That's unpossible...Jeebus says the earth is only 6000 years old!

Must be too late, I don't get the Jeff Goldblum reference. Ice, the fly? Independence day? Dinosaurs? I give up.

I'm a little fuzzy on the Jeff Goldblum reference too. Jurassic Park?

Japanese don't worship Jeebus. Way to go Budda!

/seriously, this sample could provide some additional data points on the study of meteorology.

Umezaki said the ice will be brought to Japan aboard the Shirase research vessel in April this year

Yes, the Shirase research vessel; which will no doubt be carrying an unlikely hero, his chubby sidekick, and a stowaway female news photographer. Later in the voyage, when the ice begins to melt...

Can someone smart explain the headline?

2006-01-24 06:38:15 AM
Will they make ice cubes out of it ? I remember that it was the Japanese who imported Alaskan Glacier ice to make cubes out of because it had no bubbles in it, it was clear as glass and almost looked blue.

ElegantGoose: Javacrucian - what is that picture from? It looks like Zack Galifinakis (hilarious guy from "The Comedians of Comedy" on Comedy Central)

It's from John Carpenter's excellent movie The Thing. It's a great movie that has that solitary 'small group of survivors' atmosphere that made Night of the Living Dead so popular. (Minus the zombies, add in an alien.) (And if you haven't seen NotLD, go download it for free at archive.org)

Though I should note that not only is Comedians of Comedy funny, Galifinakis is hilarious.

Silly you!
The million year old ice was put there to trick HEATHENS like you into thinking the world is old. The ice is the DEVIL'S WORK! That is why we must continue with America's DIVINE HOLY MISSION to melt the ice caps, RIDDING the world of the devil's handywork.
Praise Be!

I farking hated that episode, it was just evidence that the writers of that show are not even trying anymore.

It was brilliant in the beginning, but I guess too much success equals too many other distractions. I wouldn't know.

killing christians turned out to be a good move for japan. if china had the balls to tell the united states of jesusland (and all those other nations which insist on the right to delusion, to be fair) to fark off, it might look back on the decision, in several hundred years, as one of its best.

Ah, The Thing. Nothing quite so fun as popping a bunch of unsuspecting friends and their wives down on the sofa with a barrel of KFC and a tub of mac and cheese and popping that gem of a movie into the DVD player. Hilarity invariably will ensue.

2006-01-24 08:43:26 AM
haveagun: there are no japanese christians?

From what I've read here and there about 1% or so of the country is Christian.

And on a geeky side note brought on by the Godzilla pic above, Eiji Tsuburaya who helped create the franchise (and found Ultraman) was Catholic.

/and now you know

2006-01-24 08:44:20 AM
A Deception Point reference would have been much more accurate than a Jurassic Park reference, but then again, it hasn't been made into a movie yet, and this is Fark.com.

Japanese scientists recover million-year-old ice from Antarctica. Dan Brown sues for copyright infringement would have been a start in the right direction...

I was never a fan of the show, but that was the episode that got me watching. I was channel surfing and bam, giant worm comin outta some dude. THATS good TV.
