I remember playing this game when it was called The Incredible Machine.

2006-02-20 09:38:01 AM
Yeah, but it was easier when it was The Incredible Machine. The ball moved faster, too.

Still, I forsee my entire morning being lost to this.

I remember the Incredible Machine, found it rereleased on cd some years ago, bought it out of nostalgia, but there was no speed controls and on my pc at the time (p1 233mhz)the machine ran so fast I couldn't troubleshoot it :(

anyone know if theres a working version of it anywhere like underdogs?

/Get that mouse, kitty!

There was a photoshop thread last week with a Rube Goldman theme. In that thread were download links for The Incredible Machine and TIM: Even More Contraptions.

I think there are 4 total in the series. I know the original one I bought ran on my P3-800. I found two in a bargin bin at a computer show and one on usenet. One of the few games that still are fun to drag out every once in a while.

2006-02-20 09:58:30 AM
Yeah, The Incredible Machine, I used to love that game.

2006-02-20 10:03:14 AM
Yeah, good times, good times.

never heard of it.

2006-02-20 10:03:36 AM
I still have the Mac version that will run under OS9 or in Classic in OSX.

2006-02-20 10:04:33 AM
The 4th incredible machine game was speed-controlled and works fine on any machine. I still have it around here--it had about 180 puzzles or something and was without a doubt one of if not the most fun game I have ever played, ever.

2006-02-20 10:05:40 AM
Yeah, I'll admit I like teagames' games. But since I have to work today, I'll hold off...oh wait this is kinda fun, but I really have to...hey I'm already on level four can't stop now.

Am I a dolt? Why does nothing happen when I click start?

2006-02-20 10:09:26 AM
Spontaneous Defenstration , what was the fourth one titled? I think the cd blink speed one I bought was the "even more" incredible machine

/also, <3 yer screen name.

jblankenburg

Thanks a lot for posting those before they had a chance to figure them out on the West Coast.

2006-02-20 10:21:13 AM
A bit less fun when you're limited to the number of tries per level. WTF! Just let me keep trying till I get it already! And yes, each iteration of The Incredible Machine was just way better.

2006-02-20 10:22:08 AM
How is it the level I got stumped on wasn't any of those 14?

2006-02-20 10:27:13 AM
FakePlasticAlex

I could have posted the pics inline. I've had those for a week or so, and thought I'd provide them for those that get stumped.

Just a public service, not trying to ruin anyone's day.

Haha, no, no. I was just joking. I was just thinking of all those people complaining about the stories/threads involving the Olympics, is all.

2006-02-20 10:36:27 AM
Oh boy. Thank God I have the day off.

2006-02-20 10:39:09 AM
wow, first time i've ever heard of something online before i saw it on fark.com!

been stuck on one of the levels to long, must waste more time on this game.

bmx highlands is also fun.

2006-02-20 10:39:51 AM
I hate you, submitter.

/not really
//waaaaay too addictive

2006-02-20 10:40:21 AM
Ah...I want my Incredible Machine back. *pout*

2006-02-20 10:41:59 AM
there goes my day :(

2006-02-20 10:49:24 AM
TIM: Even More Contraptions works fine on systems nowadays, and I've found it even works under Wine on Linux.

2006-02-20 10:57:05 AM
Hmm... Sounds familiar... (pops)

/downloadable

I just found my disk. The version I was talking about that is speed-controlled is version 3. Its called "The Incredible Machine" (Version 3.0) and is a 1995 game. The Even More Incredible Machine is Version 2.0, I think.

2006-02-20 11:11:07 AM
Wow, Home of the Underdogs has it for a 30MB download, if you want it. I doubt it includes the CD quality music though (the game has two options: MIDI and CD music, IIRC)

Just found this last night. It's a HL2 Rube Goldberg Machine video. Kind cool, although someone had too much time on their hands.

Oh, boy...totally geeking out here...never played The Incredible Machine ( I became a geek later in-life, after I burned all the Redneck out)

So much for working this morning, but hey who needs money when you have fun games?

...soooo glad I'm a writer, I can call this reasearch..yeah thats it boss, I missed my deadline because I was doing RESEARCH! Uh huh, yep...

2006-02-20 11:19:38 AM
Speaking of which, I'm going to go back and play the Incredible Machine now--I just have to. Because this time I will beat EVERY LAST ONE of the Very Very Very Hard puzzles ^_^

2006-02-20 11:35:51 AM
I did some of those harder puzzles in a much different way than the spoilers.

/Wouldn't think there were too many ways to get the ball there...

2006-02-20 11:39:33 AM
I love this thing! I'm so glad they came out w/7 new puzzles. I've already beaten all of them, so I hope they make more

2006-02-20 11:59:09 AM
hey jblankenburg, you're solution for number seven cracked me up...All you have to do is make a loop above the ball and put the pusher thing underneath it.

/i showed this to my six yr old brother and he came up with some pretty crazy ones that worked as well.
//he go to level 12 or 13
///i'm proud

2006-02-20 12:04:38 PM
jblankenburg those were some of the most complicated ways of completing these puzzles that I've ever seen

how long did it take you to come up with that #7 config??

2006-02-20 12:05:32 PM
and jeez, 13 is a lot easier than that too!

2006-02-20 12:13:02 PM
ph0enix1211 and anyone else who didn't know.

There are several utilities to slow down your machine so oldware will run on it properly. Search for 'slow.exe' on teh interweb. I use another one at home, but I'm not there right now... and can't remember the name. Try download.com for a few others.

2006-02-20 12:55:09 PM
Those were fun.

2006-02-20 01:40:38 PM
I prefer this one

Whizzball!

2006-02-20 02:40:22 PM
ph0enix1211 - GameTap has "The Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions". It's got a 14 day trial too, so you could probably get a play through of the game that way and then cancel.

In interest of full disclosure, I do work for them, though in an admittedly very minor role (which isn't related to advertising. I just like the product. :p).

2006-02-20 02:56:13 PM
okay ... how the farking fark does the farking seventh one of the farking new farking ones go, for fark's sake?

/please?

2006-02-20 03:24:54 PM
I just wasted my entire break playing that stupid game. Damn.

2006-02-20 03:32:57 PM
Well crap! I've been playing around with this for a month now. You mean to tell me that I could have gotten a greenlit link if I had bothered to submit this? Dammit!

2006-02-20 04:21:08 PM
Incredible Machine was amazing...jblankenburg, cool thing is that i solved many of my puzzles differently

2006-02-20 05:24:41 PM
labberdasher

I have the answer, what do you have to offer?

2006-02-20 08:30:14 PM
fyi, jblankenburg's solutions aren't the only ones. I solved most puzzles past lvl 7 differently than he did.

2006-02-21 12:03:17 AM
I finally figured out the last of the new levels. No fancy pictures but here is a description.

Upward nudges at (4,5) and (9,1)
Halfpipe has its bottom end at (11,2) and top at (12,3)
Treadmill spans (13,4) to (14,4)

The origin is at the bottom left (duh), so the bottom-leftist square is (1,1).

Anybody find another way?

2006-02-21 02:01:35 AM
Foobert

Those must be the funniest things I've seen in months.

2006-02-21 02:26:05 AM
im sure someone must've found an easier solution to #3 of the new ones than this, right?

/took me like 20 minutes

2006-02-21 09:22:05 AM
arod slaps balls, that solution rocks. Nicely done.
