All right, finally some good is coming out of the hurricanes.

/doesn't like tomato

2006-01-12 11:14:31 PM
I saw that 2 weeks ago. I think the print on the (You need to order it by name) Will get smaller as the $.99 menu gets more expensive to make.

Soon there will be a sign that says you need to say that you want beef on your hamburger.

Good, those farking tomatos are ice cold, the burger goes luke warm and the grease solidifies within minutes.

this is actually old news, wendys has done this a few times, namely this year AND last year, but this is the first time it's ever come to the media. It happens, just be happy they (we) haven't raised the prices for sammiches

at my university we have a hoagie bar which i frequent because hoagies are the shiat. for the past few months theyve been sans-tomato, with a sign explaining that this is, in fact, due to the recent hurricanes.

Boooo! Spicy Chicken Sandwich needs the tomato!

Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald's Corp., the No. 1 chain, said Thursday it is not facing a similar shortage.

"We do not have any tomato shortages and we do not anticipate any because of our good planning," spokeswoman Lisa Howard said. "We have contingency plans if there are any issues, but we haven't had any."

McDonald's puts tomatos on thier burgers? Since when?

This isn't the first time Wendy's has done this, I've seen the signs before saying tomatos are by request only.

Tomatoes suck anyway.

2006-01-12 11:33:45 PM
seen it, don't like tomatos anyway so I don't care

2006-01-12 11:34:03 PM
So what, I chuck that flavorless piece of corrugated cardboard anyway-- along with that bit of latex they call lettuce.

On the Big Xtra (Big N' Tasty in the US) they do.

That's BS.

If they are cutting out tomato's because of the shortage, then a small percentage of sales that would have been used... becomes profit.

IMHO that should go to the Hurricane Katrina fund.

IMHO that's rather lousy ethics to cut a product down, not reduce the price, and blame it on an act of God.

The burgers never look like they do in the ads anyways. I seriously want to go into BurgerKing, Wendys, McDs... any of the chains and challenge them to make me a burger that looks ANYTHING like the pictures behind them. Especially Wendys. The meat alone looks like it's half an inch thick in the ads, rather than the wafer thin thing they give you.

/gave up restaraunts this year, only eating what I cook

Hmm, I ordered a Spicy Chicken sandwich the other night and noticed the tomato was very small -- so small that I almost didn't realize it was there. This explains why.

who cares. fast food sux. with or without tomato.

the only good part of this thread is the creepy pic of glacierexpress' eurotrash boy band.

and the fact that tomato has been pluralized as:

tomatos, tomatoes, tomato's

on certain limited specialty sandwiches, hence no shortage. They already put tomato only on a few sandwiches, but I love how the spokeswoman tried to make it sound like the lack of shortage on their part was due to being so much smarter than everyone else.

I'm in Toronto, and I've noticed since last month that Wendy's has actually raised their prices. It used to be 3.99 for a combo 1, now it's 4.29 or something, and the rest of the combos followed suit. The excuse? The neeww combo is the jr bacon cheeseburger combo which is 3.99, bumping everything else up above it.

It has a lot more to do with the crackdown on illegal immigrants. Even conservatives admit this. Tomatoes are rotting on the vine due to a lack of labor access. Ranchers are at a loss, as there's no one to hire anymore.

actually ammend the above to wendys > sonics. Sonics is the worst. Good drinks, but nothing worth eating. Tuscan grilled chicken was good when they had it, but now they are at the bottom.

Go back to economics class.

the shortage makes tomatos cost, say 3 times more than normal. You make them optional rather than standard and hope that 2/3 rds of the customers don't request them. That means you still break even with previous years profits.

Thought of that after I posted it. Wasn't planning on challenging them with a gun. Did like the scene in the movie. Don't condone that behavior, but I do understand it!

I order my Double Cheese w/o tomato anyway. I just wish they wouldn't squash it into a ball.

The Wendy's on campus here is one of very few halfway decent places to eat around campus. I don't like tomatoes, but I care about this shortage because it makes them stingy with their ketchup too. Without ketchup and massive amounts of salt our french fries are bland and tasteless!

Dear God! Won't somebody please think of the ketchup?

What tomato shortage? The local sandwich shop by my work also is rationing them. Every grocery store i've been to in town (Vegas) has plenty of tomatoes. Most of our tomatoes come from Mexico anyway. Speaking of which, La Salsa has lots of pico de gallo at their salsa bar, as much as I want. I don't get it.

/I think that it's a vast right wing conspiracy

man.. i miss wendys burgers.
moved to Sydney about 2 years ago there are NO wendys restaurants in Oz.

luckily i'm going back to New Zealand next month to see family so i'll have to get my fix then.

Tomatoes are now $4 a pound. I am greatly annoyed by this tomato famine.

Buns are round.
Onion slices are round.
Tomatoes are round.
Pickles are round.
Patties SHOULD be round, Dave Thomas was a FREAK, and Wendy's food is nasty as hell.

I have always ordered sandwiches without tomatoes. Sometimes I even get them that way.

I hate tomato; so when I saw the sign I thought I wouldn't have to say "no tomato" but they still put it on there. wtf?

2006-01-13 02:42:58 AM
Ok. Texture is great with foods but taste is better. So hard to get ahold of a tomato that chews like a tomato and tastes like a tomato. Mmm.. ugly tomatoes. [tasty]

This just saved me about 20 seconds each time I go through the drivethru, sweet!
