GurneyHalleck:

So far, Dave seems like he has integrity. It really would be cool to see someone stand up to the system and become an example of how it should be done.

If you've got $50 million dollars, you are the system, period.

2006-03-02 01:35:19 PM
Chappelle has enough money as it is. And I'm sure he could pick up just as much from someone other than Comedy Central if he really wanted to.

Other than that, some people just really aren't in it for the money, and that doesn't make them a "dumbass".

2006-03-02 01:35:27 PM
Wise_Guy: I don't remember reading what his original departure was caused by.

A widespread black entertianment and religous conspiracy. he was hassled by the likes of Bill Cosby, Oprah, Jesse Jackson, and Farakan.
They sent thugs to his house to rape and kill his wife if he did not stop the Comedy Central show.

OK that is atleast the premise on that one website. the chappelle theory or something.

2006-03-02 01:36:16 PM
"I feel like it's kind of a bully move," Chappelle told the Dayton Daily News in a telephone interview for a story Wednesday. "That's just how I feel about it. I don't know if that's the case. But if people don't watch it, then I'd be more than happy."

What a farkind dumbass. He leaves them high and dry, never says a word, costs Comedy Central tons of money and HE feels Comedy Central is bullying him.

Someone biatch slap that a-whole and take away his ganja.

He's not even all that funny, more like an annoying person whining and making racial jokes (which is OK if a black man does it but when somoene else does it you have censors and politicains crying).

2006-03-02 01:36:18 PM
So.. wait..

Dave is surprised that someone would pay him $50 million dollars and attempt to drive the show in their own direction?

If he doesn't return, I hope CC sues him into the ground. I'm getting really sick of watching celebs and athletes back out of their day jobs and ignore their contracts.

Sorry, but Dave LIED. He said he'd do X, and get paid Y. He didn't do X. He's the problem here.

2006-03-02 01:36:48 PM
Watch Dave's interview on Inside the Actor's Studio and then tell me you think he's a dumbass. He's that rare breed of person who doesn't lust after attention and power in Hollywood. He just likes making an audience laugh and doesn't need all the bullsh*t that comes with being famous.

2006-03-02 01:36:52 PM
All I can now hope fore is this is the end of Chappelle catch phrases shouted by white frat brahs.

I showed the season 2 DVD to a friend of mine--who had never seen the show--a few weeks ago, and now the dude CANNOT STOP SAYING "I'm Rick James, biatch." Seriously, over and over and over and over. Multiply that times 500,000, and I can see why Dave freaked out.

Plus, the skit was funny--that line, out of the skit, just isn't that funny.

We should make that a new cliche!

Chappelle is doing it right. He used Comedy Central as a springboard to boost his drawing power then bailed before they drug him down. His timing was perfect too... Look how much press he's getting.

I predict his next step will be to consider the various offers from other cable networks that give him (1) a bigger audience and (2) complete control over the content.

Yep. Everything I see going down tells me he's using his "street smarts" to play the game HIS way. More power to him.

2006-03-02 01:39:06 PM
nocode

I caught the James Lipton episode with Chappelle

So did I and Chappelle had a great line ( I was *ahem* half baked at the time so I can't say it was technically memorable) along the line of being original means everything that came before is obsolete and everything after is derivative. Something like that. He put it much better.

2006-03-02 01:39:19 PM
OK that is atleast the premise on that one website. the chappelle theory or something.

That website was put together by Charlie Murphy, interestingly enough.

From what I heard, the final straw was CC wanting him to make the show more "cliche based" than it was already becoming. They were like some of you farkers who try to force new cliches on Fark.

I like the cut of your jib, sir! I'd hit it forcefully, like... like... like farkers who try to force new cliches on Fark!

/"farkers who force new cliches on Fark" is the new Fark cliche!
//and if it isn't, I'll force it!

little big man, Watch Dave's interview on Inside the Actor's Studio and then tell me you think he's a dumbass. He's that rare breed of person who doesn't lust after attention and power in Hollywood. He just likes making an audience laugh and doesn't need all the bullsh*t that comes with being famous.

Then WTF is Dave doing with a farking a tv show? He doesnt want attention and just wants to make people laugh, stick to comedy clubs. Dave is an attentionwhore, plain and simple.

