Sounds like a very smart woman. Shame she got caught.

doesn't sound like she got caught. sounds like she is in control.

It's her money, her business. Sounds like she knows how to deal with it.

Rillion: It's her money, her business. Sounds like she knows how to deal with it.

It's marital property, but I agree she's handling it correctly.

2006-01-21 10:02:30 AM
She's protecting him from his demons. At least the way she says it, he would blow the money. Hopefully she has it set up so that if anything happens to her, he gets part of the money and the rest is to be used for the kids.

2006-01-21 10:06:18 AM
I wonder how the lotto is set up that she can claim and hold the winnings anonymously.

2006-01-21 10:09:39 AM
If the lotto is set up like it is here, they can publish her name and picture for advertising purposes, but apart from that she can deposit it any acct she wants. Just report the interest come tax time.

I don't disagree with how it's being handled, but I don't think she should have lied to him about it.

It's marital property

Really? Yikes. Guess if I ever get married, there's going to be a pre-nup to get rid of that whole idea.

2006-01-21 10:32:10 AM
I dunno. I think she has some trust issues if she can't tell her husband that she came into some money (not necessarily her own issues, more that she married someone that she cannot trust, which is rarely a good foundation for a relationship), but I can understand what she is saying, and I don't think it's really wrong, per se.

Rillion: Guess if I ever get married, there's going to be a pre-nup to get rid of that whole idea.

Most pre-nups only cover pre-marital property... Most.

2006-01-21 10:41:45 AM
Well, at least she didn't take off with the money after she won. She's using it in the marriage. If the story about why she didn't tell her husband is true, then I think she's doing the right thing.

ManAtWork: Most pre-nups only cover pre-marital property... Most.

PMAs are contracts and as such are adaptable to the parties' particular wishes and circumstances. As such, they can define what constitutes "marital property."

"...in fear that he would go back to his former drug problem."

Temptation would definitely be a biatch. She's got a good reason to stay in control of the money.

2006-01-21 12:13:23 PM
Stupid stupid stupid.

She should give him a sizeable chunk of the money, let him OD, then get a new trophy husband.

2006-01-21 12:35:23 PM
That's just not right!

2006-01-21 12:36:33 PM
I will just say that this woman is incredible. I can't keep a secret for longer than an hour. I just can't.

2006-01-21 12:37:13 PM
I don't believe her.

If you hide something like that from your immediate family for years, would you risk being caught by calling a radio show? Why, oh, why? It makes no sense.

She probably wishes she had won the lottery, but she is just very imaginative (borderline crazy).

2006-01-21 12:37:43 PM
So let me get this straight - she's hiding it from her husband for months, but proceeds to tell the whole world about it on a call-in show?

Smells fishy to me.

2006-01-21 12:39:02 PM
Really? Yikes. Guess if I ever get married, there's going to be a pre-nup to get rid of that whole idea.

Then don't get married.

/Don't have a pre-nup.
//Not going to plan for my marriage to end.

If I won 1.5M in a lottery, I'd spend 1.4M of it on beer and p*ssy, and the rest I'd just waste on something frivolous...

labman: let him OD, then get a new trophy husband.

That much money is'nt enough to keep a trophy spouce...it's enough to Educate your kids and pay your bills for life if used properly.

this woman obviously loves her husband to death. She didnt do it for selfish greedy reasons. If i was in the same position i would hope that i could be as stong willed as her

2006-01-21 12:55:24 PM
What a lying whore. If I was going to work every day and worrying about bills and this biatch had hidden 1.5 million dollars from me, because she felt she had right to decide what our family unit should be like, my response would be to stick a tire iron up her ass and stir it around like I was making some tuna salad in there. Seriously, she deserves a donkey punch at the very least.

pre nups are a touchy subject, but i don't think PNA are a bad idea and they don't have you "planning on your marriage to end". shiat happens (spouse leaves for another, plain old divorce etc) and IF it goes down you should make sure that you're not going to be dicked around in the courts. life's unpredictable like that.

/not a fan of the idea of marriage in the first place.
//it's just a piece of a paper and a party
/// third slash's the charm

So she hid the money so her husband wouldnt go buy marijuana? Just buy him a grow light or 2 and some seed and turn an even bigger profit!

/call it an addiction, I just see a money making opportunity!

waste301: Did you RTFA? Her husband is a recovering drug addict. She doesn't want him to know about the money because she's afraid he'll be tempted to relapse. I don't condone lying to one's spouse, but I do understand where she's coming from in this case.

