They forgot the petition to add a "Hungry, Hungry Hippos" tournament to the list of Olympic Events.

2002-05-30 01:53:40 PM
Alas, there was nothing in the article about whether or not a PetitionOnline petition has ever made one iota of difference.

My guess is "No".

2002-05-30 02:31:09 PM
I would say the weirdest one was the petition that wanted the name on "The Two Towers" LOTR sequel to be changed because it offended people.... because it reminded them of Sept11.

weird people.

WTF is with the Gay Trek one...damn - little too much time on peoples hands - they should be Farking instead...

2002-05-30 02:32:30 PM

Yeah, chances are they do crap, but it's good to feel like part of a crowd sometimes.

I signed one to get The Tick (animated, not that horrible live-action crap) released on VHS/DVD. Will the petition help? Not likely, but there's nothing wrong with dreaming.

"Don't forget to read the comments under each signer's name. They wack."

- huh? True dat?

2002-05-30 02:34:13 PM
Bottom Line: They DON'T work.

2002-05-30 02:38:14 PM
Gay Trek? wasn't there an episode about a whole society of people who weren't supposed to prefer a sex?

First name listed on The Gay Trek and the Golden Girls petitions :Harmonia.

2002-05-30 02:42:39 PM
I notice that many women i have met in my lifetime are fans of the Golden Girls. Why is this? is it because they represent the four types of women that are most prevelent? that women can see a little of themselves in each one? It makes no sense. It is like people being diehard fans of "Empty Nest."

I was under the impression that Gene Roddenbery specifically said that there would never be a gay character on Star Trek. I don't know why. My guess is that he didn't want to deal with the consequences.

2002-05-30 02:47:51 PM
LunaticFringe: Maybe the gay is contagious in space.

2002-05-30 02:48:54 PM
Yeah, that makes sense.

You know what would be Ironic?

If someone had a petition to stop petitions? People would sign it knowing it would be the last one they would ever be asked to sign. And if it helps pass the law that outlaws petitions, someone could have a petition to determine if the first law in unconstitutional, but they'd have to do it secretly and always have the fear that they might ask the wrong person, like a judge or Jerry Mathers to sign it. Besides, everyone knows that only the unemployed and pot heads sign petitions. Unless your neither, and sign them, then I, of course, don't mean you... Don't want to offend the straight laced petition signers - they could organize petitions.

2002-05-30 02:51:35 PM
then by all means send up all of nsync

2002-05-30 02:51:37 PM
Just about every TV series that featured a gay actor or a gay character tanked... fast. Guess Paramount wants to make money, not pander to a bunch of same sex knob polishers and tuna lickers.

2002-05-30 02:54:32 PM
Philo: Yeah, The Simpsons sure did tank fast.

2002-05-30 02:57:27 PM
Read the comments on the "Baby Come Back" petition. ROTFL

2002-05-30 02:58:18 PM
It's funny what comes up when you can create your own identity, say what you like without taking responsibility. I bet real cash that there is a petition somewhere to restart the Holocaust (Godwin!).

Could also be signed by people who are 'named' "Aryan power", or 'PooPooDoggie'. Just a thought.

2002-05-30 03:00:41 PM
Czar, the LOTR petition was a hoax. If you read the original petition, it is pretty funny and OTT. The hoax was perpetrated by someone from /.

2002-05-30 03:05:08 PM
Has an online petition ever worked?

2002-05-30 03:11:06 PM
Gays on Star Trek? Isn't Whoopie Goldberg gay?

2002-05-30 03:11:50 PM
Bleeorg, I believe this is the petition that you're looking for.

2002-05-30 03:16:04 PM
My friend forwarded me a petition to keep Pakistan and India from throwing Nukes at each other. I replied back that if representatives from at least 5 major countries couldn't get them to back down, I'm pretty sure an online petition would be less than useless.

Tomb Raider 1 Updated 3D Acceleration Patch

"Tomb Raider 1 (TR) should be remade to support current 3D video cards/chips."

233 signatures. Hmm, yeah. No.

What a job that guy has on Tech TV - just surf the web all day, looking for stupid websites.

It is the wishes of the undersigned that the producers and writers of Star Trek Enterprise add a gay or lesbian character to the series in at least a recurring role.

I used to be a webmaster at starmen.net. What a dumbass online community.

2002-05-31 01:20:47 AM
Earthbound still rules, though, and you should all sign that petition even though online petitions do nothing.

2002-05-31 05:19:22 AM
Online petitions are about as useful as trying to put out a raging fire by spitting on it.

2002-05-31 11:06:54 AM
