For a while, our local El Pollo Loco didn't have any Smoky Black Beans, blaming the shortage on the hurricane.

No shortage of tomatoes in the salsa, however...

/doesn't eat pollo, but loves the smoky black beans and salsa of el pollo loco

Yeah! This just saves me the trouble of having to throw it out, and lose half the mayo! Now if they'd just ditch the lettuce too.

I asked for a cheeseburger, that's cheese, and a burger, like the name says. Not a lettuce and tomato cheese burger.

And since I'm biatching about irrelevant things, what asshat decided that lettuce could replace the bun for carb conscious people and still call it a burger? It's not. It's a patty between two slices of lettuce. Call it what it is. And don't even get me started on veggie "burgers". If I shape something round and eat it, can I call it a burger? Donuts = burgers?

Man, I need a nap.

Growing up in Columbus, Wendy's was by far the best fast food joint in the city (it's hedquartered there). However, since I moved away 7+ years ago I have noticed that no matter where I go, Wendy's sucks everywhere else. Not only that, when I was back in C-Bus about a year ago, the Wendy's there had gone to shiat as well.

I attribute this to the fact that when I lived in Columbus I would occasionally see Dave Thomas himself eating in various Wendy's around Ohio's capital city (mostly the one at 161 and 33/Riverside Dr.), I think this kept local employees on their toes and forced them to make the best food possible. Since he passed away, the local stores have gone the way of all the other stores around the country.

Be that as it may, bead Wendy's is still better than McDonalds and Burger King, but nowhere near In N' Out and Backyard Burgers.

/Loved living in Columbus
//Would like to move back someday
///Hates the fact that the trash surrounding Cincinnati makes the state deserving of it's own tag
////Kentucky should just annex Cincy and everything else within 50 miles that isn't already part of kentucky or Indiana. They'd be doing the rest of Ohio a favor

For you grammar nazi's out there, I did not mean to use the word bead, I meant to use bad. Are you happy now.

the wendy's I was eating at for all of last week plus a few days (give me a break, it was the closest food to where I was working, and driving was out of the question) had the sign up the whole time, only skimped on the tomato once.

Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald's Corp., the No. 1 chain, said Thursday it is not facing a similar shortage.

"We do not have any tomato shortages and we do not anticipate any because of our good planning," spokeswoman Lisa Howard said. "We have contingency plans if there are any issues, but we haven't had any."

Good planning = making the food so bad no one will eat it.

So hard to get ahold of a tomato that chews like a tomato and tastes like a tomato. Mmm.. ugly tomatoes. [tasty]

I was just telling the guy at the fruit stand that yesterday. Fugly fruit tasets much better. My
Grandfather used to grow the ugliest oranges, but were much better than the crap in the stores. He fertilized them with elephant & goat shiat. (lived near Circus winter HQ)
Not this fugly, though

um by not serving tomato and keeping the price the same, they are effectivly raising the price.

um they are available upon request, therefore, customer determines whether price is increased or not.
Tomatos should be by request anyway.......too many thrown out.

by the way.........
TOMATO HATERS

And how do they explain the MUSTARD they keep leaving off, huh? You ask for no mayonnaise and those bastards leave off every condiment starting with the letter "M."

2006-01-13 09:55:12 AM
good
tomatoes make me farrrt

2006-01-13 10:03:03 AM
Oh noes, I might have to miss out on those nasty, straw-colored, taste-free discs they call tomatoes?

Now if only a hurricane would just take out those fields of lettuce with the thick, nasty, stringy, bitter core right in the center of the leaf that they always put on the fraudulently named spicy chicken sandwich.

2006-01-13 10:44:18 AM
McDonalds doesn't have a tomato shortage because there are only 4 types of products they actually OFFER tomatos on.

2006-01-13 10:49:51 AM
God I wish there was a Mayo shortage. half the time I order a burger anywhere, and even when I specify "NO MAYO", the farkers insist on slapping some on there.

Creamy whites freak me out.

2006-01-13 10:51:30 AM
Wendy's are making a fuss over the tomatoes to hide the fact that the patties in the 'value' menu range have shrunk to roughly half the size of the bun. Bought a couple for me and the wife last weekend and half our bites were just mayo and bun.

2006-01-13 11:52:25 AM
the best time of my restaurant-going life was when weather forced everyone around here to put up signs saying "you have to ask for tomatoes if you want them due to shortages".

because i don't like tomatoes that haven't been pureed, and so the rest of you should suffer to accomodate me.

Sounds like Mason Williams' "The Tomato Vendetta". OK, how many of you remember this song? If so, you're showing your age, or you've got cool parents..

Hurricane Katrina is the new Bush.

No tomato? That's fine with me. I'll just make up for it by getting extra fingers in my chili.

Xandar:

For you grammar nazi's out there, I did not mean to use the word bead, I meant to use bad.

The grammar nazis wish to inform you that the plural of nazi does not contain an apostrophe.

With warm regards,

Interesting. I was wondering about an incident that happened yesterday and this explains it. I went through the sandwich line at our cafeteria and asked for a tomato on my sandwich. They said they didn't have any! "Weird", I thought for such a standard ingredient. Now I know.

Xandar Be that as it may, bead Wendy's is still better than McDonalds and Burger King, but nowhere near In N' Out and Backyard Burgers.

OK Xandar where do you live that you can get Backyard Burger and In N Out? I want to move there. Throw in a Duchess (Fairfield County, CT) and I am in heaven.
