So wait... they made them valedictorian?

That is all.

-Got Spider??

2002-05-25 04:54:31 PM
Damn, school nowadays is confussing. Grade school students taking middle school courses, middle school students taking high school courses and so forth. What ever happened to kids being kids?

2002-05-25 04:57:44 PM
"That's a tough nut for him to swallow."

Geez, where's my mind at?

2002-05-25 04:58:25 PM
Damn. Way to competitive. Kids, get a life. You're a teenager. You're supposed to have fun, not worry about if you're graduating first in your class.

"It's been a tough nut for him to swallow."

Huh-huhuhuh-huh-huh

2002-05-25 05:04:01 PM
geigh

2002-05-25 05:04:58 PM
i finished a happy 82nd in a non-competitive school (yesterday) and made it into UF as well. and im planning on going there. salutatorian means shiat.

2002-05-25 05:06:59 PM
Who cares.

My HS class had co-valedictorians. One got a free ride to Stanford, the other a free ride to UC Davis. They both got into all that "bad" stuff that the rest of us "losers" had gotten out of our system in HS. Both dropped out.

2002-05-25 05:07:36 PM
man, that argument was all over the place, and Valedictorian does mean shiat if you go to UF: they give you 500 bucks for your effort. I spent mine on booze.

Nerds

2002-05-25 05:08:45 PM
Hah, what a bunch of idiots. People who care so much about being better than others need to shut up.

2002-05-25 05:09:43 PM
I read it, and I still don't understand what happened.

2002-05-25 05:09:50 PM
Wine or whine?

2002-05-25 05:10:41 PM
Well I read the article. Hnuh??? That was a very hard to understand article. Maybe it would be easier if I was in the US school system, I dunno :0/

But I think that relying on GPAs is silly. Better to judge people (if you must) on cumulative points.

2002-05-25 05:10:45 PM
In two months, no one will care. High school matters about as much as that penny you dropped out of your pocket a couple days ago.

That happened in my high school too. Unfortunately it happened to me.

:(

my little sister went to that high school. it's like the 90210 of the east. kids driving up to school in bentleys and aston martins.
no she does not have one of those. she took the bus.

2002-05-25 05:15:24 PM
i have absolutely no idea what that article said. you would have to be the valedictorian to even figure out the system they have at that school.

2002-05-25 05:16:44 PM
They'll soon be getting into drugs and then their former supposed intelligence will just be a faded memory.

2002-05-25 05:16:48 PM
NERDS!!!!!

2002-05-25 05:21:27 PM
In a way, he got what he deserved. I bet he was thinking, "hmmm... I can take a college class (lots of grade points) on wine tasting (alcohol), what could be better?".

But, he got screwed in the end. I would have sympathy if he had intended to take a difficult class.

He claims the class ended up being difficult, but I seriously doubt he was expecting to have to put forth serious effort.

2002-05-25 05:26:10 PM
geeze...would you like some whine to go with...uh...nevermind

2002-05-25 05:26:42 PM
Who's Watson: Damn that "Belch" By Ogre kicked Ass! Yet you could tell that Belch from Booger was videotaped expanded or rerun to make his burp sound longer. It was fantastic!

2002-05-25 05:29:40 PM
Ogre is one of my fave characters ever in a movie. The first "Nerds" film is a classic.

2002-05-25 05:30:35 PM
Anonymous: The kid who claimed he got screwed (Church) was not the one who took the wine class (Springer).

Church is mad because Springer's grade was inflated by a class that Church (or at least, his parents) thought was inappropiate, as deemed by the student handbook.

2002-05-25 05:31:08 PM
Watson: Yup! ONLY THE FIRST ONE! Definitely a classic!

2002-05-25 05:32:18 PM
Also, Springer never tasted any wine. So why he took it is anybody's guess.

2002-05-25 05:33:39 PM
What's next including the grades from Kindergarten in the formula for class rankings?

2002-05-25 05:34:07 PM
Whaddaya mean I can't use my "Wines of the World" course as credit?????????

2002-05-25 05:35:43 PM
Seriously, Mom. Its my homework.

2002-05-25 05:36:33 PM
There are a whole lotta of farked up things going on here.

#1) Kids are so competitive at that school they take high school classes in middle school and college classes in high school.

Comment: Ive got 3 words for all of yall: GET A LIFE

2) This kids parents are biatching up a storm because their sun lost by a few points.

Comment: STFU

3) The grade race once ruined a 7 year friendship

Comment: How very farking sad that in some stupid contest for grades they let themselves turn into assholes. Its not like it matters anyway. They are both gonna up drinking too much spending too much time at a job they both hate so they can drive much too expensive cars.

2002-05-25 05:38:39 PM
Hey guys, READ the article.

The student who took the FARKING wine class got a BETTER ranking and took salutatorian from the other student.

