Me and my Ackmhed McAmenedijad

Cool tag? More like stupid.

BTW, Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Ky your right civil liberties do not mean much when you are dead. But they sure as hell mean a lot to me now, while I'm alive.

2006-02-28 09:08:43 PM
I like the way Feingold thinks...maybe a canidate for pres. in '08?

2006-02-28 09:12:35 PM
the first amendment has been turned into a joke, we're all doomed

2006-02-28 09:13:40 PM
Mythy
I like the way Feingold thinks...maybe a canidate for pres. in '08?

He should run. I true liberal could really make his mark, or at least make waves

The Gheytraiot Act.

Nonsense.

submitter: FreedomThe Constitution is just another word for nothing left to lose. Patriot Act extension passed in Senate

Fixed that for ya.

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Look, if you aren't doing anything wrong, then it shouldn't matter if they are peering through your window. It protects us from the terrorists. They will kill us all otherwise. 9/11. Terror.

2006-02-28 09:19:27 PM
Feingold for President.

2006-02-28 09:21:09 PM
so it's "cool" that we're about to have "nothing left to lose"??

i really don't get the combination.

Notice: jonasborg is making a joke.

Few people activate their sarcasm detectors in here ;)

2006-02-28 09:22:19 PM
no, nevermind, my previous musings are all wrong...

still doesn't make any sense.

"I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power."
--Thomas Jefferson

But I'm still not happy,
I feel like
there's something wrong.
I got the revolution blues,
I see bloody fountains,
And ten million dune buggies
comin' down the mountains.
Well, I hear that Laurel Canyon
is full of famous stars,
But I hate them worse than lepers
and I'll kill them
in their cars.

GaryPDX: I hate that stoopit argument.

did his last two one-word sentences not give him away?

2006-02-28 09:24:42 PM
GaryPDX
Come back later and tell us all about it when they are looking through your window and you havn't done anything wrong.

I hate that stoopit argument.

TERROR! DIRTY BOMB! Think of what could happen if the TERRORISTS came to your house instead. 9/11.

2006-02-28 09:24:58 PM
GaryPDX: Pass...it's McCains time

I kinda like McCain but he's the biggest flip-flopper of them all. He can't strike a balance between distancing himself from the current GOP and needing it to get where he wants to go and he comes off as a huge panderer. Caveat: I have no idea if "panderer" is actally a word.

2006-02-28 09:26:25 PM
GaryPDX: I see that now...lol.

they've ingrained it so much, it's almost working. scary ;)

it's right wing day on fark hence the cool tag

2006-02-28 09:29:05 PM
seriously though, the headline/cool combo...

"cool that we have the patriot act back, because freedom's so passe"?

i think i got it. people really think like that?

ZAZ [TotalFark]

so it's "cool" that we're about to have "nothing left to lose"??

i really don't get the combination.

It's a reminder from the admins not to abuse the [ASININE] tag, which was originally on the submission. I have seen a similar modification when the submitter typed an editorial comment in the link source field.

2006-02-28 09:31:12 PM
GaryPDX: If he doesn't get the GOP nod, he should ditch the Republican party and come out fighting Independent. He's got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

He would do that if he wasn't spineless. That's my point.

2006-02-28 09:31:37 PM
ZAZ: t's a reminder from the admins not to abuse the [ASININE] tag,

oh, then.... ok. i could think of better reminders though. why fark would present itself as greenlighting this as-is, when always being accused of bias, is beyond me.

2006-02-28 09:33:52 PM
mediaho: spineless

Not totally fair. He has more backbone than most of his colleagues.

2006-02-28 09:34:10 PM
Oh Boy! The Patriot Act is going to be extended?

/goes to put "Bulls on Parade" on infinite loop on CD player.

2006-02-28 09:34:25 PM
"But it doesn't effect YOU! Why should you care? We're only getting terrorists, and YOU aren't a terrorist are you?"

Point of terrorists... is to terrorize your ass. It's in the name, see the terror part? They are trying to scare your fat ass.

Know the trick?

DON'T FREAK OUT!!!

They WANT us to do this. Remember all that 'they hate our freedom' crap that you spouted? That's not the reason they do this, but for farks sake if that's what you belive then WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! You GAVE them what they WANTED! They didn't want to DIE IN A FLAMING PLANE, they wanted to fark WITH YOU.

The terrorists HAVE won, simply because Americans are so politically correct and over sensitized by having no conflict in their lives that a single attack was enough for them to surrender their rights that this nation was founded on.