They can't publish her details if she asks them not to. You can choose to be totally anonymous to everyone but the people who sign the cheque if you want. Or you can have your 15 minutes and have all those people who used to hate you calling up and saying how they really miss you and want to meet and by the way, they've been having some serious money troubles lately....

2006-01-21 01:27:00 PM
If I ever won the lottery, the people I would want to hide it from are my relitives. I'm not married though.

this lady is smart

You can't trust anyone absolutely, but you can ALWAYS trust them to be themselves. If she knows him that well, perhaps she is right...

Most women wouldn't be having the serious drug issues that she claims her husband to have.

Now, if this were simply an overworked spouse with too many kids to take care of and the money was hidden from THEM, then yes, this would be a terrible breech of trust and a slight cruel streak (due to not just hiring a maid/nanny to help out) and all that....

... but all marriages are highly suspect to circumstance. If you know your spouse has money issues of any type, then simply keeping the money hidden and leeching it out at various intervals is a little safer in the long run than telling them you have a big wad and either:
a) don't trust them to handle it, which is good for the cash but bad for the marriage (and may result in some criminal action in order to GET control), or
b) let them have some say and risk having the money go up faster than the christmas tree in Rockefeller Plaza.

This goes double if the spouse has a history of making your life hell when he wants to (beatings/affairs/etc.), as money either amplifies his ability to do so or else his desire to do so. It may not be a sign of a good marriage but at least it's a sign of a good head.

You're only saying that because you're a girl. If he's going to be part of the family he gets to know about important events. As a former junkie who got his shiat together, I can state FOR CERTAIN that money or the lack there of is not the problem the guy has. Trust him or leave him. If she isn't confident in their relationship then that is what she should be working on - not deception and lies. She doesn't have to give him the money - its hers, but to conceal it from him to make denying him access is easier is WRONG.

Wifey opened up an account in her name only and squirrelled away nearly $5K. She had the bank hold all correspondence pertaining to that account (I didn't even know you could do that). Statements on our other two accounts with the same bank were still mailed to the house.

She would cash a check from out joint account and deposit the cash into her hidden account so there was no direct link between the two accounts.

When caught, she claimed that she was just saving the money for a surprise vacation for us.

What a lucky guy I am that I married such a thrifty little woman!

I hope you are gay because your hatred of women is rooted in some deep psycological issues. I'm not talking about what you are saying, it isn't right to lie to someone you have decided to spend your life with, but how you are saying it... well you said just like my girlfriends dad.

A chip-on-the-shoulder son of a biatch with a steady (read: alcoholic) drinking habbit and an impulsive need to assert his authority (read:beat his wife/daughter/anyone else really).

If any of that sounds like you either get some help or go try to buy a gun with a knife...

Reminds me of the old joke"

A man rushes into his house and tells his wife. "Pack up our bags honey, I just won a hundred million dollars in the lottery.

The wife exclaims "Where are we going?"

The husband replies "I'm moving into a mansion, I don't care where your going."

Some friends of my parents relationship works just like this though. The wife is extremely ditzy but the husband has made millions in buisness. I know most recently he sold his share of a buisness for 5 million and still collects rent on the building from the company he sold to.

The wife has no clue how rich they are. They live in a house that a decent mechanic could afford (albeit he'd probably have a mortgage whereas theirs had been paid off for decades) drive plain older cars and don't dress fancy at all. He knows she would blow money left and right if she had access to it.

Lottery operator Camelot are yet to confirm the woman's story.

The media jackals are so assininely self assured that they are going to blow the poor woman's cover. In an expose thinly veiled as fact verification this woman's name will be published in three...two...one

A story involving a divorce:

Judge awards jilted husband his ex-wife's secret jackpot
By Ann W. O'Neill, Los Angeles Times, 11/17/99

LOS ANGELES - During his 25 years of marriage, Thomas Rossi says, he never saw a marriage counselor, never strayed, and never doubted a relationship so close that he shared an electric toothbrush with his wife.

Then Denise Rossi shocked him by suddenly demanding a divorce. And she wanted it in a hurry.

Now he knows why: On Dec. 28, 1996 - 11 days before she filed for divorce - Denise won $1.3 million in the California lottery.

She never told anyone, and on Monday her secret caught up with her. A Los Angeles family court judge, ruling she had violated state asset disclosure laws, awarded her winnings to her ex-husband. Every penny....

If you can trust the wife, you let her claim the money, so your pic and name is not spread to every scammer in the area...then have fun with them when they call,,,like you are a butler or hired body gguard who is going to kick anyones butt that gets near her...
