I was thinking about constructing a codpiece out of depleted uranium, but then I thought all that would happen is that I'd end up fathering a superhero, and that would TOTALLY suck trying to discipline Superman as a child:

Me: "Go to your room!"
Him: "No!"
Me: "Why you little..." *chokes him*
Him: *punches hole through my chest cavity*

Would you kindly discuss your respective vasectomy experiences for those farkers like me who are planning/considering such procedures?

Been there. Operation was under an hour via local anaesthetic. Drove myself home. Went to work the next day. Pretty tender for a while, but nothing outrageous, I didn't take more than a grand total of 3 Tylenol.

3 months later or so, depending on what your doctor requests, you provide a sperm sample. The point is, it doesn't work right away because there's still sperms hanging around. Have a lot of sex, flush the tubes, so to speak, then you go get tested. Results come back, and then you're done.

Quite frankly, I was expecting a lot worse. It was fine. And as long as there's no problems, you only go through it once.

In retrospect, it was nothing compared to the hernia surgery. Having your muscles sliced open like that was horrible. It hurt to laugh or cough. None of that here, just two tiny incisions in your scrotum.

just cat

What crime is that? The crime of having sex while not owning the uterus? Condoms break. Birth control fails. The woman still has an option. The man doesn't. Yeah, ok, abstinence. But you know as well as I that it ain't gonna happen as long as interlocking parts are so much fun. So why not let the guy have some control? Just because the woman might not exercise her own, and might believe some asshole guy who, for some reason, wants to lie about birth control, even if it means accidently knocking her up and paying child support forever?

Please, please someone give men hormonal contraceptives!

/in a committed relationship with someone I trust
//would love to lose the condoms
///takes my pills but insists on a backup method
////would scrape it out myself if i had to

2006-02-24 07:12:06 PM
as a girl i can say without a doubt that i would never trust a guy i'd recently met to take the pill. men would just lie to get laid, duh. screw that. how many poor, single fathers with two jobs do you know? exactly. while i'm sure they exist, and they are a credit to their sex, let's be real.

but if one were in a committed relationship, this would be ideal. if both partners were on b/c, they could have sex constantly and never even worry! that would be awesome. i'm unable to take the pill, and i wish i could make my boyfriend take this. (i spend too much money on condoms :P blah)

"The problem is that men are afraid to lose their virility. Even if taking a pill carries only a remote chance of impotence, they won't take the chance"

God what a load of farking horseshiat.

I'm on bc and one of the advantages is supposed to be a decreased chance of getting cervical cancer so I'd assume a male bc wouldn't give you cancer.

I took a morning off school to take my dad to get his done many years ago. I'd like to think I was there because the doctor told him he shouldn't drive himself home but it is equally possible that he wanted a reminder of why he wanted it done near by.

silly women, of course a man would remember to take those pills. the consequences of forgetting to replace the toilet paper roll do not outweigh the benefits of remembering to do so. the same is not true with a no-pregnancy-guarantee that we have complete control of.

do men forget to take viagra?

Blind_Io: I, for one, would like to welcome our new hormonal-based male contraceptive overlords?

I see male contraceptives as a good thing, it relieves part of the burden off of the woman, and it will make sex alot more pleasurable for both partners. If both partners our on thier respecitve pills, then there is less of a need for condoms/barriers. This is of course assuming a faithful monogamist relationship. If you're a player and like to jump in bed with a new woman every week, i'd wrap that thing up, just from the STD standpoint.

Also, the idea that a minute chance of impotence would deter most men from taking it, is a bit far fetched. Men do alot of things that already run a risk of impotence and still keep on doing them (smoking, drinking, kicking each other in the balls for fun). It's like any other cost/benefit scenario. And a very low occurance of impotence is greatly outweighed by an effective non-barrier method of contraceptives.

2006-02-24 07:25:41 PM
Eh. The more kinds of birth control available, the better. I really have a hard time seeing the downside to a male contraceptive pill being available.

Of course, as several people have pointed out, you have to also worry about STDs. But then that's also true with "the pill."

That said, abstinence does work really really well. Who's with me?!

I would SO take a male pill.

/And I *always* change the damn toilet paper!

Click on my user name and check out the link in there. The link goes directly to a thread about my vasectomy experience. If you click on the link within that link, you will read an extremely long thread where other FARKers relayed their experiences to me (before I had the procedure). Seriously, it's like the mother of all vasectomy threads.

Speak for yourself pal.

Huh, I wonder if the fundies would gonna get all pissy and try to block the sale of that to people as well.

2006-02-24 07:40:55 PM
Any SMART man would take it.

Given the number of rational women who go crazy in the head and "forget" to take birth control.

2006-02-24 07:46:36 PM
The guy in the interview is either senile or simply out of it. Compare:

"no pharmaceutical company is interested in developing a male pill. Not one," he added.

vs.

