2006-02-23 05:19:40 PM
why the hell would you vacation there?

2006-02-23 05:21:17 PM
Before you plan on visiting any of these places, get a life insurance policy

Err... Don't all life insurance policies have an exception for deaths caused by war?

Sort of like property insurance having an exception for nuclear war.

2006-02-23 05:23:10 PM
Why the fark would you call any of those places vacation destinations?

2006-02-23 05:24:05 PM
I dig them Georgia peaches ...

2006-02-23 05:24:16 PM
Spring Break in Syria! (why is that not on the list?)

2006-02-23 05:28:46 PM
that was a fascinating aticle and look into what life is like in countries we don't often focus on.

JerseyTim: Democratic Republic of the Congo

heh, gotta love that name. Democratic? No. Republic? uh uh. Even the 'of the congo' bit is questionable.

It's a sad state of affairs when a cat can't visit the birthplace of the "Burundi Beat" that inspired bands like Adam Ant and Bow-Wow-Wow.

2006-02-23 08:56:22 PM
Couldn't they narrow Georgia down to Atlanta or some other city. Why blame the whole state?

Eh, backwoods Georgia may be more dangerous than the metropolitan areas, depending on your complexion. Besides, if Georgia wants its own Olympic team instead of competing with the rest of the U.S., the whole state should be labelled as dangerous.

I only scanned the article, but how definitive a list can it be if they didn't talk to my man Robert Pelton Young???

My friends, the most dangerous place you can visit, beyond a doubt, is LAS VEGAS.

2006-02-23 09:15:10 PM
Oh, man, not the Sudan. I was so looking forward to going to Kordofan for our anniversary. There's some great, uh, stuff there, or something. Although, truth be told, I would love to see Africa and I have a couple of friends who biked from one end of the continent to the other and had nothing bad at all happen to them.

Vacation.

Hmm. I do see the latin root "vacate" in there, so maybe it has something to do with leaving, but I gotta admit I'm not entirely familiar with this term. Hold on.

{checks dictionary}

Wait a second! You're telling me people just leave and go someplace else for a few days? What about their jobs? If I took a day off work to go to another city, just for personal satisfaction, I'd get fired!

2006-02-23 09:15:15 PM
Vacation? A friend of mine had her neice decide to go to Zimbabwe because she could help 'ease the suffering' of the 'people.' She was kidnapped, raped, mutilated, and 'necklaced.' My friend decided it was her Christian Duty to forgive them.

I'd be Charles Bronson walking the streets, handgun in pocket, looking for trouble. I'm no Christian... ... ...

2006-02-23 09:16:44 PM
Georgia.. come on vacation, leave on probation. pfftbh.

2006-02-23 09:17:12 PM
This list is absolutely pointless.

None of these countries are exactly "vacation paradises"

I would like to know if travelling to, say, Sao Paulo, is safe, or Bangkok, or maybe Paris. That would be far more usefull than a bunch of countries already on the State Department's danger lists.

2006-02-23 09:18:52 PM
Georgia is dangerous. I've seen the Dukes of Hazzard. There's always shenanigans going on.

For those of you not joking, I'm sure they are refering to the small country in the Caucasus region of Asia.

Rotten_Peaches: My friend decided it was her Christian Duty to forgive them.

So she's insane?

The more people that think that way, and the more evil people will reign.

And I so wanted to visit Basra's famous nude beaches.

On a serious note, how did countries like Yemen and Colombia where kidnappings are rampant not make the list. I also find it strange that countries like Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, where civil war is only a single bullet away, did not make the list.

2006-02-23 09:19:44 PM
I'd stay away from some certain hunting ranches in Texas myself.

Pelton is already done these, a zillion times in NGA. I finally quit reading the articles since it's the same crap. These places shouldn't even be considered destinations, it's not like you're going to Mexico and they tell you to avoid certain taxies or going to Kingston and to avoid the city all together.

/got robbed in Kingston
//Welcome to Jamaica, mom, gimme your f**** wallet

For some reason a line from a TV show that I can't remember popped into my head.

"THANK YOU CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!!!"

I think this calls for a photoshop contest, what kind of advertising would be needed?

Thanks, you get my point. While I really care for this woman, she is a good person, her superstition has clouded her ability to reason.

What the hell is "Asia"?

Things must not be as bad as varezz claims.

I prefer to be called Captain Geography. I'm here to save the world from geographic ignorance.

rob.d:I think this calls for a photoshop contest, what kind of advertising would be needed?

I can imagine one of the slogans now.

"Papaua New Guinea, 4 days without a tourist being eaten by cannibals*

*-Check with your travel agent for unscheduled changes"

2006-02-23 09:28:19 PM
"The world has always been a dangerous place. From the black plague to avian flu, Attila the Hun to Osama bin-Laden..."

Stopped reading right there.

Like people who keep mixing up Slovakia and Slovenia?

The submitter said vacation destinations. The article called them travel destinations. You know, business travel.

Yes. Slovakia was formerly part of a country known as Czechoslovakia in eastern Europe. Whereas Slovenia, a coastal alpine country further to the south, was fomerly part of a county known as Yugoslavia. Slovakia also produces a hockey team superior to the hockey teams produced by both Canada and the United States.

Captain Geography strikes again!

I have a year long hunting trip to Iraq starting in August. I am hoping Dick Cheney doesnt decide to come with, even though it was his idea.
