A Very Sad Day.

Goodbye Barney and Carl.

Thank you for making me laugh and giving me chills when i was a kid.

To Isc78, its probably because what the shrub is doing to this nation isn't one bit funny.

So, I can get home from a long day at work, on a cold and rainy night, and you tell me Don Knotts is dead. Thanks a lot.

When you ask why people cheer The beloved Mr Knotts and boo at this countries President, maybe this quote over the death of Emperor Norton will help explain it.

Kaiser that ever wore a crown. Perhaps he will rise more than the peer of most of them. He had a better claim to kindly consideration than that his lot "forbade to wade through slaughter to a throne and shut the gates of mercy on mankind." Through his harmless proclamations can always be traced an innate gentleness of heat, a desire to effect uses and a courtesy, the possession of which would materially improve the bitterful living princes whose names will naturally suggest themselves.

Thanks,jimpoz- didn't think anyone was gonna make that reference! I was always a sucker for that movie, dunno why, but I always loved him with Tim Conway.

/loved the way he always referred to Andy as "Ang", like short for "Angie"
//was glad I saw him a while back on the Andy Griffith reunion

*sigh* In the year end issue of Rolling Stone, it was asked of God to stop taking our classic TV buddies (Bob Denver, Don Adams...) apparently God's doing some harvesting with intentions of making the best sitcom ever.

Thanks for the laughs, Don.

BTW, gravital, thanks for that pic- been looking for a full size one of it, could only find thumbs. "Donzig"- love it!

Thanks for the good, clean, wholesome comedy, from a kinder and gentler time and place.

Keep the angels laughing, Don.

Grandemadaca I have that book too!

Also died today;

Bruce Hart, best known for his "Sesame Street" lyrics and the song "Free to Be ... You and Me," died Tuesday at home in Manhattan. He was 68.

Sad.

It was said before, but seems the most apt:

"Bye, Barn."

Raptor and IAMMMMW fans

Did you see "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" in the theatre?
Was the opening theme a vocal?
Was that Shirley Bassey?

Please reply.

Don. I'll have a cocktail for you.

I would be honored if you would have one for me.

Rest In Peace.

My favorite line: Barney to Andy, "Why don't you run up an alley and holler fish!!"
We'll miss you Barn, the black and white episodes were always the best.

2006-02-25 11:53:11 PM
I hate it when everyone else has said it already but this really makes me feel sad and old. Don Knotts made me laugh when I was a kid and I'll miss him for that. Especially the day when I was too "sick" to go to school and got to watch reruns all day. God Blss.

Do we have confirmation on Darren Mcgavin yet? I can't find anything about his death anywhere but that one site.

I think Steve Buscemi would play Don Knotts in the movie of my life...

2006-02-26 12:16:22 AM
awwww man.....

I saw ashow about him on Biography some time back. I was amazed at what a huge star he was for his time.

2006-02-26 12:17:50 AM
I saw Don do "On Golden Pond" a couple of years ago in Kansas City. He was a total professional and never missed a beat. We've lost a real original.

thanks, Don. you've earned your rest.

2006-02-26 12:30:45 AM
Is it true that he was a founding member of NAMBLA with Allen Ginsberg?

2006-02-26 12:40:07 AM
Thanks for the memories Don. KC is ever so glad that we got to meet you in person. Your shows here were such a trip. Keep 'em entertained until we get there!!!

2006-02-26 12:44:18 AM
That sucks. Rest in peace funnyman. You really were great and talented.

Did anybody see The Reluctant Astronaut. Awesome. Same for another movie he did where he has to stay in a haunted house.

And Knotts as Mr. Furley on Three's Company was untouchable. I have an image of my head as Knots as Mr. Furley, all bug-eyed as he listens to one of those double-entendre/mis-heard conversations between Jack and Janet that aweome nipple girl who replaced Somers. Can't recall her name at the moment...

2006-02-26 12:47:28 AM
(OMFG must go to bed.) Knots as Mr. Furley, bug-eyed as he begins to grasp the nature of the conversation that he's overheard. I've got to get those DVDs.

2006-02-26 12:49:44 AM
Aw, gee, Andy,

RIP.

2006-02-26 12:53:43 AM
TheMatt: Oddly, because of my childhood, he'll always be from the "Apple Dumpling Gang" as far as I'm concerned. I liked that movie as a kid...haven't watched it in years. Well, probably be on TCM soon.

I can second that, I must have watched that movie a billion times when I was little.

2006-02-26 01:05:49 AM
The Incredible Mr. Limpett was a monthly thing to see on TV on a Sunday afternoon. Easily one of my favorite movies from when I was a kid.

As for Darren McGaven, he was also in The Natural, as that guy who was trying to bribe Roy, and also did the whole thing with guessing what Roy had in money on him while he covered one eye - whatever that was about.

RIP, both of you.

2006-02-26 01:14:31 AM
I never tire of watching you. Thanks Barn

2006-02-26 01:14:56 AM
Goodbye, Deputy Fife. May you finally use the bullet in the next life.

2006-02-26 01:17:31 AM
RIP funny man.

2006-02-26 01:19:23 AM
One of his most memorable bits for me was one time where Barney was memorizing the preamble to the constitution.

RIP Don, thanks for the laughs

Man, I remember getting dropped off at the theatre for a Saturday matinee with my little brother for a showing of the Apple Dumpling Gang. Remember it.. like it was yesterday. Even went to see the sequel when it came out- although I was hitting my teen years by then and was pretty much an a$$hole about everything. But I still liked Don Knotts.

/RIP
//not quite as big an a$$hole anymore
