wow... this is the best news in weeks!

...even though I have already seen Season 1...

maybe people won't look at me crosseyed when I talk about Dr. Who, now...

Actually, this kind of sucks.

They're going to play the first season, which anyone who really cares has already downloaded and watched (in HDTV, natch).

This means we'll be forced to do the same for the second seasion (since it's on while SciFi is playing the first). If SciFi playes the second season immediately, maybe they can get in sync for when (if?!?!) the third season airs.

I like the high-def video better, anyway.

Fnord: They're going to play the first season, which anyone who really cares has already downloaded and watched (in HDTV, natch).

So it's like Stargate SG-1. We've been dealing with that shiat for years.

For once I can say 'ha ha, seen it !' Love you BBC

Well, geez, Johnny-come-latelys, most of us who care understand BitTorrent.

When does Season 2 start? I got a real good vibe from David Tennant from the Christmas special. He's so much hotter than Eccleston.

Tennant sucks, and PIPER BLOWS. That is all.

That didn't seem to hurt Battlestar Galactica.

'bout bloody well time. Season 27 was brilliant. Yes, boys and girls. Season 27. Not season 1. The doctor has been around longer than most of us, with the first episode airing in 1963.

And Tennant doesn't seem so bad. Eccleston set a high bar, but if the Christmas special was anything to go by, Tennant will do just fine.

I'm also looking forward to torchwood. Cuz captain Jack, he's a hottie.

About farking time.

I've got 700 channels on the cable box -- one of which even purports to be the BBC, but no Doctor Who.

My PBS station doesn't show it anymore; their schedule is too jam-packed with geriatric reunion concerts I guess.

I don't know why the BBC doesn't try to more aggressively shop around their shows. They're sitting on a gold mine.

2006-01-20 11:52:19 PM
Does this version promise to be far less of a pile of crap than the original?

/Must have been nice doing early sci-fi. You had no standards to meet at all.

2006-01-20 11:53:30 PM
I would like to point out the Doctor Who made it to America back when I only had four channels, and thank you very much, PBS, for him and Monty Python.

Oh, and that Horkenhiemer guy with the Members Only jacket who implored I always keep looking up.

Some quotations wouldn't hurt. I read that as "a doctor who made it into the USA" I was thinking big whoop.

wtf is docwho?

Just Ignorant: I would like to point out the Doctor Who made it to America back when I only had four channels, and thank you very much, PBS, for him and Monty Python.

Indeed, it was the foundation of many fond memories of my youth. I really wish PBS would bring back the old episodes.

When I was a kid I would confuse Tom Baker with Bob Dylan and would ask my older sister why Dylan flew around in a phone booth.

I agree that Tennant was very good (as was the Christmas Episode in general). Bring on the Cybermen [sofa], Sarah Jane Smith [yummy] and even K9 [wank].

Being the fan that you are, you must realise that "Doctor Who" is an anagram of "Torchwood", no?

/Also "Doctor Who" is an anagram of "Crowd Hoot", "Cohort Dow" and "Cow Hotrod", but that's less cool.

2006-01-21 12:01:50 AM
The new guy kinda sucks. Eccleston made the new show, and he bolted.

I'm still waiting for his brother, Doctor Whom. Less subjective, more objective.

We always called him the gay astronomer (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Wow, this is cool, though. I've seen a couple of the new ones and liked the new doctor. Not as good as Tom Baker, but better then Colin Baker by a long shot.

/yes, I'm a geek

2006-01-21 12:03:51 AM
Yeah, I'm none too pleased with the new Doctor either, based upon the Christmas episode. He's just too much of a bloody goofball.

The Doctor's supposed to be eccentric, not "special".

2006-01-21 12:03:58 AM
Oh and by "K9 [wank]" I mean that K9 was a load of wank, not...

/Oh never mind.

Here's how they're getting it to America:

members.aol.com

/already watched it all within hours of original broadcast thanks to usenet binaries
//doesn't get cable anyhow
///and it's season 1 of series 2
////don't you think she looks tired?

Actually, they were planning on calling the new show "Cow Hotrod", but it turned out that the Discovery channel was already producing a show by that name. Apparently it's going to be something like "American Chopper", only for the agricultural crowd. Little known fact: That show was originally going to be called "pimp my cow", but the execs were afraid people would take that too literally.

I totally agree with the both of you. One of my first memories of television is the weird, trippy beginning of Doctor Who.

And the other one is watching Monty Python (the episode where one of them has his fingers chopped off by the falling piano lid. Hey, i was 3, I don't remember the names!) and having my mother run into the room and say "you are too young to watch this".

I was laughing my little three year old bum off. Didn't get to watch it again until I was a teenager.

Ahh, I miss the old PBS. Nova. 3-2-1 Contact. The Electric Company. Actual science shows. Scientific American Frontiers.

Now it's all Suze Ormand and Bee Gees reunions. Ugh.

Give him a break. He just regenerated. The Doctor is normally a total looney for an episode or two after regeneration. And since second series episodes are twice as long, that means he should be back to "normal" when the second season starts.

First off, WTF?? this wasn't shown in the US? WOW

In canada you could see it 1 week after the UK air date.

Second, WTF??? The article says this is the first season? who the fark did the research for that? Dr. Who is one of the longest running (by years) sci-fi series ever.

bleh.. whatever.. seen it already and it was pretty good.

I hope you're right, 'cause I could really see him getting on my nerves.

I guess we'll find out in, when is it? March? May?

Agreed. If I wasn't watching animals/mammals tearing each other up on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom or Jacques Cousteau, the TV was normally tuned to PBS for Python, Benny Hill, Hitchhiker's or Dr. Who.

I disagree. PBS still airs really good docus. Nova really doesn't suck, and there's this new show called "Japanland" that's a fairly fascinating insight into daily life in. . .well. . .Japan. I also think that Newshour is probably the last American news program that hasn't become so infused with commercial interests that it's unwatchabale. All of the others will basically show whatever they think will make you, the viewer, not change channels before the next commercial break. And don't even get me started on Mystery. Some of the newer stuff is a bit iffy, but if you're ever in the mood for a thoughtful murder mystery, PBS is the only place to go.
