Now they just need to build a giant space station, and their journey to the darkside will be complete

A royal monarchy in which a woman is not allowed to rule? In this day and age in a non-Islamic country?

I really just don't get the Japanese sometimes. I'm the first to defend them in just about every incident of Western ethnocentricism, but they really are insanely behind the times in terms of social evolution.

2006-02-07 09:55:02 AM
Now she just has to say who the father is.

2006-02-07 09:55:37 AM
Doesn't she have her own line of japanese restaurants where chefs perform amazing culinary feats of skill before your very eyes?
/gotta love the crazy knife holster
//one of these days I'm going to go there and the chef is going to miss and stab himself in the hip
///only buy knives if they can cut cans
////not that I would, but if they can't cut cans what's the point of having them?

Empires are cool. Too bad they're all fake now. Stupid non-totalitarian Emperors. Lame, I tell you.

Actually this particular anachronism pisses off a lot of Japanese too. It's not like the entire country is in the streets demanding a male heir.

/also hopes it's a girl

If the headline is supposed to play on Kinko's, I really have to disagree with the "great headline" comments.

"So, Kiko has finally fulfilled her destiny! Good ... Good!"

Congrats Japan.

Come on, Japan, go for the Empress!

The impact on anime alone would be worth it.

From TFA:
Some critics have called for bringing back imperial concubines as were used until the early 20th century to breed male heirs.

I'm in favor of this idea. Especially if there are multiple concubines at once and the event is all recorded on video.

But no pixelization censorship please.

Royal Families: Living fat on tax payer money while serving no functional purpose since the last century.

I, for one, welcome our new concubine banging Japanese overlords.

(clap. clap. clap.)

Well done, submitter...

I have heard that Japan has the longest continuous dynasty in the world, which makes this a big deal for them. But considering the line of succession supposedly originated with the sun GODDESS Omikami Amaterasu (or Amaterasu Omikami, I'm never sure of the order, since some sources flip the eastern convention surname-given name/title convention to the western convention given name/title-surname) I'm not sure what the big deal is about having a male heir.

Also, I haven't really studied Japanese history, but there have been empresses in the past, such as Empress Go-Sakuramachi at the end of the 18th century.

Some people just love tradition for the sake of tradition. Let go.

Does it matter who's the heir? Do they even have any real power?

2006-02-07 10:36:02 AM
I would have made the headline. "NEWS FLASH: SOMEONE IN JAPAN GOT LAID. BIG NEWS, AND HOPE FOR ALL THE REST OF JAPAN."

2006-02-07 10:42:28 AM
OOooooohhhhh, Kiko be gettin' bussaaaayyy oooooooooh

I'd hope for a male & honor his mother by naming him Kikoman.

That's pretty lame, let me guess: You have no greenlit links, yes?
