10 billion Mexican Barrels = 1,525 American Barrels.

It's the exchange rate that kills them.

2006-03-15 10:44:07 AM
yay! cheap gas!

2006-03-15 10:44:19 AM
So, wouldn't most of those fields then belong to Venezuela? They are the people with the most oil rigs in the gulf, after all.

This is a great opportunity for US corporations to go there illegally and get that oil. Someone has to go across the border to do the jobs most Mexicans wont do. Like get rich and stuff.

/I'm talking 'bout oil son

2006-03-15 10:46:41 AM
eastern pacific coastal waters=lots of oil

2006-03-15 10:46:56 AM

So if they can revamp their economy, will their citizens stop their infiltration of our border with the full support of the Mexican goverment?

2006-03-15 10:49:23 AM
How can it stop illegal immigration when most of them are already here?

In 20 years we will be trying to sneak across the border into mexico

2006-03-15 10:51:40 AM
The US already gets 10% of its oil from Mexico. I'm unconvinced this will mean significant changes.

2006-03-15 10:51:58 AM
Maybe Mexico can start paying back the U.S. for its citizens' welfare and schooling in oil?

"This number, compared with annual production of 1.6 billion barrels of crude, shows its strategic importance," Ramirez said, adding that crude oil production at Noxal likely won't begin for eight to 10 years.

Ummm, why so long? Oh wait, this is Mexico and Mexicans are lazy, right? Come on, that's just a stereotype, right? Right?

I work for the Mexican oil industry. So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies. Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about.

But trust me.... You don't.

I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you don't know what you are talking about. This is how bad info gets passed around. If you don't know about the topic....Don't make yourself sound like you do.

Cause some Americans will believe anything they read.

Oily Mexicans.

2006-03-15 10:54:51 AM
When we retaliate for the illegal immigration, liberals will claim its a war for oil now.

Of course, Montezuma will win in the end. He always does when Mexico is involved.

And a question...If this is true, when are all the illegal immigrants gonna scurry back to take the new oil jobs? They would work for far cheaper than OPEC employees, thereby lowering the price of gas to that of lawncare.

2006-03-15 10:55:13 AM
Hooray!
Now gas prices will be cut in half and the terr'ists will disappear!

they just found the source. It will take years to build the facilities to extract it.

Sure, it's a lot of oil, but how much will it cost to get it out of the ground?
This is the thing that many people don't understand about the oil industry. There really is a lot of oil in the ground, and new supplies get found every now and then, but sometimes it costs more to get. The reason the middle east produces so much of the world's oil supply is not only because they have a lot of oil in the ground, but also because it is relatively cheap to access.

2006-03-15 11:00:51 AM
The sudden increase in oil supplies will create a need for more refineries to be built along the Gulf Coast. The high cost of building refineries should cause a sudden rise in oil prices.

Just a hunch.

Pump out the barrels!
Pump out the barrels of crude!
Pump out the barrels!
Pump out the barrels of crude!
Pump out the barrels!
Pump out the barrels of crude!
We're gonna pump out the barrels!
Now the A-rabs are screwed!

If this field really holds 10 billion barrels, that's 120 days of global petroleum usage...give or take a couple of days. Four months.

2006-03-15 11:04:15 AM
Blink: So this means ... ? Gas prices are going up, right?

Course it does.

Oops, the Saudi king sneezed. Better jack oil prices up a few more dollars.

2006-03-15 11:04:25 AM
Reason for the bombing?

Weapons of ASS Destruction....

2006-03-15 11:05:14 AM
To put this in perspective, this field - if it's as big as claimed - amounts to about 4 months of world usage.

You are so wrong. The sudden rise will be attributable to the flapping of a butterfly's wings in India.

2006-03-15 11:06:48 AM
Huge?

10 billion barrels = approx. 15 months of American consumption at current rate.

2006-03-15 11:06:49 AM
The good news is, after we bomb them, Mexico can plunge into civil war.

The Saudi's are sitting on around 261 billion barrels. Mexico's new 10 billion isn't globally significant.

2006-03-15 11:08:14 AM
...or what robobagpiper said.

2006-03-15 11:08:59 AM
Just a thought: Would it take more or less of the energy available in this oil field, using present technology, to build all the infrastructure necessary to get it out of the ground?

Someone sit down and figure that out, because I don't have time right now.

2006-03-15 11:11:49 AM
BN0: "The Saudi's are sitting on around 261 billion barrels. Mexico's new 10 billion isn't globally significant."

Nobody knows what the Saudis are sitting on because they keep their data secret. Many suspect their numbers are inflated. Burgan in Kuwait has peaked and Shell restated reserves in Oman down over 20%. I expect Gharwar has also peaked and the Saudis aren't fessing up. See "Twilight in the Desert," Matthew Simmons.
