As a (socially) liberal person who is usually a Kennedy fan, I gotta say, submitter, that is a classic headline...

...classic as in: I've read it 5,000 times already.

2006-01-30 05:43:44 PM
Alito, who needs 51 votes to win confirmation, already has the support of 53 Republicans...which Republicans control by a 55-45 margin. Republicans accused Democrats of partisanship...

Yeah, because 53/55 Republicans doesn't make it a partisan vote.

Yeah, because 53/55 Republicans doesn't make it a partisan vote.

I know! Do the Republicans even have the ability to win gracefully?

Something smells like...burning?

Americans will need to calm down, it's not the end of the world. You'll still be able to get abortions in Mexico, Canada or your kitchen table.

2006-01-30 05:58:14 PM
HOORAY! Now Republicans can take off their masks and embrace activist judges!! Fetus Power!

2006-01-30 05:58:21 PM
Wait, what's going on? Who's Alito? What's a filibuster? Are the "Democrats" and "Republicans", like, different teams or something?

2006-01-30 05:58:23 PM
I for one hope the Kennedy jokes never stop. Shame on you Mass. people for relecting him over and over.

just wait till the 3rd Judge is nominated before Bush's term is up.

Exactly. With a 5-vote Opus Dei majority, freedom in America can finally be done away with.

Love the headline.

I wish Senator Kennedy would resign and let some young blood up there. His speech today was embarrassing. That Rep. Markey would be a nice replacement.

As for Senator Kerry. Why did I vote for him? He's useless. And probably hurt his chances for getting the nomination again.

As for Alito. I may not like him, but I respect the right of a President to have a qualified nominee voted upon. Now if only the Republicans will remember this when there is a Democratic President after the next election.

2006-01-30 05:59:52 PM
That's sad.

2006-01-30 05:59:53 PM
And thus we enter the years of the king.

Let's take a minute to remember George W. Bush was a crack user and alcoholic, convicted of drving while intoxicated.

Laura Bush ran a stop sign and killed an innocent driver.

Yay for cheap politics.

Beautiful headline, Submitter.

Well abortion had a good run. What was it like 30 years? Not bad for such a polarizing issue.

I wish he would just drown himself.

2006-01-30 06:00:50 PM
Hmm, I've seen that headline somewhere before...

Ah, yeah, I remember now. I saw it on Fark sometime last month. And the month before that... and before that...

The vote is still a solid 5-4 in favor of Roe v. Wade, even with Alito certain to go against it, along with Roberts (I regard Roberts as less a sure thing than Alito).

The real fireworks will come if/when Bush gets to make another nomination.

Did they think of beating the shoe on the podium? That worked the last time the Commies wanted to whine about something.

HAHAHAHa..ha...ha.

Republicans? Play fair? Hold themselves to the same standard as their colleagues? Stop rigging elections?

You, my friend, must be Amish.

Okay, well, that doesn't make this headline less funny, and if you work that into a headline in a relevant, timely, and witty manner, I will shower you with accolades, too.

The court can't outlaw abortion; the most it can do is turn the issue over to democracy.

I have a feeling that, if abortion is made illegal in the US, it would erode a lot of the binds that hold the GOP together. After all, you can't use abortion-loving liberals as a scapegoat when there's no more abortion!

The last real competition he had was in '94 when his competition was now-Governor Mitt Romney, who I wanted to see win at my pre-voting age. Judging from how both are currently doing, I'm glad Ted won re-election. Romney's a total GOP sellout who's just got his eye on the presidency and is more than willing to fark up the state to impress Iowa.

Ted's a good example of why we need term limits, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't the pro-choicers prevent the overturning of Roe by just never bringing a case before the SC? Or will the pro-kids-that-no-one-wants people force the issue by passing more and more restrictive laws designed to push a case up to the SC?

Does anyone else find it ironic that the anti-choice folks are soooo concerned about fetuses until the moment they are born? Then it's "those farkin' welfare-sucking, crime-doing scumballs".
