"The Sci Fi Channel will this week broadcast live footage of the alien on its website. After further tests, Mr Broom will put it on his mantelpiece."

At least he has a sense of humour about it.

Prof Roberts admitted it could be a film prop dating from the 1960s, but said he was not surprised at US denials: "That is the US air force line. They deny these alien encounters. It is quite possible they concoct stories to cover up for more nefarious activities."

Like Iraq?

he's gonna put it on his mantle? he must be single...

It's nice for once to read a story about aliens where the discoverer is not a complete nutjob. This guy seems pretty normal and has a good sense of humor about it.

...and has a US serial number painted on its four-toed foot.

What is a US serial number? Is the UN now assigning serial numbers for countries to use? "OK - US - you use number 1 to 100, France, you use number 101-200,...."

I call horse pucky on this.

2006-02-06 11:57:00 AM
Is it possible the serial number is from the prank store it was originally purchased in? What exactly is a US Serial number anyway?

2006-02-06 11:57:37 AM
I'd hit it.

oops wrong use of cliche huh?

2006-02-06 12:02:47 PM
A sixty year-old baby? Damn. How long do those aliens live, anyway?

2006-02-06 12:03:23 PM
maybe it says "US 35761879" or something

2006-02-06 12:04:38 PM
.. ermm .. would it be too much that you take that thing out of its bottle, get it x'ray'ed/whatever, and then put it back in before you start calling it 'an alien'.

if its just a lump of clay dressed to look like an alien, it ain't an alien. thanks.

otherwise: HOLY MOLY!!!!!

i think people who believe in this alien autopsy bullshiat should be ridiculed. As much as those dopes who believe in big foot, loch ness, and other bullshiat.

A WWII U.S. military serial number was eight digits long, abd was expressed as a single, continuous string of values (i.e. 12345678).

Eventually (I don't know when the change happened) a GI's serial number was simply his nine-digit social security number and would be expressed in the standard SSN format, which inclulded hyphen breaks (i.e. 123-45-6789).

The denials prove that it's true!

2006-02-06 12:13:49 PM
Well...open the jar and cut the thing open!

Alien guts spill out - not a hoax

Plastic/paper mache/etc spills out - hoax

Here's a hint: But the mysterious discovery of an alien in his attic has spooked the 54-year-old screenwriter and bewildered extraterrestrial experts, who yesterday suggested the US military could be involved.

/solved.

I wonder if it tastes like the okra I pickled last year?
Lotsa gawlick.

Get some cells and clone it. Another good idea: mix some of its genes with wheat, so that we will have wheat fields that generate their own crop circles.

You know, I wouldn't holding that jar quite so close to me. Can you say "face hugger"?

Well there are NATO stock numbers. They are on most anything available throught the supply chain. Canada's number is 21.

Or something like that.

"After further tests, Mr Broom will put it on his mantelpiece."

You insensitive bastard.
Trust me, we've exterminated entire galaxies for less.

But, for now, we'll just see how proud he is of his discovery after we've shoved the entire contents of our cargo bay up his ass.

It's all the evil USAs fault! You know, they are always losing their jars full of pickled alien babies from their giant storerooms full of pickled aliens.

2006-02-06 12:36:00 PM
I call shenanigans. I mean, gimme a break. Could this be a more transparent publicity ploy for the SciFi Channel? Easy enough to debunk this whole thing.... open the jar and take a farking cell sample. Easy enough, then, to tell if it's clay,
"resin" or an actual biological sample.

Ah, but then we'd have no "Capone's Vaults"... er.... "Alien Mystery".

2006-02-06 12:36:48 PM
Curiously, the alien was discovered stored in an old toffee jar wrapped in a copy of the Daily Mirror dating from October 1947. In July of that year, officials at the American air base of Roswell reported and then denied finding the remains of a flying saucer.

Um, no. They did not "report .. finding the remains of a flying saucer." They reported finding some vague contraption which was small enough to fit in a duty officer's car trunk. It turned out to be a spy balloon that came down in some private citizen's field. For years there was basically no suspicion or infamy regarding the incident, then it started to get hyped in the mid-60s and all the embellishment happened. The USAF stupidly 'refused to comment' instead of just busting out laughing and mocking the idiots who made all this crap up, which bought them enough credibility to spread the meme.

kayoteq beat me to it.

This is so much like the dragon hoax it's not even funny. Dragon found while cleaning out garage: Alien found while cleaning out attic. Both suspended in liquid. Both with nearby papers "hinting" at historic dates and locales. Why does the paper even bother reporting this tripe?

Yes, it is and yes, they do.
Thankfully we, on the other hand, haven't lost a single one of our pickled human babies from our giant orbiting warehouses. They're very important to us. We do not wish to starve.

So is it just me, or is the article saying that the object is not an alien? Seems to me they are saying it is a model that is dated 1947 and their mystery pertains to the origin of said model.

quote from article:

The delicate 30cm (12 inch) figure of a baby alien is stored in a pungent liquid and has a US serial number painted on its four-toed foot. Possibly sculpted from a clay-like substance and painted grey, the model closely resembles the aliens depicted in a hoax film of an autopsy of the infamous "Roswell incident".

SERIAL NO: 4815162342

Wow. A sixty year old alien? Maybe it can do the halftime show at the next Superbowl.

I bet a US serial number is a social security number.. people in Britain may not have heard of a social security number?

I have seen actual pictures of it, verified real by eye witnesses! There is no question in my mind that Loch Ness exists.
