So how flaming is is? Does it buck with wild abandon when it gets thrust into a fresh log?

2006-01-18 05:21:25 PM
Only if it hits corn

Stihl makes great chainsaws and weed eaters, though. Pricey, but the best damn equipment to buy if you have lots to cut.

Too bad. :( Flames make everything better!

I recall the mighty flaming Stihl as a good friend and a force with the ladies, but Stihl fought the log and the log won.

That would be the greatest invention of all time. Can't cut down that tree? Burn it down instead! You think that neighbor will complain that I'm cutting down the tree at 8am? How do you feel about fire, huh buddy?

Yeah, I've got some issues to work out.

I think that Flaming gives it +3 against leather armor or something

Ed Gein says it cooks while it cuts. Brilliant.

if you want your chainsaw to cut faster with bigger chunks of wood chips coming out. you file down all the rakers about 1/8" shorter than the teeth.

still sounds safer then the beast of a chainsaw thats in my garage. things got about a 6 foot blade on it, requires two people to hold it (you couldnt pay me enough money in the world to hold onto the oposite end when its running) and has a 15hp motor if memory serves me.

yes, a 15hp chainsaw.

ya ya, i know about the V-8 chainsaw.... thats just overkill

I have a Husqvarna 55 Rancher. It developed a fuel tank last year when the casting around the filler neck warped after a long session of sawing and the cap didn't seal. It leaked a whole tank of gasoline (about a pint) all over my garage floor. Fortunately it didn't catch on fire and the dealer fixed it under warranty. It's a great saw, I use it with a bar guide to cut hardwood slabs for furniture and to take out the occasional rogue tree.

2006-01-18 11:18:36 PM
I also have a ripping chain that I made by taking out every 2nd tooth each way and filing down the rakers so it doesn't clog up when ripping.

I'm with Mr.Rusty, Stihl sucks ass, go with a Husky. Buy a sthil if you got some hedges to prune.(Talking from 80 cords of experiance this winter)

Dad's got a 30" Stihl he's had more than 20 years now. The thing is ugly, but it runs great and scares the hell out of everyone but him.

/He bought Mom a Husky for Mother's day last year.
//I've always liked the Stihls, never had a problem.

Whatever happened to the chainsaw juggler?
He was a good friend of mine
I heard that he died but nobody cried
Instead they just chopped off their arms

The reality of the problem is the new style of caps used for fuel and oil on these saws. If debris is not wiped away completely then the cap won't seat properly. I've seen this when I've opened the case and found all the oil had leaked out. Stihl in their engineering mastery has put a boss right next to the oil filler cap to make it nearly impossible to wipe off. Now that the newness has worn off, I've carved this off until it is flush and now I can easily wipe the area clean. I suppose the gas cap problem is from a similar problem with debris. What was wrong with the old fashioned threaded caps anyway? I actually prefer to use my 20 and 15 year old Stihls to the 4 year old one. They run on crappy gas and you can turn the carbuerator screws to suit. The new ones demand perfectly mixed gas and are unadjustable. Thanks EPA.

I like both. The older units have more low end torque. With the new units, its all about the high RPM's. They're different but still the best chainsaw for the money.
I've owned plenty of other saws but will now never own anything but a Stihl.

This GREATLY increases the risk of kick back injuries. ie. Unexpected chainsaw cut to the neck (common cause of chainsaw related deaths).

Beware of the UCCTTN !
