It's "Sheet-heads"

/just sayin'

OK, which one of you Farkers put the "O rly?" comment in the entry that I just had to edit out?

Boooo-urns!

Not sure how much new this says about Burns, but it speaks volumes about the (non-)accountability of Wikipedia and wikis in general.

2006-02-09 04:11:42 PM
I don't really see how raghead or towelhead are that offensive. Lame, bigoted, and ignorant maybe, but not really touching on any real sensitive point. I'm not apologizing for him, but its pretty weak.

"sand attractive and successful African-American" on the other hand, makes my blood boil.

2006-02-09 04:12:56 PM
Haha. Montana.

VileVince... It's been a while since I saw that form reply...

Where did it originate from anyway?

Conrad Burns. Didn't he play the father on Diff'rent Strokes?

2006-02-09 04:15:45 PM
did he change it to "towelheads"?

It was some guy claiming to work for the US Mint. He did really get a kick out of some of the replies, though.

Wikipedia needs to get over itself.

Often handy for some quick reference data, but let's not act like this is some sort of religious tome or grand literary work worthy of any great deal of respect.

Is anyone surprised that an open-source work on the intrawebs has asshats the world over making a mess of it?

2006-02-09 04:18:44 PM
And his Wikipedia entry has been amended to show his asshattery.

2006-02-09 04:20:12 PM
Can someone explain to me why there's a supposed "reference guide" that can be edited by anyone?

SockMonkeyHolocaust:

whidbey: If I were at Wikipedia, I would forbid any governmental revisionist action.

Then you forbid them their opportunity to tell their side of the story and correct the "facts"

I have to agree with whidbey, block all senate/house/state legislature ip addresses from edit and let their staffers haXor their entries on their own time from their homes, not on my dime.

2006-02-09 04:21:25 PM
Not only do I see no problem with this, but I condone and admire the initiative. Won't you join me? It's doubleplusgood!

2006-02-09 04:21:53 PM
I think the hilarious part is that they logged the IP address and his office still denied it. I didn't think that many people outside of Bozeman would understand what logging an IP address means and this just supports that.

I don't think many people care about this wiki asshattery as long as Burns keeps bringing in federal money, but when your state is 50th on the list in terms of income and wages, the mark isn't set all that high.

Maybe he should add to the entry that he'll be defeated in his reelection bid in November. Jack Abrahamoff much?

While obviously not typical of most Republicans, I find it so interesting that nearly all of the people I know who say shiat like this are Republicans?

That's because while not all Republicans are racist, all racists are Republican.

Until I realized no one was farking with this entry...

It's true?

Like clockwork, D_in_A.

Now come up with something that's been true since I was alive.

Oh, and you might want to stay away from photoshops because, well, they're lies.

The NAACP, the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization, awarded Byrd a 100% rating in its Congressional score card, based on his pro-civil rights votes.

And that looks to be from before '74, so you lose again.

wikis and senators are both TEH SUCK.

IMO, burn wikipedia to the ground, then amend the constitution to stipulate that no senator may ever run for president.

World of improvement on all fronts.

Ha, I fixed a self-reference.

2006-02-09 04:38:17 PM
Which is why Wikipedia sucks. Precisely because anyone can edit it. Sure, this article was caught and fixed - because it's political and high profile, but can you be so sure all the articles are equally policed? It's a great place to get ideas for further research, but it's not a good resource unless you have other sources to back up your findings.

Look like someone looked over Mr. Byrd's "White N-Bomb" comment.

2006-02-09 04:44:05 PM
In the late 1970s Wallace became a born-again Christian, and around the same time apologized to black Civil Rights leaders for his earlier segregationist views, calling these views wrong. He said that while once he had sought power and glory, he realized he needed to seek love and forgiveness. It was because of this change in his worldview that Wallace realized the harm his earlier segregationist rhetoric and views had caused. His final term as Governor (19831987) saw a record number of black Alabamians appointed to government positions.

And those people you just posted images of were elected to what office again?

2006-02-09 04:48:08 PM
Wow, Dancin_In_Anson, they had such vivid color photography back in the 40s! And Byrd looks so old for a guy who would have only been 30 or so when he was in the Klan.

Either that or people change, ass. It's been 60 years since he was a Klansman! And he's been sorry for it for 30, or at least says he is. Unlike Trent Lott, he doesn't publicly reminisce about the good old days of segregation.

2006-02-09 04:49:25 PM
That whole article paints this guy out to be a bigger douchebag than Kennedy, which is no small feat. The question is cliche, but how does this guy get re-elected?

Article on Wikipedia, that is.

jimmyhaha: Was he quoting noted racist James Baldwin?

So your boy Byrd used the N-Word in an interview a few years ago (no civil rights demonstrations over that?) and you manage to call someone else a racist because of it.

You would make one hell of a politician.

"I apologize for the characterization I used on this program. The phrase dates back to my boyhood and has no place in today's society.

"As for my language, I had no intention of casting aspersions on anyone of another race. In my attempt to articulate strongly held feelings, I may have offended people. . . ."

-Sen. Robert Byrd, for saying this...

"They are much, much better than they have ever been in my lifetime. As a personal opinion, I think we talk about race too much. I think those problems are largely behind us. I think we can all profit by our mistakes. I think we have reached a new plateau. And, I think it is going to keep going upward.- the understanding and race relations.
"I thinkI just think we talk so much about it we create somewhat of an illusion uhuhI think we should try to have good will. My old Mom told me, 'Robert, you can't go to heaven if you hate anybody.' We practice that."

"There are white attractive and successful African-Americans. I've seen a lot of white attractive and successful African-Americans in my time it you want to use that word. We allwe all just need to work together to make our country a better country.

"I'd just as soon quit talking about it so much."

Yea, he really sounds pretty vicious.

You know what's funny? All of my racists friends (and family members) are Republican, and none of my Democratic friends are racist.

What's your personal experience?

Come to Jones County, Texas...I'll hook you up with some good old skool Democrats.

No, I was just bringing up the landmark essay "The White Negro" by James Baldwin. It's a piece of literature, which comes in books now. You should check that out. As for "your boy Byrd", I never said anything in his defense at all. Switch to decaf, Daryman and don't switch out the water with Red Bull.

funny how the thread can't seem to stay on Burns.

how did we end up talking about Byrd ?

oh yeah....

Dancin_In_Anson is here

2006-02-09 05:13:35 PM
apparently there exist racist Democrats. therefore it is inappropriate to point out the abundance of racist Republicans.

Does that pretty much sum up the Republican position on the topic ?

Come to Jones County, Texas...I'll hook you up with some good old skool Democrats.

Yea, those are called "Republicans" nowadays.

Bush votes : 4,234

Kerry votes : 1,657

Now STFU, and/or admit that I'm right.

Burns and Byrd are both pork-barreling geniuses, though.

thewah: What's your personal experience?

That in politics it doesn't matter what you say or who you are, all that matters is the (D) or the (R) next to your name.

You can claim to know white ni**ers or say that Gandhi would make a good owner of gas stations or even make a distinction between African-Americans and Ordinary-Americans and get a pass thanks to the magic (D) next to your name.

But say something nice to an old man on his birthday...
