A few years ago my son, 15 at the time, was in a dirt bike accident. He broke his wrist, his arm, his clavical in two places, and cracked his skull. A number of doctors told me that carbonated beverages significantly weaken bones and contribute to how many and how badly they break.

I hate paying good money for a can of sugar. Now I find out the carbonation itself is bad for you.

/beer is good

Well, I'm on board!

Only thing is, I rarely get "Coke shiats" the day after a soda bender.

2006-03-09 10:36:46 AM
Who drinks whole milk anyway? I've never taken a shot in the mouth, but I'd venture to guess it's something like drinking whole milk.

2006-03-09 10:36:55 AM
2 beers per day keep the doctor away.

2006-03-09 10:38:58 AM
Well duh.

ThisIsGinaA number of doctors told me that carbonated beverages significantly weaken bones and contribute to how many and how badly they break.

Well, on the other hand, you're more likely to break your bones by getting into a fight with the bouncer after chugging so much that you think you're Superman.

So I suppose it balances itself out.

I gave up soda for one month.

I dropped 20 pounds.

Unfortunately, I'm drinking it again. And trying to stop. Again. You wouldn't think sugar is addictive, but it definitely is.

TFA says that the Lipton company paid for a study which recommended, get this, more tea than water.

However, the guy who headed the study was the chairman of the Harvard School of Public Health, he is generally respected and he gave his own share of the money Lipton provided away to charity.

/Freaky good luck for Lipton?
//Or altruistic study tomfoolery?
///Both unlikely

I like whole milk. But I generally stick with 2%, as whole can be very rich. Skim just tastes like milk with water added.

2006-03-09 10:39:59 AM
2 beers isn't nearly enough for any farkers I know. Lets hire our own team of scientist to push that number to 12!

I like beer, it makes me a jolly good fellow.
I like beer, it helps me unwind, and sometimes it makes me feel mellow.

2006-03-09 10:43:47 AM
I'm on it like Drew on a Heineken.

Seriously though. I don't get much out of pop. I'd rather get my caffeine in no-cal, high-octane black coffee form, and I find the taste and full-body pleasure of booze makes the calorie load much more worthwhile than anything I'd get from a Coke.

If I'm gonne gain weight, I'm going to do it with drinks that are actually worth it. Same goes for food (i.e. quality burgers and pizza over crap).

You know, some breweries inject extra CO2 into their beers, effectively making it a "carbonated beverage".

2006-03-09 10:46:59 AM
So... I should drink 80 ounces of coffee and tea per day?
Then slam 2 beers? Wait. Did someone say 12 beers? OK. Be back in a few minutes.

/be back after the potty break
//whole milk is best on cereal

Ultimately it would be one beer at lunch and one with or after dinner, but our lifestyles(being employed) don't allow that.

My own doc told me this 4 years ago. Improved my cholesterol levels and reduced blood pressure. Advocated 1 or 2 per day.
'Course, anything over 6 beer a week these days and you have a "drinking problem".
/rolls eyes in disgust...

March 2004, I weighed roughly 210 pounds. Now, I weigh 165. I don't drink soda anymore. I've started playing hockey, and I only started last year. Its amazing how much weight you can drop by cutting soda out completely.

And yes, I love beer. 24 ounces a day is good. I want to shake these nutritionists' hands.

i usually drink 6 per say on average. do i have a problem? healll nah. i drink, get drunk, pass out. no problem at all.

when sober people wake up in the morning, thats as good as theyre gonna feel all day. i on the other hand wake up feeling like crap, but get to look forward to feeling better around 6PM (when i get a beer in my hand).

20 to 50 ounces?! of water???

I drink 5-6 .5L bottles of water a day
/the problem with soda is that it ISN'T sugar, it's corn syrup

2006-03-09 11:03:18 AM
Nutritionists are now advocating coffee (black and unsweetened -- of course!) and beer? Fantastic; I'm officially healthy! Of course, I'm also in the UK, where anything more than 5 or 6 beers in a sitting qualifies as a 'binge' for governmental statistics...

/I guess it's just a pity about the smoking, then...

It is funny how some people are tea-totallers...and believe they've got it right. They will proudly proclaim that they do not drink, as if that demonstrates some sort of moral superiority. Now it seems that every study that comes out says that drinking a little alcohol is good for you. I love it.

are fluid ounces different from ounces? am i missing the conversion there? cuz my .5L bottle of water says it's .9 fluid ounces.

Do you really have any idea what you're talking about? .9 ounces? Maybe .9 Liters is correct and you need to get new glasses or at least see the eye doctor. Or, maybe, as my water bottle says, 1 pt, .9 fl oz.? Maybe you just have ADD and didn't read the entire figure?

Anyway, those figures (20 - 50) for daily water consumption are a minimum for inactive people. Atheletes and fitness buffs, depending on body size, will need 64 - 100 oz of water a day...in addition to the beer.

Remember, water is your friend as much as Chimay Ale (blue label) is your friend.

well... i'm looking at the 1 liter (33.78 oz, according to the internet) bottle that i usually fill up with water and drink at least once a day while at work, plus the 2 cups (16 oz) of coffee i drink in the morning, plus a few more glasses (32 oz) of water and a couple pints of beer (32 oz) that i have when i get home and with dinner and it seems kinda low.

\pisses like a race horse and sweats like a pig.
\\smells kinda funky too.
