clagsniper: i could see a fire the other side of the I-4 from my hotel balcony (orlando) and burning leaves were landing on the car park along with huge ash clouds hanging aroud the area

I was driving down I-4 minutes before they closed it for weeks. The fire had jumped into the median and there were little flames everywhere. Driving through the smoke was the weirdest atmosphere I've ever seen. Pretty cool, really.

Now all that's left to do is to push the ashes out to sea.

/God, you have no idea how much I hate it here.

The Ocala Hooters isn't a destination it is a sad little oasis in the middle of some of the finest and most boring horse breeding areas in the US.

Hores Farming, that's it. I knew it was something.

Boring? Ever been to Sneads? Two Egg? Blountstown? North Florida OWNS boredom, buddy.

God, you have no idea how much I hate it here.

Sure we do. It's nearly as much as we do having you here.

And who can forget that wonderful little town known as Yeehaw Junction? It's great for a day trip. Love that, and Ft. Lonesome, too.

Forsythe P. Jones: Love that,and Ft. Lonesome,too

I remember driving once down I-75, running out of gas, and frantically waiting for something to show up. I got to the exit for Ft. Lonesome and figured, well this is my only chance. The town was still miles away.

Got there, to my relief there was one gas station in town with those old dial pumps. Ft. Lonesome had everything I needed.

I spend a lot of time working in Indiantown, but they have two gas stations.

My wife and her mom got lost there once, in really dense fog after getting off the turnpike.

Goddamn, people are stupid.

Native Floria plants are designed to burn. Their bark is coated with a waxy covering (forget what it's called) that is there to protect the plants from the numerous natural fires that occur in the area, due to lightening and what not. Florida's ecology used this technique for years to keep itself free of non-native plants, until people started bringing them in on purpose, putting out fires, and screwing with the system.

Yeah but nowadays with so many subdivisions being built, prescribed burns are hard to carry out in the remaining areas of natural ecosystems, and firemen will put out a fire near houses. So they don't burn for years, and the fuel accumulates, and then the fires get out of control and everything dies. We had peat fires back in 1998, I think, those things were impossible to put out and burned for a long time.

You're right, people are stupid.

It's really funny watching people who have never lived in Florida try to justify why they like their own location better.

Face it: There are just as many stupid people where you live, if not more.

/used to live in SW Florida, now live in Seattle
//people think they're smarter here but they aren't
///if they were really smart they'd go somewhere with nicer weather

OK all you Florida haters, just remember this: 90% of the time our weather is better than yours, so suck it.

Brilliant scheme.....Florida! Set fires and burn just enough to discourage the yankees and make them go back to New York....then Florida will be free again.
