Spazzm, That's not a problem with english units, that's a problem with unit mismatch. Same thing would happen if it was sending reports back in cm and you thought it was m.

BIG UP to NICU folks everywhere! My girl was only 9 weeks early--2lbs, 14 oz, a giant compared to this little one, and we thought she was pretty damn tiny. When she came home at 4.5lbs her little keister still fit comfortably in one hand. NICU staff are some medical bad asses--they are on the front line really for babies' survival in the first couple of weeks of life, when all the things that could go wrong are discovered, and they're there for the parents as well. We got very lucky with our girl, but our nurse was shared with a couple of other babies, and it was heartbreaking to watch them have to counsel folks who's kids weren't doing well, or who had serious medical problems. It's hard enough to see a child in the hospital, it's even harder to see the life you just brought into the world walled off from you for weeks on end, knowing you're not there for so many hours of the day. These folks deserve a great big round of applause, and so do the staff at the hospital who got them through it.

when my son was born I had to share a room with a lady whose baby was stillborn, talk about cruel! She cried all the time, so we tried to keep our "happiness" as quiet and subdued as possible....

Ahhhh, the outside comments? They have been mighty fine today. The Mr Drew is in the zone of happiness.

Errr, it *is* Drew, isn't it?

"She really had the will to live, she was strong and lively," said the pediatrician

*senses an impending abortion debate*

Are you just saying that because her birth weight would indicate that she was still eligible for a 2nd trimester abortion?

Gonadotron

not a miracle. too many people already.

People who bring this up never seem to see themselves as part of the problem. Are you willing to sacrifice yourself to reduce the population problem?

What is this crap with all the "I'm a premie"'s?!

Who gives a rats ass?!

I'm a normal 21 year-old guy, I masturbate 6 times a day, and I dont look anything like Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise.

Where's my FARKing cookie/ribbon/medal?!?!

Why cant people just be normal, dammit?

My neice was born at 29 weeks, weighed 3 lbs, 4 oz. Her first bottle was a test tube with a nipple on it. She's a very healthy 5-year-old today and that child has more spirit in her than the rest of the family combined. I love hearing stories like this one...they make you appreciate how valuable the medical community (especially nurses) really is. (or are? Been awhile since 2nd grade.)
