And hopefully comedy will ensue.

"The changes by Meehan's staff are not as "reprehensible" as inserting derogatory comments in someone else's entry, said Stephen Potts, former director of the federal Office of Government Ethics, which establishes conduct standards for the executive branch.

But the sheer breadth of changes emanating from the House reflects an abuse of public time and equipment, said Potter, now chairman of the Ethics Resource Center.

"That kind of usage, plus the fact that they're changing one person's material, is certainly wrong and ought to be at a minimum the focus of some disciplinary action," he said. "

Is this what people in Congress-critters' offices do all day? Googling themselves and making sure the Wikipedia portrays them in a good light? How do I sign up for one of these jobs?

/Looks like the Wiki article shows the term limits issue right now.

2006-01-27 01:44:34 PM
Why doesn't it surprise me that Congressional staff vandalize people's pages on Wikipedia?

2006-01-27 01:45:52 PM
The Meehan alterations on Wikipedia.com represent just two of more than 1,000 changes made by congressional staffers at the U.S. House of Representatives in the past six month.

Your tax dollars at work.

Of course, I must admit that some of these changes must have been legit. I imagine that if I were Congressman Loudmouth, and some one wiki'ed my entry to read "Congressman Loudmouth has been a registered sex offender since 1997" and I had only been registered since 2001, I feel it would be appropriate to correct the record.

Actually, Jabber, yes. But they usually give the job to an unpaid intern.

Still want the job? [Insert intern joke here.]

2006-01-27 02:26:26 PM
Damn corrupt, deceptive Repub-- oops.

Jabber: Is this what people in Congress-critters' offices do all day?

How does one get a job as one of these "Congress critters"? I think that'd be fun.

I will withhold judgement until I can determine which political party he belongs to, because that will determine whether or not I think he did something wrong.

/* would be funnier if fewer people thought this way */

Yes, but what are the chocolate rations now?

He's a Democrat

So he probably erased that part about his funding of Osama, also.

The US electorate is too stupid to remember what he pledged when he first ran. F**k 'em.

2006-01-27 03:30:24 PM
This is indeed a h00t!

I wonder what the comment count would be if this loser were a conservative Republican from a red state, as opposed to a stalwart Democrat from the state that brings us Senators Kennedy and Kerry!

2006-01-27 03:31:43 PM
LOL! Someone already changed it!

Well, I'm at least glad that the article took a pretty staunch non-partisan view point.

Wikipedia seems like a good idea, but like someone said it's easily corruptible. Some entries have solid evidence supporting them, while others are more subjective and open to interpretation.

2006-01-27 03:33:15 PM
QUICK@!

Everyone check to see which corrupt political party he belongs to so that we will all know who he's a perfect example of who is ruining our country!@

Damn, you know, you're right... I never realized that there are NO "conservatives" on this site, who side with republicans...

Judge away, it's in the article :p

"He is a poopie-pie."

To The Lowell Sun (lowellsun.com),

During a recent "browsing" session of the "internet", I ran across some non-factual items (typos, I'm sure!) regarding Congressman Marty Meehan that I would like to correct. Please replace your entire article titled, "Rewriting history under the dome", with the following:

"Marty Meehan is not, repeat NOT, a shiat-eating, dog-farking, typical political liar. Rather, he smells quite nice and enjoys a good game of squash now and then. Tally Ho!"

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
The Office of Rep. Marty Meehan

2006-01-27 03:42:02 PM
Excellent!

"Meehan was also elected supporting term limits, pledging to serve no more than four terms. He was re-elected for his seventh term by a large margin in 2004."

Along with Omarion, we need to check on their Wikiepdia sites daily to be sure the "truth" about these clown is known.

Paul Wellstone broke his term limit promise and it killed him. So beware Meehan your real term limit may be up real soon.

You know all those interesting "Facts About Chuck Norris"?
They came from Chuck realizing he could edit his own Wikipedia entry.

Let's play this fun game with possible self-edited Wikipedia entries!!
Delay, Tom: Delay is 1/8th Cherokee. This has nothing to do with ancestry, the man ate a farking Indian.

Abramoff, Jack: When Jack Abramoff sends in his taxes, he sends blank forms and includes only a picture of himself, crouched and ready to attack. Abramoff has not had to pay taxes, ever.

Rove, Karl: Rove's tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried. Ever.

KyngNothing

Damn, you know, you're right... I never realized that there are NO "conservatives" on this site, who side with republicans...
==========

That's not what I was trying to imply, though thank you for trying to read my mind asshat.

While we're on your train of thought, since you think the political 'right' has such huge representation here on Fark, what percentage of Fark posters do you think are Republicans, or are on the political 'right'?

My estimate? About 3 out of 10 people who post to Fark "political" threads are right-of-center, maybe less. I think that the moderators are considerably less representative...

Just my opinion...

"Meehan's staff members have been accused of editing out references to his campaign money and term-limit promises on Wikipedia. He is a poopie-pie." - Wikipedia, right now.

2006-01-27 03:44:47 PM
Wow, a whole lot of dissing partisanship, but no partisanship. Come on, let's get this party started!

Ahem:

/waits for the Neocon Repugnicans to show up and talk about how this proves all Democrats are crooked liars and should be banned from public service...

/waits for the libtard Dumocrats to show up and explain why he didn't really break a promise, because he explained why he needed to stay longer

2006-01-27 03:45:11 PM
Somebody go there and put all that stuff back in. His current entry reads like a press release from his office (which it is).

2006-01-27 03:45:27 PM
"Meehan's staff members have been accused of editing out references to his campaign money and term-limit promises on Wikipedia."

Wikipedia rocks.

2006-01-27 03:45:38 PM
The new entry reads in part: "...His fiscally responsible voting record since then has earned him praise from citizen watchdog groups."

Did those morans really think that would work on anyone? That sentence should have everyone's BS detector redlining.

/looks back at article about door-to-door tattoos
//*sigh* it would probably fool quite a few

2006-01-27 03:46:46 PM
Seriously. I've never posted or edited anything on Wiki - but is there any reason 500 farkers can't go there and demolish him? This is something where we can actually take action regarding some of the bullshiat we see politicians pull. FYI - I'm a demcrat too.

2006-01-27 03:46:53 PM
From the wikipedia:

Meehan was elected to Congress in 1992 on a plan to eliminate the budget deficit. His fiscally responsible voting record since then has earned him praise from citizen watchdog groups. http://www.lowellsun.com/ci_3444567 Meehan was also elected supporting term limits, pledging to serve no more than four terms. He was re-elected for his seventh term by a large margin in 2004.

Looks like it got fixed. Way to go mob!

2006-01-27 03:46:57 PM
Excellent, Bring it (ever edited the wikipedia article about yourself?) THEN SHUT UP

2006-01-27 03:48:00 PM

Meehan's staff members have been accused of editing out references to his campaign money and term-limit promises on Wikipedia. He is a poopie pie and his butt smells and he smells of smelly smelly smellies.

this is comic gold.