God forbid they think it through. No no, black and white, good and bad. Remember, there's always a good guy and a bad guy, a winner and a loser... no grey area.

...
[/rant]

2006-02-28 09:35:34 PM
If it means that you have to take away my freedoms, I would rather die by a dirty bomb. At least then I would die free.

2006-02-28 09:37:17 PM
GaryPDX: A guy who spends 5-6 years in the Hanoi Hilton, well, I have no doubt he has the spine. Whether he chooses to stand up is entirely different. I see him as a loyal Republican but an Independent at heart. I just hope and pray he follows his heart this time around.

I meant politically. I was not calling his service into question. I would just rather see a loyal conservative than a loyal Repuiblican, given the choice.

I don't hate the playa, I hate the game.

2006-02-28 09:40:41 PM
Does anybody know if this version still has the part where the gov't can secretly monitor your public library history? If it's still in there, I think I'm going to go to my local library and check out the Qu'ran, the Anarchist's Cookbook, and something about nuclear power. And possibly the Turner Diaries at the same time.

I want to make the NSA's head A-splode.

2006-02-28 09:42:15 PM
Word on the street is that McCain is pretty conservative at heart, somewhat liberal in public, and a Republican in the bedroom.

2006-02-28 09:50:08 PM
Excommunicated: The terrorists HAVE won, simply because Americans are so politically correct and over sensitized by having no conflict in their lives that a single attack was enough for them to surrender their rights that this nation was founded on.

Sad, but true.

If the terrorists hate us for our freedoms, does this mean the terrorists have won? If we give up ALL our rights, will they leave us alone?

/Just because I don't think many people even know that it's an acronym:

Uniting and
Strengthening
America by
Providing
Appropriate
Tools
Required to
Intercept and
Obstruct
Terrorism

Keep that in mind. This act has neither united nor strengthened America. And it sure as hell hasn't intercepted or obstructed terrorism.

I think of it more as "flushing them into the open". Right now, I have no idea if they are watching me or not. If I check out those books and then book a flight to Cairo to see the Pyramids, then I'll know for sure they're watching my ass....and that's the perfect time to moon them by donating $20 dollars to the Schwarzeneggar re-election campaign and sending $20 to some Islamist charity at the same time.

Actually, anyone want to run a little experiment?

Group A donates to local Democratic candidates and an Islamo-charity.
Group B donates to local Republican candidates and an Islamo-charity.

Then let's see who gets pulled into secondary more often at the airport.

/begin rant

Stand up for something, Goddammit!

America isn't just a big pool of people and tall buildings.. Most current dictatorships and despots have both.

Untill now, we have enjoyed a mostly-solid wall that is supposed to shield us from the tyrrany that can flow from unchecked power. Even 200 years ago, a bunch of guys recognized that.

In a heartbeat, I would vote for any candidate that stands on a platform of:
1) Smaller government
2) A strong military.
3) A dedication to support civil liberites within our borders
4) Strong borders, with reasonable immigration
5) A recognition that civil liberties for which we have shed so much blood in the past are the very foundation of what defnines us as a pretty freakin' special place.

/end rant
//would describe myself as 'center-left'

God damn it to all hell.

If I'm too chickenshiat to post without disclaimers, I doubt they'd believe I have the huevos to storm the White House single-handedly.

mediaho: Very.

Well, then don't worry too much if the SS hears about your nonexistent plans to storm the castle.

/not that you would pull any such stunt

we have no freedoms, I can't curbside check in anymore because of my name

2006-02-28 10:41:03 PM
I, for one, would like to state, on record, that (a) I have nothing but the utmost respect for officers of Secret Service and (b) I don't know any of these people.

"Civil liberties do not mean much when you are dead," Bunning told the Senate.

Three words for this douchebag: fark yourself sideways.

Also...

Does anyone know how long this, if passed, will extend the Act? TFA doesn't say(hooray journalism).

2006-02-28 11:46:11 PM
Civil liberties mean everything if you died for them.

/props to my much older relatives who died in WWII in service of our country.

Remember. He was a pitcher back when they had to bat. I'm assuming the other pitchers threw at his head a lot.

Cowards are afraid to die.

Diehards are afraid to coward.

/I just made that up on Fat Tuesday, 2200 hours.

Several Democrats voted "no" on the test vote Tuesday to protest the GOP majority's refusal to allow amendments, but said they would vote for the bill on final passage. These lawmakers included Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., the Judiciary Committee's senior Democrat.

What. The. Fark.