2002-05-25 05:38:58 PM
Anonymous-

Err, it was the guy who got Salutorian (Springer) who took
the wine class. You're supposed to feel sympathy for
the "poor" guy Church who attended private middle school
(*sniff*).

The wine class is a red herring, it didn't matter.
" Even with his A in the wine class, Springer wouldn't have made it to the salutatorian's post without dropping the grades he received for high school classes he took in middle school. "

Springer got to drop his public middle school grades from consideration. Church went to private middle school and couldn't. The article was poorly written and unclear
about the real issue.

2002-05-25 05:43:23 PM
This isn't hard to understand. If you are in high-school and you didn't understand, way to be a dumbass. You should at least know this much, even if you aren't in the top 150 of your school.

Class rank depends on the GPA. Those who take classes with more weights and credits have advantages. Therefore, kids seek to get ahead by taking heavier classes.

Figure it out from there.

2002-05-25 05:43:54 PM
Springer got to drop his public middle school grades from consideration. Church went to private middle school and couldn't.

anonymous: you got this part wrong. the point is that church went to a private middle school, so his middle school grades were never counted to begin with. that's why they made it fair by dropping the middle school grades for those kids like Springer who went to public school - to be on an even playing field with the kids who got to go to private school.

2002-05-25 05:44:55 PM
To make myself clearer: I understand that the article was poorly written and it's objectives are hazy, but you should at least know what determines class rank.

2002-05-25 05:47:58 PM
Eternity: Not all Farkers are Amurricans. Our secondary system is pretty different from yours. The system I was in did not rank students by GPA and did not weigh courses. It did not allow you to take University courses in high school and did not allow any classes that were not taken at the high school level to count towards your high school totals. That sounds a lot simpler and better to me.

I'm sorry I can't live in America and understand your system better.

Forgive me?

2002-05-25 05:48:58 PM
Are they both going to be lawyers? Or just regular asshawls?

2002-05-25 05:50:26 PM
So they all had grade point averages that were above the 5.000 system designed maximum. Gee this must be kinda what it is like when someone says "Well I gave it 110% today". I learned something of value in this article but I already lost it.

2002-05-25 05:51:09 PM
Thanks Holmie00 - you're right, I farked that up.

2002-05-25 05:54:08 PM
2) This kids parents are biatching up a storm because their sun lost by a few points.

How did you graduate from high school?

Also ....

1) Kids are so competitive at that school they take high school classes in middle school and college classes in high school.

Unlike you, some people run out of classes to take quite quickly due to an advanced intellect. Not all people who take advanced classes are in it for the class rank - although that "Get a life" remark was pretty much right on. So back off, bit<h.

2002-05-25 05:55:56 PM
Can't we just beat the crap out of both of them and call it even?

2002-05-25 05:56:44 PM
If the big debate is actually about the middle school credits, then that's really lame.

2002-05-25 05:56:44 PM
Edit:

Unlike you, some people quite quickly run out of classes to take as a result of an advanced intellect.

2002-05-25 05:58:36 PM
Last year, the chase for the valedictorian's honor destroyed a seven-year friendship between the top two contenders, who went to Yale and Harvard.

if you ask me. I was 13th in my HS class. Two years later, does anyone care? No. Did I enjoy myself that much more for not busting my ass to get #1? You bet.

2002-05-25 06:15:18 PM
Oh boo farking hoo, a 5.12?

I'm in one of the top liberal arts programs in the country and I graduated from HS with a 2.3. GPA means dick.

2002-05-25 06:18:56 PM
Boywhite55, the kids were obviously taking the courses to boost their GPAs, and they were obviously doing so in order to best their peers. I bet you couldn't resist the 'advanced intellect' shot but please, spare us next time.

2002-05-25 06:19:46 PM
Actually, I'm still confused-
So Church isn't in second place because the Springer got to drop his public middle school grades which included high school courses. Church also took high school courses in middle school which were also not counted. So in other words, both kids' ranks were calculated only by classes taken during the four years they were at the private high school, and Springer really scored higher. Is that right? If so, wtf is Church biatching about?

2002-05-25 06:21:11 PM
Wines of the World?!? WTF? Was the prerequisite Intro to being a Douchebag??? When I was in school, you'd take Chemistry or Physics. You'd fail miserably after working days straight, attempt suicide and end up at some third-rate communtiy college being taught by some alcoholic loser supplementing his bowling alley income and you'd never biatch about it. We liked it.

...and he's named after his mom.

2002-05-25 06:29:52 PM
P-Funk

I KNOW THAT, DAMMIT!!! That's why I said "not all!" Those kids were obviously egomaniacal asses - my point was not all students who take advanced classes are ego-maniacs driven by the goal of being valedictorian; many are just not challenged by regular high school/middle school classes.

And a cheap shot for a cheap shot, that's what I say.