"Professor Richard Anderson, at Edinburgh University's Contraceptive Development Network...is working with Dutch drugs giant Organon on trials of the male pill and male implants" (link)

This article is bogus.

pleasantpanther:

There's the problem: NO ONE should rely on just The Pill with someone you just met. Not just because of pregnancy risk but risk of STDs.

The pill really should only be used as a sole contraception in a relationship where you TRUST the other person.

/give everyone the pill, stupid scientists!
//the decision for a new life should never only be up to one side

2006-02-24 07:54:40 PM
I'd get on it in a heartbeat. No more worrying about if the GF is really on it or not. It'd probably stop a lot of unwanted marriages.

2006-02-24 07:56:18 PM
Ummm what about STDs? I guess you single guys will still need condoms unless you're in a comitted monogamous relationship.

2006-02-24 07:56:43 PM
I would KILL for a male contraceptive pill.

KILL.

2006-02-24 07:57:34 PM
Bah, I was knocked up by two different guys who thought that my over-the-counter birth control would take the place of condoms. One of the guys had condoms already in his bedside table.

Guess they learned their lesson.

/Now I'm the ones who's snipped.

2006-02-24 08:06:05 PM

/can't ever be too sure

I would pay more for this, and sooner buy this, than I would a playstation. If this article is accurate then pharmaceutical companies are idiots. There is billions to be made.

2006-02-24 08:08:29 PM
Hah, I'd completely take something like that. Nothing worse than when a woman says "you don't have to use a condom, I'm on the pill" and she turns out to be lying. Fortunately for me, I didn't believe that BS.

/it was a girlfriend, for all those about to cry "But, AIDS..."
//...and she was looking to trap me into marriage.
///biatches, man, biatches

2006-02-24 08:08:34 PM
i'd trust myself over any woman. not picking on women, just saying that I'll KNOW if I took it, and I have to rely on a woman SAYING she did. And sometimes, they just SAY they did. We all SAY stuff sometimes, now, don't we?

2006-02-24 08:10:01 PM

Um, no offense, cryinoutloud... but I'm curious why you say *they* learned their lesson, when you were the one who let two guys tell *you* that they didn't need to wear condoms, and then you got pregnant...? But kudos to you for taking preemtive steps to prevent it happening a third time. :)

2006-02-24 08:11:07 PM
I'd take it, how much for a lifetime supply?

/doesn't want kids, but still not quite ready for the snippy snippy

You're all missing something.

Excess testosterone causes male pattern baldness. Propecia works, for instance, by decreasing testosterone levels.

If you were told, ok, here's your pill, now you'll go bald...would you still do it?

I read the headline and wanted to get all pissy at men who won't take responsibility for birth control.

Then I scrolled through the thread and saw all you guys for a male BC pill.

And you mean-hearted guys who want a pill because you don't trust the women you are sleeping with when they say they are on birth control....

Good for you!

But I have no idea why the hell you want to have sex with someone you don't trust. Never mind, i will retract that statement.

2006-02-24 08:24:27 PM
ExJerseyGirl

Everything has a failure rate, and if you're as adamant against kids as I am, then more control can't hurt.

2006-02-24 08:24:30 PM
I'll take it as long as it doesn't gigantize my ballz.

hmmm. well...

seriously why the fark wouldn't guys take it?

i would take it as long as it was safe

Of course, I doubt it would be entirely free of side-effects -- the pill for women has them, too.

Hopefully, a male pill make us taller, thinner, and with more hair on our heads.

2006-02-24 08:42:35 PM
I see it as a form of double insurance. She's on the pill, you're on the pill, ninety something percent efective to the second power= No unwanted children; not having to worry about the responsibility of raising another human being untill maturity and hopefully instilling some worthwile values into them untill you're emotionally and financial mature.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but if a guy told me he wanted to "ride me bareback" and "bust all up inside me" I'd reconsider having sex with him.

2006-02-24 09:02:45 PM
All your sperm are belong to us.

2006-02-24 09:04:01 PM
If I was getting any lately, I would certainly use a pill for guys. With partners on pills, or even saying they were, there would be great protection against pregnency. Couple that with a condom for the STDs, assumming she wasn't a virgin, and there would be a very small chance of any unwanted after effects.

Jabber [TotalFark]

Dammit, if there are so many men here who would take this pill why don't we pool our money and start manufacturing it ourselves? Just think of the killing we would make!!!

Get Drew on this ASAP!! You have TF, you must know him!!

/With profits....EVERYONE can be TF!!
//Then the Ultrafark people will be o++++++LOST CARRIER

2006-02-24 09:11:50 PM
Yeah that's why I risk impotence from Propecia just to try to keep my hair around.

Idiots.

And no I'm not one of the ones who have a problem with it thank god. I asked my Dr. how I would know if I was experiencing impotency affecting side effects.

He just looked at me and said "You'll know."
