I think my parents had a Fairlane in the 60s. Sure didn't look like that.

2006-01-20 07:27:27 AM
This is why you don't leave a Mini-Cooper and a Scion alone in the garage together.

2006-01-20 07:28:44 AM
What's with making American cars as big and macho as possible? That thing looks like a brick with wheels.

Mmmm....wheeled brick.

2006-01-20 07:29:54 AM
That looks suspiciously like an SUV to me...

It's the Ford Honda Element Scion!

People study auto design for years and then Ford goes and proves all you need do is drive by Japanese car dealerships.

2006-01-20 08:35:35 AM
Damn, my Scion xB looks better than that -- and the xB made a list of the ten ugliest cars ever.

I found this post amusing. *golf clap*

I saw the episode of Rides where Ford was designing this. For an entire hour, I kept expecting someone to say "April Fools!" because there is no way but NO WAY this ugly piece of shiat can be for real.

2006-01-20 08:44:42 AM
For some reason, it looks like a coffin to me.

2006-01-20 08:45:52 AM
Oh, wait, that's not a Syn. The Syn looks just like that, except smaller.

It still makes me sad.

Good ol' Ford... About time they started to go after the lucrative demographic market of "people with absolutely no taste/ blind drivers."

KyngNothing: That looks suspiciously like an SUV to me...

Exactly. How is that not an SUV?

Ford is likely to move away from the traditional minivan look epitomized by its slow-selling Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans, according to company and industry experts familiar with the plan.

Well, if they just designed the Freestar better, it wouldn't be so slow-selling.

I have a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 150,000 miles on it. About two years ago, after someone rear-ended me, I need a loaner minivan. I got a brand new (2003 at the time) Windstar.

I was amazed that my ~8 year old Plymouth still handled much better than the brand new Ford. The Ford was way too truck-like. No wonder they never sold many of them.

I'm soon to be in the market for my next van. Probably be the Honda, tho.

/well, enough about me.

2006-01-20 11:33:45 AM
They seriously named it the Ford Fairlane?
Wow.

2006-01-20 11:33:50 AM
what does it matter what it looks like? Ford makes crap products.

it's only a matter of time before we are all driving Chinese cars. Get used to to it.

2006-01-20 11:35:05 AM
Wait, let me guess.

Some people will bash Ford in this thread.

2006-01-20 11:35:33 AM
I wonder how long it will be before they rebate and price-cut the profitability right out of it ...

2006-01-20 11:36:00 AM
My 05 Ford F-150 super cab is one of the most beautiful vehicles on the road!

mmmmmmm 17 mpg.

Ford Exec: "Hey, we haven't farked up the Fairlane name yet, let's hit that one in '06!"

Another glorious classic to be killing be reinvention.

at least it isn't one of these:

/obscure?

....just kidding about the obscure thing. I'm just making fun of people.

It looks like a powder blue ugly ass Honda Element. A shoebox with wheels.

CommTHOR: Good ol' Ford... About time they started to go after the lucrative demographic market of "people with absolutely no taste/ blind drivers."

I think the "people with absolutely no taste" demographic is huge. It easily encompasses every person who watched Friends or CSI: Miami. Every person who likes eating at McDonalds is a viable potential customer.

They named it after a shopping mall in Dearborn?

/Lives in a town named after a shopping mall.

Lemmy

The Ford name isn't winning any taste awards I admit. However the Chinese auto companies have a LONG way to go before they're up to par to produce vehicles on even Ford's tight standards - which unbeliveably - are among the tightest and strictest in the industry.

/Tier One supplier
//I'd like to keep my job, thanks

The Way Forward plan? Did they actually plagiarize that from Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency?

2006-01-20 11:39:42 AM
I have a 2003 Taurus, my wife has a Kia (who cares which one? they all suck). I'm moving to a better job soon, and as soon as I do I'm trading my Taurus and Kia. For a Freestyle and a Fusion. I'm excited about the Fusion (the trim that has the same Duratec motor that my Taurus does), especially b/c my biggest beef with my Taurus is the shiatty 4-speed auto and the handling due to size. The 6-speed auto in the Fusion and the improved handling are a big draw for me. Plus I like the way both the Freestyle and the Fusion look.

I happen to like it. You all have bad taste.

Well, there goes my dad's pension. Actually, my dad is probably thankful he doesn't work there anymore trying to figure out a marketing plan to sell that thing.

/drives a '06 Ford Escape and loves it

If buick can sell the rendezvous (or pontiac the aztek) then ford can crap on a plate and people will drive it.

2006-01-20 11:43:42 AM
I'll buy it because I buy AMERICAN!

2006-01-20 11:43:49 AM
That's the ugliest piece of shiat I've ever seen. I'm ashamed to bear the same name as that company.

2006-01-20 11:44:40 AM
My 05 Ford F-150 super cab is one of the most beautiful vehicles on the road!

In fact, that is not true.

Someone on the design team has been taking the blue oval pills.

2006-01-20 11:45:43 AM
Wow. Looks like a Scion with bigger tires. Butt-fraking-ugly. I'd rather walk the 50 miles to the office.

2006-01-20 11:45:50 AM
no word on mileage?

2006-01-20 11:46:21 AM
Based on that sole picture, I kind of like it. I'm hoping they bring it to the NA International Auto Show here in Grand Rapids in Feb. so I can actually see it up close and form an opinion.

/Nope, don't work for Ford, or own one for that matter.

2006-01-20 11:47:12 AM
I believe the actual name is the "Ford Mini Scion Element Cooper Edition"

2006-01-20 11:47:39 AM
This is just begging to be pimped out, yo.

give it another 5 years.

I for one, will never buy an american made car.

2006-01-20 11:48:24 AM
I had an MPV. It was nice.

2006-01-20 11:48:31 AM
We had a Ford Windstar. It was the biggest piece of trash I've ever owned. Fuel pump, shocks, alternator, power windows just to name a few all started failing before 7000 miles.

I would NEVER own another Ford.

Ford's been producing the Fairlane in Australia for years as a luxury version of the Falcon. This is the latest model:

www.ford.com.au

And the Falcon, just for good measure:

This new Ford looks like a Scion to me. Both are boxy, but not good.
