Wish I'd thought of it, that's all I have to say.

As a Catholic, I have to say that I hate these people because they make me embarrassed of my faith.

"Museums are the secular temples of our day," founder Bill Jack said.

They must all be burned to the ground!

I swear, I don't think this country has been more anti-intellectual and anti-science since I've been alive. And it's getting worse.

Not so strange. Darwin thought black people looked like monkeys. Yes, he was a racist.

I have to admit, I'm inclined not to believe you. Do you have a link or source on this?

Alexandra: Not so strange. Darwin thought black people looked like monkeys. Yes, he was a racist.

And that means evolution supports racism how exactly?

Boy, Rusty Carter is doing his best to steer these kids away from any possible nobel prizes.

Anti-intellectualism has always played a bit part in our society. The US is one of the only first world nations (that I'm aware of) where people are actually shunned and ostracized for having above average cognitive abilities.
For example:
Nerd!
Dork!
Book worm!
I won't vote for that guy, he seems more smarter den me!
Etc.

2006-02-23 10:11:26 PM
The group isn't unique: The 7 Wonders Museum at the Mount St. Helens volcano in Washington state says it is dedicated to "creation science studies," while the Kentucky ministry, Answers in Genesis, is planning a $25 million Creation Museum in the Cincinnati area.

This whole thing is fair game as long as we get to lead scientifically correct tours in their museum.

Source? Quote? Citation?

BTW, even if he did follow some pretty typical victorian prejudices evolution does NOT support racism. I'd say religion has done more to fuel racism and various prejudicial hatreds than anything science ever has.

"Did man and dinosaurs live together?" Carter asks. A timid yes comes from the students. "How do we know that to be true?" Carter says. There's a long pause. "What day did God create dinosaurs on?" he continues. "Six," says a chorus of voices. "What day did God create man on?" "Six." "Did man and dinosaurs live together?" "Yes," the students say.

He's got us there. That logic is air tight.

Alexandra: Not so strange. Darwin thought black people looked like monkeys. Yes, he was a racist.

Even if your assertion is true, and I'm not convinced, it has no bearing on whether his theory of evolution is true or not.

William Shockley (co-inventor of the transistor) had some rather racist and sexist notions. Doesn't mean that transistors don't work.

Abraham Lincoln had a rather farked-up relationship with his wife and a female friend of his. Doesn't mean he wasn't a great President; doesn't mean that marriage isn't a great institution.

Christopher Columbus had some mistaken notions about the geometry of the Earth, and some rather nasty racist ideas about taking native americans as slaves. Doesn't mean his accomplishment of the discovery of the new world wasn't awesome.

Let's try to separate the factual notions and deeds of people from the foolish notions that they may also have held. Humans are fallible creatures, but that doesn't mean they're not capable of astounding transcendent accomplisments.

And, to reiterate, I'm not going to take Darwin's alleged racism just on your say-so.

I'm not going to take Darwin's alleged racism just on your say-so.

By today's standards, Darwin (and almost everyone else who lived in Europe at the time) was racist. He says some things about "savages" in "The Descent of Man" which would make your hair curl.

However, that doesn't take away from the fact that he published a theory which is the cornerstone of modern biology. He also had the courage to question his religion when faced with clear evidence against it.

You better believe he did, sinner! Actually, the church has been hiding the awful truth about Jesus from you for years..

Funny you should say that- Creationists disagree with you! There were dinosaurs on the ark with Noah!

They do have a point about racism, though. The Theory of Evolution basically legitimized racism in the late 19th and early 20th century. Abortion is kind of a stretch, though, but I can see their point. I guess aborting babies that are "genetically inferior"?

I currently live in Colorado Springs and I am appalled by tactics of the fundies in this city. My wife and I would move if we didn't love our jobs and house so much. I just have to do my part and subvert the masses one at a time.

Creationists are above supporting their "facts". You're not supposed to question them when they lie. And they will lie. Oh, how they will lie.
