whose blood-alcohol level was 0.50 percent

Waiter...Waiter...there's blood in my alcohol.

Why not sue the Vodka makers while we're at it?

2006-03-02 11:41:46 AM
It was a half gallon, but still. I bet I'd be pretty farked up or wishing I was dead if myself and someone else polished off a 1/2 gallon in any sort of a hurry, and I'm not 11.

2006-03-02 11:41:46 AM
bulldg, I was going to make a comment about that.

.50? Jesus, might as well go for the ethyl while they're at it.

2006-03-02 11:41:58 AM
If I lived in Montana, I would try to get to 1.0 % as quick as possible.

two 11-year-old boys who skipped class and died after drinking half a gallon of vodka.

I don't think this was the first time they had drank. Definitely the last, though. Definitely.

Lightweights.

/ sad :-(

2006-03-02 11:43:49 AM
Man, even at the height of my drinking powers, I don't think I could have taken a run at a half gallon of vodka. Aren't kids precious?

2006-03-02 11:44:10 AM
One died of hypothermia AND alchohol poisoning, man that's just sad.

2006-03-02 11:44:39 AM
boyzRfullOFnoise: / sad :-(

Sad, yes. But the school is not to blame.

Where the hell were the parents telling the kids the dangers of drinking.
IIRC, the family is pretty screwed up to begin with.

2006-03-02 11:51:12 AM
Aren't kids precious? A salute to optimism!

2006-03-02 11:55:31 AM
"We're satisfied," Frank Nicolai said of the negligence ruling. "Basically, that was what we were looking for."

Uhh, no. You were looking to hit the lottery.

2006-03-02 12:03:18 PM
If only they had Drew as a drinking mentor

2006-03-02 02:11:57 PM
Well...that's the way it goes...

2006-03-02 02:15:43 PM
I don't suppose anyone has held them responsible for their own behavior, have they?

2006-03-02 02:16:04 PM
Listen. When it comes right down to it, we owe these kids a little respect. I mean, could anyone here actually say that they could polish a 1/2 gallon of vodka? I mean, I know that I couldn't. For those about to try, I salute you.

2006-03-02 02:16:39 PM
Thank you Darwin... only a few billion more to go.

2006-03-02 02:16:44 PM
.50 BAC? How can can some kids drink that much without puking or passing out first? Good grief, that must have been some good vodka.

/one-way, please

2006-03-02 02:17:16 PM
Wow, where the heck can you get a GALLON of vodka?

/didnt rtfa
//knows it was only half gallon, which is about a liter and some
///still thinks a gallon of vodka is funny
////the alcohol poisoning was not, however, funny

2006-03-02 02:17:40 PM
Umm where did two 11-year old kids get a hlaf gallon of vodka?

2006-03-02 02:18:49 PM
Was one of the boys named Kenny?

2006-03-02 02:18:55 PM
Actually if you run vodka through a Brita filter, it takes Most of the sting out. Also I'm sure there are kids in Russia who can drink a whole lot of vodka in one go and handle it.

DoBeDoBeDo: Umm where did two 11-year old kids get a hlaf gallon of vodka?

parents liquor cabinet? or maybe they paid a hobo to buy it...

Must of been `Canadian Tire' vodka -aka- antifreeze.

2006-03-02 02:20:09 PM
Getting drunk is cool.

2006-03-02 02:20:10 PM
.50? Damn! They don't even need to embalm them.

2006-03-02 02:20:27 PM
Darwin smiles.

0.5?

Holy sh*t. Moses could have used that kid's blood for seven days and seven nights.

2006-03-02 02:21:46 PM
To answer how they got it down without puking, they prolly chugged it. My mom relates to me a story from high school that put a girl in the hospital (I don't think she died) who chugged a beer bottle full of everclear.

2006-03-02 02:22:00 PM
I bet those parents wish that their kids had got some nice safe non-toxic marijuana instead of bottle of unmarked poison.

Actually, it might have been, since they clearly didn't know what they were doing.

When I was a kid, maybe 13, I drank a large glass of gin stolen from my folk's liquor cabinet and threw up all over myself, because it was pretty much my first time, and I had no clue.

An Artsman and an Engineer once found a gallon can.
Said the Artsman, "Match me drink for drink; let's see if you're a man!"
They drank three drinks, the Artsman died, his face was turning green.
The Engineer drank on and said, "It's only gasoline!"

We are, we are, we are, we are, we are the Engineers!
We can, we can, we can, we can, demolish forty beers.
Drink rum, drink rum, drink rum, drink rum, drink rum, and follow us,
For we don't give a damn for any old man who don't give a damn for us!

Heamer: Holy sh*t. Moses could have used that kid's blood for seven days and seven nights.

I'm confused if this is a Hanukkah joke.

2006-03-02 02:26:15 PM
Just like safe sex, we should be teaching high school and college students safe drinking as well. While it might be obvious to most intelligent people that a gallon of vodka is poisonous, it would probably save a few lives if someone pointed that out to students.

2006-03-02 02:26:33 PM
Frank Nicolai said he was almost certain he could have found the boys before they consumed the alcohol had he been notified earlier in the day that they were not in school.

Where were they? One of them died partly of hypothermia, so would he have looked in the woods behind his house or something?

2006-03-02 02:26:43 PM
You can only go so far back when claiming causal liability. Glad at least one jury has realized this.

2006-03-02 02:26:44 PM
Wait, one of the kids was named Nikolai? And he couldn't handle his vodka?

V Sovetskoi Rusii, Vodka piet tebya!

2006-03-02 02:27:06 PM
"We're satisfied," Frank Nicolai said of the negligence ruling. "Basically, that was what we were looking for."

*cough*bullshiat*cough*

They were almost certainly hoping the jury would impose monetary damages.

2006-03-02 02:27:59 PM
According to my Russian friends at work, Russian Vodka is quite badly made. One told me that whenever he went drinking back in the old country, he'd always be sick the next day, but the Vodka sold in the US never leaves him sick. Apparently Russian (or Ukranian) vodka is basically just shackled together moonshine. With antifreeze for flavouring.

Ahem,

The article doesn't say they consumed a half gallon each, just a half gallon.

/back to your regularly scheduled program
//with a drink
//how many drinks in a half a US gallon anyway?

2006-03-02 02:29:16 PM
Chalk up a couple more for Darwin!

I fear he will get us all, in the end.

Hooray for parenting!!!
