Can't lie, I would have paid too.

/Didnlt like gym

2006-02-16 12:51:06 PM
i would have been all over that, and gladly.

2006-02-16 12:58:45 PM
Damn, I wish my evil gym teacher would've done that.

2006-02-16 01:16:27 PM
But he didn't charge them anything to climb the ropes?

2006-02-16 01:20:05 PM
Man was gym a waste.

2006-02-16 01:22:48 PM
Dumbass forgot to contribute to School Board reelection campaigns.

2006-02-16 01:29:49 PM
I'd buy that for a dollar!

2006-02-16 01:30:45 PM
ah, dear florida tag

2006-02-16 01:30:57 PM
I would have paid $1 each day just to go to gym class. Dodgeball ruled.

2006-02-16 01:31:50 PM
see, the government just screws over the small business entrepeneur. sigh!

2006-02-16 01:32:08 PM
While I didn't mind most of the gym class, I would have paid to get out of the two months of swimming we had to suffer through.

Wait, they still have gym classes in schools???? I thought gym teachers were replaced with Little Debbie/Hostess vending machines.

2006-02-16 01:32:08 PM
Sadly my gym teacher would never have offered this. He was one of the "vicariously reliving my youth through my male students while simultaneously watching my underage female students bounce" types, couldn't be bought.

/Amazing they found a gym coach who wasn't that type.

2006-02-16 01:32:34 PM
Given that most gym teachers are just coaches that need some kind of teaching job to get hired, the kids are likely better off this way. They learned a REAL life lesson... The ones with the money do what they want, and the rest of us get to climb the rope all day.

2006-02-16 01:33:19 PM
Gym class was a given A+ Just show up & pretend to make an effort. Easy way to pad the GPA a bit.

If you went to school in Florida, you'd know gym was one of the more educational classes :p

2006-02-16 01:33:49 PM
Man, gym IS such a waste. What possible benefit could it present for the increasingly overweight youth of America?

/sarcasm?

Don't forget about the other type, butch man-hating lesbians.

Hell, I would've paid TWO dollars a day to stay the hell out of gym.

Farkin' fascists.

2006-02-16 01:35:10 PM
Hmmm...my junior high never mandated gym...it was always an elective.

2006-02-16 01:35:39 PM
i feel like arguing over the internet...i think that this teacher was in the right

does anyone want to argue

2006-02-16 01:35:49 PM
Hmm. Who's the victim?

School board is probably just pissed they weren't in on it.

Actually, now that I think about it, the victims are the students. How will they function in society without dodgeball skills?

I often ponder where I would be if I had never had the opportunity to play kickball.

Heh, for a charity fundraiser in 6th grade one class auctioned themselves off as "servants" for a day. The idea was that you could have them carry your books or something. I bought a jock and made him go to my music class and do rhythmic clapping while I went to gym and played mat-ball.

/neither he nor the music teacher ever forgave me for that

Doogie Howser

Because having their peers (and often the coach) laugh at them when they can't perform athletically is just the motivation those fat kids need to start loving excercise.

Sir Charles

I did forget those, my apologies.

2006-02-16 01:37:13 PM
The problem is that no gym class I ever had really had an emphasis on actually EDUCATING kids about physical health. It was a chance for the kids in sports to show off and talk to the coach, and a chance for the teacher to stare at underage girls' boobies w/o being labeled a pedophile. The ones the teacher didn't like were sat out by the teacher, or sent to do impossible tasks. There WAS no point.

Is being dumb a prereq for being a gym teacher ?

One of mine, in 2nd grade, was double-dumb. First, doing a manoeuver, I broke my leg. I KNEW it was broken; I was only 8, but I had broken it 2 years before that, so I knew how it felt. He didn't believe me, thought I was a crybaby, made me sit on a bench for the rest of the course (like 30 minutes). Then, once everyone left, he told me "C'mon get up big baby", and made me walk for the lenght of the whole gymnasium and then some more. My mom was so angry they sent me a private teacher home 2 days a week so we wouldn't sue the living hell outta them (which we wouldn't have done, but they didn't know that).

Then, a few years later, I learned that he was in jail for pedophilia. Once I heard that, I remembered that he often said "Allright boys go play soccer outside, girls do gymnastics inside" and he would "help" them do the tricks (thus "feeling" them). What a farking asshole. I'm glad he's rotting in jail.

But, on a sidenote, gym IS essential in school, no matter what you guys say. I know, some people are more intellectual, I'm one of these people, but I regret not having a more active, healthy life right now. Soon to be 26, I'm working hard to change this; I can't walk a mile without my legs hurt like a bit for fark sake. I sure as hell regret not taking more sports while I was younger.

School board is probably just pissed they weren't in on it.

