly widdle down the population to a healthy level. Triplets and other such occurances will just have to be met with a shrug of the head and a one way trip to the snipper for both parents. That said, polygamy just screws my whole idea up.
/make sure everyone gets at least one before you go back for seconds greedy polygamists!

Whenever people say something like this I can't help but assume they're projecting.

Fark these people... if there are no same sex marriages allowed, then why would we be willing to stretch the boundaries of marriage laws for this shiat? It is ridiculous. If homosexuality is a trait people are born with and our government refuses to accept that, then why should Abraham be allowed have 10 wives because of religious beliefs?

In addition to the other thoughts above, we also dislike this idea of the one size fits all marriage pact.

Where the fark is the contract termination date? Escape clause? Ability to amend the agreement?

Dumb people do not agree with us yet. Probably because they are too stupid to understand.

We will have our day though. The stupid cannot run everything forever. Nor do they want to do so. It prevents them from attending their cultural pursuits: watching "American Idol" and "Jerry Springer."

Put down the crack pipe and hopefully someday you can join the rest of humanity on this trip called "life". No such thing will ever happen. Ancient Greece tried this with men only marrying for procreation but having their real relationships outside the marriage with every kind of scenario you can think of and the Romans tried the same thing etc. Marriage is a good thing when done right. It raises healthy children and gives society a stable foundation and helps to contain the nasty horrible monsters that live within us all so we can try to live together. Anarchists like you will hopefully never get a strong foothold or this world is truly lost.

Did you watch that documentary about polygamy in southern Utah on the Discovery Times channel too? Those were some pretty sad stories.

Bea Arthur's Nuts

They are saying that polygamy is no more an evil than gay marriage is. The reasoning appears to be something like this: People should be allowed to have gay marriage because it's what they want and it doesn't harm anyone, and people should be allowed to have polygamous marriage because it's what they want and it doesn't harm anyone.

Would you rather have those with no resources or education producing all the children? Somehow I don't think that will solve the problems associated with overpopulation.

I don't give a shiat about the emotional/spiritual aspect of marriage, but what about the legal rights that a marriage affords someone?

I can't speak to the views of Mormons on gay marriage. I was referring to the proponents of legalized polygamy pointing out the parallel between the two cases.

I'm not talking about voluntary sterilization. I'm talking about when the woman comes in to have the baby you wait until she's asleep and zap her groinal region with some mild radiation. If the husband is in there too you can get them both at the same time. Granted this will lead to all sorts of underground birthings and such but I'll let the next guy worry about that.

2006-03-17 07:55:41 PM
Because marriage has always been about property and inheritance rights it means that polyagmy will never be legal. All it does is complicate the reason marriage exists.

/Yes, brides used to be "property".

Not at all... at least that wasn't my intent. I'm with the other posters who thinks that the government and religion should damn well get out of peoples' bedrooms and private lives.

Unfortunately, for the healthy polygamists out there, they have a far larger stigma to overcome before they can even begin to start looking for more recognition. In the West, and the US in particular, 'Polygamy' has been used as a euphamism for having a harem of underage girls too many times. That's going to be a tough nut to crack. Real polygamsists certainly aren't going to get anything like financial benefits or medical insurance until they do. Maybe not even then.

Perhaps 'Big Love' will help them out quite a bit by portraying a healthy polygamous relationship to a public hungry for a new stereotype.

Note that in some other cultures around the world, even some that are considered highly conservative and religous, polygamy is the norm rather than the exception. I understand that there is a popular Soap Opera in Kuwait that deals with the relationship of a man and his three wives.

Another factor to consider is the social pressures inherent in coupling. In areas where war and famine are more common, the balance between men and women can shift rapidly over a single generation, making polygamy necessary.

This was *Almost* the case in the U.S. during and after WWII. A HUGE percentage of baby boomers... around 10% depending on region... are the product of extra-marital affairs.

It's not like polygamy doesn't happen. Western minds aren't ready to accept it... yet.

2006-03-17 07:55:57 PM
The Mormon's views on gay non-marriage aren't all that progressive either. Ask my roomate, an ex-mormon who gets stalked by the conversion squad.

2006-03-17 07:56:35 PM
Mormons do not defend gay marriage. They seek to prevent it. Of course, today's polygamists are not really mormons.
