It alleges the band suffered financial damages because of Zivojinovich's injuries, arrest and criminal case.

My ass they suffered. Like the fans all of a sudden stopped buying concert tickets because of the arrest.

I thought it happened in Sarasota.

Greenlit? I love Rush, but this surprises me.

Deacon Blues: My ass they suffered.

Did they miss any showdates because of it?

They should just tie the deputies down and let Neil Peart drum on their faces with nightsticks.

2006-01-23 12:35:34 PM
They should spend less time suing and more time trying to write music that doesn't suck.

I'll just get this out of the way right now...Rush sucks. Feel free to disagree, but really, they are horrible.

See, the men who have broken faces must be the ones who start. To mold a new nasal cavity. Bill it to Neil Peart.

(I am so, so sorry.)

What's the story behind that? I saw the video with him and one of the Barenaked Ladies guys on the R30 DVD, but no explanation there.

There are two types of people. There are the Rush fans, and those who lack the intelligence to understand the music of Rush.

/that should kick things up a notch in here

There's a hilarious episode of Trailer Park Boys where Ricky captures Alex Lifeson and Bubbles gets to be Rush's guitar tech for a real concert. Alex comes back to the Trailer park afterward and he and Bubbles jam and play "Closer to the heart" -- the name of the Episode. Absolutely gut-busting funny!

Ah, I've never seen Trailer Park Boys, so that would explain my ignorance.

Thanks.

It's possible, I haven't heard anything to that extent. The entire lawsuit is ridiculous. Back in tha' day, I used to get into bar fights beside the old man, get a little bloodied, get some sympathy sex and that was that. No need for lawyers.

I really can't blame anyone for breaking the nose of anyone in that pretentious, self important band. I realize that they're good musicians but they are insufferable pricks.

2006-01-23 02:34:03 PM
while rush is inarguably an amazingly talented technical band, they have lacked coolness almost from the beginning. and i used to get a hard-on hearing 2112 or Natural Science (still might), but i can totally do with out all the wizards and D&D lameness.

/i think i am psychic because i thought about rush earlier today when i saw the ...to not decide you still have made a choice... headline.

What have you heard that makes them "insufferable pricks"? I've met 2/3 of the band on several occasions (never met Neil) and they were really cool. Funny as hell. Didn't act all "rock star" around the fans.

I believe this. Their music may seem pretentious, but I don't think they take themselves that seriously. My interest in them probably peaked about Permanent Waves/Moving Pictures, but I cannot listen to "Time Stand Still" to this day without getting shivers down my spine.

I think Power Windows was their last great album. I've loved their music for years, but I didn't buy their latest album. Getting way too harsh.

I love Rush. However I will admit their last few albums seem to really lack the same polish in their songwriting styles as the other 16 or so albums. Rush had a knack for redifining themselves while at the same time being true to their craft and style. Everything after Counterparts doesn't make the grade to me. I just don't feel the love anymore.

As for attitudes I have heard now and then that Neil Peart can be a little snooty, but Geddy and Alex always get along with the public. Keep in mind that's secondhand info since I never met them personally. Rumors are rumors and all that.

/Rush needs to branch out their market.

I realize that they're good musicians but they are insufferable pricks.

Why would you say that? From what I can tell, they appear to be remarkably down to earth, given their popularity.

Did you have a particular incident you'd like to share with the class?

I choose not to decide how I feel about Rush.

Their recent covers of "heart full of soul" and "the seeker" and "Summertime blues" were the first rush releases I cared about since giving up on them around "Hold your Fire" or whatever that cheesy album was called.

I have a multitude of Rush songs on my mp3-player, but they are very early-rush vintage. (Working man, etc)

Moving Pictures was pretty decent though.

For some reason, someone always seems to have a spurious "Bytor and the snow dog" sign at San Jose Sharks games. No idea why.

The last rush concert I went to was in 1984 I think. Grace under pressure. Ugh. Cool lasers though.

The only debate on Rush is when, exactly, they reached the designated suck-point.

My vote is after Signals.

No greater fan of Hemispheres and 2112 than yours truly, but they jumped the shark 20+ years ago and I wish they would retire and enjoy their royalty checks.
