I remember reading his book "The Learning Tree" in high school. He was an excellent photographer as well.

"said Richard Roundtree... 'There's no one cooler than Gordon Parks.'"

And he was from Kansas, yo. Yes, we have Fred Phelps. But we also had Gordon Parks.

He hated his early life in Kansas, but recently made some measure of peace with the people of Fort Scott once the new mayor made efforts to make things right. One big issue was how the gravesites of the black people were treated compared to the sites of whites.

This should have made the front page. He was a very special person.

He was much, much more than a director.

He was a prolific author and composer. He was an artist. An incredible photographer. An all around renaissance man; in the truest sense of the word.

He was also symbolic of the black cultural renaissance of the 70s, a renaissance which, sadly, completely derailed over the last 20 years.

He will be missed. Good night, funny man.

If we're going honor this well-deserving man on Fark, can we at least spell his name right?

Gordon Park(s), director of "Shaft," dies at 93. Shut yo mouth

When people like this pass on...I feel that the whole world again just got a little stupider...

Anyone know where I can get his movie "Super Cops" on DVD? I read the book and then saw the movie. Wasn't his best, but as with Shaft, shot all over NYC in the '70's. Even TLA can't find it...