2006-03-02 01:40:45 PM
robleyw: Saw a clip of him trying to explain to Oprah what went wrong. The straw that broke the camel's back was supposedly when some white laughed at one of his bits and he could tell it was a "racist laugh" or some such shiat.

So what you're telling me is that the man can make white jokes all day, talk about how terrible and racist white people are, and when a white person laughs back at the kind of jokes about what's screwed up about black people and their racial identities, then he had to leave the game.

It's a sick double standard. It's a terrible double standard.

White people are screwed up. Black people are too. If you understand that, get past it with a big belly laugh, only then can you see the beauty in people.

/No. Really. I'm serious about the beautiful things in people comment.
//Super serious.

Is that an offer?

I see where Chappelle is coming from, but you don't walk out on a signed agreement. You make these decisions BEFORE you make an agreement. I hope Comedy Central sues him and wins.

2006-03-02 01:41:50 PM
Y'all quit biatchin' 'bout the 50 mil. Yes, he had a contract. They had the 50 mil in exchange for honoring the contract. He didn't honor the contract. So, he doesn't get the 50 mil. See how that works. I don't see the problem - he doesn't want to do the show anymore and they get to keep their money. Sounds like it worked out great for everybody.

"So who here would actually sell their creative soul for $50 million? "

Selling out my creativity for 50 million? I'd do it. And everyone can laugh and poke fun at me. Hell, I've seen people sell their asses for a lot less.... And for this 50 million I don'even have to pull down my pants and bend over. Actually for 50 million I think you might be pulling down my pants and getting on your knees.

That was funnier then his show right there son.

Thank you. But I don't think Comedy Central will be paying me $50 million anytime in the near future.

Sorry Dave, I'm watching it when Comedy Central airs it. I love you, but I love comedy so much more.

"...and what's the deal with Dave Chappelle?"

It's hilarious that people think Dave Chappelle is crazy for not taking $50 million, but there's nothing wrong with people like Paris Hilton getting famous for nothing more than being a dumb slut.

This says more about our society than it does about Mr. Chappelle - we have gotten so used to media whores, we are unable to comprehend anything else...

2006-03-02 01:45:25 PM
I think Chappelle is funny as hell, but I also wish he would get over whatever idiot shiat is bothering him and get his ass back to work or just say ya know "Hey I am never coming back" and get it over with so we can all stop expecting this "fabled" third season.

/is an idiot for messing up a 50 mil dollar contract.

JohnBigBootay, the problem is CC lost lost of $$ promoting his show. When he didnt show up, nor bother to notify anyone CC got assfarked. If Dave up-and-left he knew what he was doing, he could have called from the airport and told them, he could have had his agent/friends notify CC, but he just left, as if CC was his biatch and he could what he wnated and when he wanted. fark that, he signed a contract, in the real world when you sign a contract and you don't deliver you can get sued for breach of contract.

He'll never have as many friends on MySpace as Dane Cook. And that just kills him.

However, Dane Cook was in Torque. Advantage: Chappelle.

"I predict his next step will be to consider the various offers from other cable networks"

Don't know about that, if I was an executive for a network and saw a performer fall off the face of the earth after signing one of the largest contract in recent memory, I'd definitely think twice before doing any deal with him.

2006-03-02 01:49:32 PM
His next step will be hanging out with his family at a nice little college town in Ohio where he calls home.

Good on ya Dave. I'll see ya around YS when I am up there.

On the upside people there's billions of people in the world, there's bound to be another funny person on TV soon enough.

2006-03-02 01:50:50 PM
My theory is that Dave Chappelle will eventually DO the third season just like Brian Wilson eventually completed his album "SMiLE"...and like Brian it will be too late and outdated to be critically successful.

The First: in the real world when you sign a contract and you don't deliver you can get sued for breach of contract.

You can be sued for anything... whether you'll be found liable depends entirely on the language in the contract. If you happen to have a copy of the contract in question, by all means, share it with the rest of us.

Exactly.
Its finally died down. It got to the point where I was having to shout "Shut up! You're not Rick James or Dave Chappelle" on a nightly basis. It was for a few months my greatest pet peeve.

I could care less about what he does...Dane Cook is 10x's more funny...