They're all as crooked as Al Capone.

At least Al Capone didn't host lopsided softball games.

This year it's a felony, next year it will be school district policy. The difference being the cost and who keeps the money.

Grammar Nazi armband on and....Go!...

The headline should read either:
Middle school teacher in trouble after allowing his students to pay him a dollar a day to get out of gym class

or

Middle school teacher in trouble after allowing his students to pay him $1 a day to get out of gym class

/Not that I really care about this
//why am I even posting?

I would have paid $1 a day to get out of a week of square dancing. That week sucked. Especially that creepy prospecter guy on the record that told us to prominade.

Gym was ass for me, and a GPA nuker. In middle school I slowly dropped from an A to a B from 7th to 8th grade. Then in High School that dropped like a rock to a C then a D. Why you may ask? Was I being a smartass? Was I not playing basketball, volleyball/whatever the hell they were having us do? No and no. I simply couldn't make their arbitrary mile long rule in under 10 minutes. Short legs+long torso=5"8 guy who can't run for shiat.

Oh and the times I had a bad ingrown toenail and my sock was the only thing keeping my shoe from filling with blood? Yeh, they didn't give a damn and still made me do extra push-ups.

/fortunately that gym teacher was fired for showing up drunk at a fund raiser
//still had a shiatty GPA until 2nd semester of my Junior year
///eff gym

Thread deserves a HERO tag.

Oh, man. I wish I'd had this guy for a teacher. I would have skipped pretty much every day that we weren't playing Dodge Ball.

The kid who told their parents and got him busted deserves the mother of all wedgies.

2006-02-16 01:43:38 PM
I'm going to go against everybody and say that this guy is a disgrace. It's not bad enough that we're raising a generation of fat, lazy kids. Now we have our teacher's collecting money for it. I'm not saying that every child has to be a jock, but they should make an effort to be HEALTHY, which includes daily exercise.

They will just have to watch like the rest of us.

/If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball
//If you can dodge a car, you can dodge a ball
///If you can type slashies, you can dodge a ball

2006-02-16 01:44:17 PM
I would have only skipped it on days we had to run for a mile. So It would have cost me like $20 a year.

/was on track team
/sprinter
/leave the 1 mile running to the cross country folks

2006-02-16 01:44:31 PM
trouble? fark, i would have praised my teachers as a saint if i could get out of gym each day. I farking hated that damn class.

2006-02-16 01:44:39 PM
Sounds like a plan to me. Kids offer me cash all the time to forget that they need to turn things in....

/say yes to supplementary income
//especially if you're a sub, like me

I have the same sort of regrets, but even if I had taken more sports in school I think I would still be where I am today because physical education as you said is not about educating kids on physical fitness or keeping them in shape. In elementary school it's to get them out of the teacher's hair for a while and release some of their overabundance of energy. In junior high and high school it's to keep the jocks' GPA up so they don't get kicked off their teams. If you are already out of shape going into a PE class it will not improve you in any way because the vindictive pedophile coach expects you to already be in shape when you get there.

2006-02-16 01:45:00 PM
I would just like to remind everyone that before this becomes a one sided anti gym teacher flamewar that my mom is a gym teacher, is not a man hating lesbian and anyone who rips on gym teachers is getting a swift kick in the nuts. I'm lookin at you Sir Charles

/rolls up sleeve

2006-02-16 01:45:13 PM
Personally, I think this is an awesome idea from the teacher's prospective, and I so would've done it in his position (well, the getting fired part probably would keep me away)

2006-02-16 01:46:28 PM
Hector I agree, but isn't that something that parents should have a hand in impressing upon a child, instead of some dopey asshole that just makes fun of them for not being good enough at whatever idiot activity they have going on?

2006-02-16 01:46:45 PM
Stupid parents ruin everything. I would have paid $20 a day to skip the publicly humiliating torture session known as Physical Education.

2006-02-16 01:46:48 PM
I think this is awesome, it is actually teaching children the value of their time in relation to money. I would have paid $5 a day all through high school..... bummer for the teacher. The children should all be suspended to for being lazy insolent little farkards

Capt. Happy Hour: I would have paid $1 a day to get out of a week of square dancing. That week sucked. Especially that creepy prospecter guy on the record that told us to prominade.

In third grade, I jumped on a nail by accident (hidden under the snow). I was miserable (pain, shots, etc) until I realized that I got out of square dancing in gym class. Suddenly it was the BEST thing that happened to me that year. Everyone was so jealous I got to sit out of that crap.

2006-02-16 01:49:11 PM
This needs a hero tag.

/ Damn I wish my teachers would have offered something like this.
// Or some sort of DDR.
/// Too bad it wasn't out during the early '90s...
