Simi Valley, California. Taken from my middle bedroom window, October 2003, at about 3:30am. Obviously, massive fires in the hills. Same hills as in the second photo. Did not get much sleep that night. The first photo was take by me, the second one is a professional news photo taken from a different angle that I included for context.

Story behind the image:

I pass the Orangefair Mall in Anaheim, CA every day on my way to work. Almost 2 years ago, the place underwent a major facelift which revealed some interesting results--the names of the original businesses.

This was the most interesting one I found, obviously done before the days when neon and flourescent tube signs were popular. I mean, can you imagine? An ice cream/candy store? That place must have rocked.

A few days after this was shot the name was painted over and covered with a new facade. I love coming across stuff old like this :)

Where in Cambridge is that? I know that Mass ave and Albany St. intersect next to Boston Medical Center in the South End. If they intersect in cambridge too, google maps isn't being very forthcoming.

You sure you didn't get your photos mixed up? McCarran Airport looks nothing like that. It certainly doesn't have any water around it.

nanded It's just before you get to MIT campus.. try searching for "Albany St, Cambridge, MA" in google.. that will get you to the right place. Right next to the train tracks which you can see on the left in the photo.

One more.

[image from farkimages.com too old to be available]

This was taken with my LG phone-cam from my car, hence the poor quality. It's smoke from the wildfires that were burning about a week ago in the Anaheim (CA) Hills.

nanded Actually, if you find that in Google, click Satellite view and zoom in all the way. You can see the tree next to the street, and the white tank that vents the steam in the background as well as the train tracks.

HansBlix: / Slugging through rush-hour traffic in Ottawa

Looks like the Moodie Dr offramp. Ottawa's rush-hour traffic is annoying but I wouldn't complain as I have never seen grid-lock except downtown during the last big black-out. Mind you the city hasn't kept up with population increases and if they don't do something in the next couple years it is going to get a lot worse.

Actually, now that you mention it, I did get them mixed up. This picture is of Salt Lake City International Airport, and was taken on a trip to Vegas.
