Time travel. I don't think so.

Ask one or both of these guys.

I would go back to medieval times and astound them with tales of horseless carriages, silver birds that soar through the sky and ways of making light with only the flick of a finger. I would tell them I would use this knowledge to improve their lives if they make me their king.

And then once I became their king I would realise with a flash of utter horror...I don't have the first farking clue how to actually DO any of these thing. All these inventions were done by other people. I am nothing but a leech. I can't even make a pencil. Hell, they can shoe a horse but I couldn't even make an unpointy stick pointy.

However, I would have the palace guard kill any farker who pointed that out. Nobody screws with the King. You hear me?! NOBODY!

too late... this guy already found out:

A plane engine would probably fall through my roof on to my bed.
2002-05-24 02:27:48 PM
ya, and monkies might fly out of my butt!!
2002-05-24 02:28:43 PM
You want to travel through time? Try 100cc's of ketamine.
2002-05-24 02:28:48 PM
Great. We can't educate our children or feed the starving, but we might be able to use ghost radiation to keep a wormhold from collapsing so we can time travel.

Having said that, cool!
2002-05-24 02:28:51 PM
You beat me, NeverSay. Bravo!
2002-05-24 02:28:57 PM
Well, if cosmiverse says it's true...sign me up!
2002-05-24 02:29:03 PM
seriously, like this applies to me.
2002-05-24 02:29:23 PM
What would happen if an accurate headline for a Cosmiverse story was posted on Fark? Scientists now think it is possible, could lead to end of life as we know it.
2002-05-24 02:29:28 PM
And I can't even spell "wormhole" correctly.
2002-05-24 02:30:15 PM
Cosmiverse Sucks. Kip S. Thorne wrote in his readable and interesting book "Blackholes and Timewarps" the history of astrophysics along with the very reasons that a wormhole CANNOT be used for time travel: because the wormhole would self-destruct right before it was possible.
2002-05-24 02:30:35 PM
Of course Wormholes can lead to time travel, it was clearly illustrated in Star Trek, Epsisode #122...

Oh, like if I didn't say it, someone else wouldn't have...
2002-05-24 02:30:51 PM
BaconFarker where did you find that?
2002-05-24 02:31:25 PM
What about a time machine?
2002-05-24 02:31:27 PM
I like to go in holes.
2002-05-24 02:33:03 PM
You want to time travel?

I'll kick your ass into next week, no charge.
2002-05-24 02:34:08 PM
Frank Lee Mental = LOL!
2002-05-24 02:34:16 PM
My hero, Carl Sagan, said it best.
2002-05-24 02:35:15 PM
According to a recent report in New Scientist, Hayward and Shinkai found that matter traveling through wormholes adds positive energy

So it's a Zen thing?
2002-05-24 02:35:34 PM
You know... the one thing I always wonder about time travel:

If it's possible, then why the hell haven't we seen any time travelers? You know damn well that if, in the distant future, it's possible, then some retard's going to come back and fark things up. Some time-travelling retard would show up:

TTR: "Wow, you guys suck! Don't you have flying cars figured out yet? Roflololol!!"
2002-05-24 02:35:43 PM
This article is so far behind. Everybody knows wormholes are found in phone booths.

So if Cosmiverse had boobies like the SbB posts have then you guys wouldn't biatch? They are both just cut and paste sites.

Cosmiverse give us teh boobiesez!

This article is true.

And if you can just turn yourself inside out, you'll be invisible!
2002-05-24 02:37:24 PM
I can't imagine another "Big Bang" being good for the universe thats already here.

2002-05-24 02:38:58 PM
Instead of reading Cosmoverse, you should be reading "The Philosophy of Time Travel."
2002-05-24 02:39:35 PM
If I could travel though time I would go first to the 50's and give away high tech things like the 1ghz Athlon to research groups. Then I'd come back here and enjoy the life with money made from the research and a 1teraflops AMD QuadAthlon EXP Pro Turbo (tm). (that should run Morrowind, right?)
2002-05-24 02:40:06 PM
"James T. Kirk 17 separate temporal violations."

"The man's a menace."

See what happens when you start time travel! Other time periods are treated to bad acting. Stop the insanity!
2002-05-24 02:40:30 PM
I watched this show about time travel once.. it laid the plane of reality out like a pool table. the ball represents the time traveler and each pocket represents a different point in time.

So the paradox is this.. what if the ball gets knocked into one pocket (in the present) and comes out of another pocket (in the past) and hits itself.. thus preventing itself from entering the first pocket in the first place.. Gawd.

So that pretty much stated that there are set physics to time travel.. namely, that no matter what, you can't change the past. No matter what.

My head hurts now.

Well, it certainly wouldn't hurt.

Astronomers? Yes, but of course, they always say that after they've been into the telescope lubricant.

Pay them no heed, nothing good will come of this..

Saying you can time travel implies that time is a location. This is not so, time is a concept and a system of measurement.

I won't go into speed of light or relativity, so don't worry.

Call me when someone actually invents a TARDIS
2002-05-24 02:53:25 PM
Cosmiverse is behind the times. Ghost radiation? Bah, everyone knows all you need to thread the mouth of a wormhole is any kind of exotic matter with a negative energy gradient with respect to light passing through a nearby region of space. And, of course, any virtual particles created in the quantum foam are naturally exotic in regions of extreme space-time curvature, as would be found in a wormhole.

Nurse! Bring me my medicine!
2002-05-24 02:55:36 PM
If time travel were possible, I would go back 75 million years and kick the shiat out of Xenu. Then BlackWolf would be the God of Scientology!!!
2002-05-24 02:58:40 PM
And then one day you find that ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

"add too much ghost radiation, and the wormhole explodes into a new universe that would expand at the speed of light"

so basically I could be god to a whole new universe? rockin.

See Asimov, we answered your "Last Question" several trillion years early. Suck it.

Black/White/Worm Hole FAQ - dunno how up to date this is (1995), but it makes more sense in one paragraph than Comsimiverse does in a week's worth of posts. There are also some references at the bottom if you're looking for more info. Just found it the other day, so I thought I'd pass it along.

i refuse to believe anything anyone says about wormholes, black holes and the like, untill one of them actually goes into one and takes a look around.

besides, time travel is impossible.
